Happy to spend the morning listening to your podcast! I'm getting ready to go in about three weeks. I'll be in New Brunswick (Miscou) this year but planning Cape Breton next year at attend fiddle workshops at the Gaelic College. 😄 No yarn shops on my trip to NB. I will be knitting stash, fiddling and doing tons of beach walks with Riley including going to get ice cream. I have to tucker Riley out so she can sleep in the cottage while I go knitting at the beach... she is not a beach bum... the husky coat is too thick and there is no shade. Holy crap! You have 935 subscribers now! That is awesome! Those mittens by Ysolda are so pretty! I have been eyeing that Halibut Sweater too... maybe next year. I really want to finish a lot before going to Rhinebeck. What pretty textured socks... love those colours! Vintersol is almost done for me. I am midway through the second sleeve! I'll post a picture soon. Yours is looking great! Saltwater! Ugh. Ok... this weekend I will cast on one. I listed the first project from each book I want to knit. I will bring them out East. I also knit dishcloths for the Airbnb I stay in for the hosts but that is just a few hours on the beach. Salt and Pepper mittens! Great pattern and great idea for presents! My favourite pattern out of those books is the Merry Mittens. Way to go on your brioche cowl! Safe travels and enjoy your visit with your brother! Our heat wave ended recently!

Funny...when I went to New Brunswick, we went to a beach and got ice cream. That's always the trick with dogs...gotta get some energy out of them so we can have some peaceful knitting time lol. Many of the Saltwater patterns are great for travel knitting. I want to do some of the single colour patterns soon. I'm not sure when they will pop up in the list. I guess I will have to keep plugging away.

I, too, love a good bookstore! Last month we travelled to Edmonton and visited the Chapters at West Edmonton Mall where I found Summer Lee's new book, The Sock Project. Great book and worth every penny! I don't know if you know this tip for checking contast with yarns, but we weavers use it all the time. Take a picture in greyscale and you can clearly see the value and contrast of the yarns. The heat and humidity is killing me too. With no AC, I have a permanent "sheen" as well, lol!

I will have to use that method when I am picking out my mitten colours. I want low contrast and it might have worked for a colorwork pattern with bigger colourwork sections but with just the 1x1, it was was just too low contrast. I'm looking forward using that copper with the dark maroon though. I think it will slap!

Color names are often inconsistent and different dye batches have different variations so I just mentally label it as something personal with the brand name and go from there. Even then you really have to be looking at the exact ball directly and not on a screen, preferably in your hand to judge what you plan to do with it because you're automatically taking the weight and feel into account alongside the color and fiber. Sometimes a variation that crops up as just part of the creation process on either your end or the producers end is what makes it click in your head or slots something unexpected into place to help make the project unique. This applies to plain single color balls as much as multi color ones of any mix because of the way it interacts both with the light and how our eyes see it. I specialized in a mix of garter stitch and stockinette with larger projects and making knit bags but I also have health reason to be aware of these differences and how things interact. Trust me a mix of chemical sensitivities and allergy to wool is a right pain in the butt. On the other hand it proves you have to pick certain things out BY HAND to really know what you're working with. I wind up eyeballing a lot of my yarns and freehand working a lot of projects but the premise still applies across the board for the yarn. I am a new sub for you but I'm really enjoying your channel thus far so thank you for posting!

Maybe I should give the yarns with numbered colorways, a flowery name. "Fresh linen" for the neutral and "Stormy sea" for the blue. So glad that you're enjoying my videos!

I totally get you thinking that a halibut sweater would enrich your life. I recently knit the cowl and allthough i can't wear it yet as it's too hot, i love it so so much. Im so close to knitting the sweater and mittens but need to finish some other stuff first. I'll knit them in viking garn alpaca bris and drops air too, they're almost identical yarns. 😃
