I was invaded by a guy once in DS3 named "fire miniboss" who legit made himself into a bossfight with Cheat Engine. His body was basically fire, with rocks swirling around him. Ha used various effects and weapon/spell combos from ingame, and he had an awesome phase 2. The guy was really cool also, he didn't just annihilate me with all stuff he had but kinda proudly showed off what he made. It was legit a minibossfight since he didn't heal or dodge away from my hits. These hackers with creativity are pretty much gone now, and their places were taken by neckbears with dorito dust all over their triple chin.

Imagine invading a lv30 with invincibility cheats, modded stats, impossible enchants, and speed hacks, and *_still_* losing because you're trash at PvP.

The funniest hacker I ever encountered was when I was doing co-ops with a low level Solaire cosplay, and we got invaded by a guy who was simply named “Rat”. When we found him, he was 2-3 feet shorter than your normally supposed to be. He was basically doing stealth invasions in Stormveil but he modified his height to make himself noticeably shorter. It was actually really funny, and he ended up backstabbing the host when he wasn’t looking.

This topic always reminds me of a legendary one hour long invasion by Chase in ds3 against a cheater host supported by a couple of blues. Insane win at the end, but the window licker was so frustrating even Chase was swearing by the end of it.

Most interesting cheater I ever met was in DS3, was on the way with 2 phantoms to fight the rotting tree boss. As we rushed our way to the fogwall, this naked blue-haired dude came floating through the air at us, so we killed him and then went in to kill the boss, shortly after the blue haired dude popped up infront of us, so we killed him -again-, he spawns infront of us again, then kills us with some curse build up attack. Atleast the guy was nice enough to let us down the boss, but that was weirdest encounter with a cheater I've ever had lmao..

I've never encountered a cheater in an FromSoft game thank god but I feel everyone should see the clip of ChaseTheBro purposely parrying an invisible hacker then killing them, or figuring out that he can riposte/back stab a cheater with god mode to death somehow.

Now THIS is proper format. Long-form is the only way. Cheaters need to be thoroughly shamed and the short clips (about cheating) don't have the same direct impact, indirectly coming off ambiguously as a consequence. This is NOT a grey issue, and new players need to know exactly where the community stands on these pivotal issues. More like this please. Thank you for your hard work.

For the second invasion, the fog gate for the Mad Pumpkin head is always active, even if you killed him already. Just step through and head right back out. You'll have to resummon again, but it'll clear the reds. Agheel lake and Stormgate were pretty notorious for cheaters in the early days, I guess some are still there.

Oroboro has a sick DS2 invasion where the host he invades is immune to gravity in Forest of the Giants. Likewise they had infinite health and stamina. He knocked them into the salamander pit you go to after finding a mid game key, so that host effectively ruined their save by being trapped in a pit that they weren't supposed to survive in yet. It's the "my pet hacker" video.

You can create a section where the exploits of these arthropods will be captured, and in the description under the video you can leave nicknames for their Steam accounts, so that viewers would ban them in advance. This way the game will be a little cleaner for the spectators.

I remember (in another game) that I found a cheater that started flying all over the place at the Speed of light. Suddenly another cheater appeared (it was a Battle Royale) and they starded fighting in middair as if they were jotaro and dio. The game was, in fact, jojo themed

I remember the times where I use gravity (my greatest ally and enemy as a veteran) against cheaters; I remember one time where one such individual who died from said gravity immediately spammed one toxic message after another (around twenty or so consecutively) and even sent threats-like anyone who knew their worth in salt I sent a gif of the dancing lizard meme

Reminds me of the time I was helping a buddy of mine in liurnia during our first playthrough. We were going to fight the Nights Calvalry that drops the ice spear Ash of war. An Invader had shown up on my friends 3rd attempt. (He didn't level vigor and kept getting 1 shot.) The Invader was a cheater with like 3k HP despite Us being level 25 or so, and I did like 5 damage per strike, per sword. (Dual wielding straight swords.) . He did more damage than reasonable as well. Almost 1 shotting me with a single light attack a few times despite it being a pike. He also had a shield. I fought the dude for literally 30 minutes 1v1 while my buddy watched for a bit until eventually deciding to solo the nights Cavalry. I just kept having to dodge. I'm not that good at the game so this just goes to show how much this guy sucked. I would love to claim I beat him... But I didn't. The moment I wittled him down to 1 quarter of his max HP and seemingly removing all his flask uses. A bolt of lightning came down from the sky despite him not using a miracle or anything. 1 shotting not only me through a roll. But my buddy who was literally 1 quarter of the map away from us.

This immediately got a subscription, I'm so glad there are people who understand the unspoken rules that we've all developed respect for since Dark Souls

got invaded by a player called "Cinderella" once, whos cheat was specifically to overload the game i think. had a rapidly casted spell with so many particle effects, my computer bluescreened

I've encountered some people using invincibility cheats which always sucks. But I always love it when a hacker invades and they have used cheat engine to make themselves into a mini boss fight and they then roleplay a mini boss and its absolutely possible to defeat them. There have been some AMAZING ones out there. Also while active cheating ruins the game for everyone, small passive cheats (duplicating weapon grease or whatever) I don't have a problem with. Because that has a very different intent behind it. When I see someone who has cheated in more items it tells me "This person doesn't have the time/doesn't want to grind" not "this player is going out of their way to ruin the fun of others."

My first interaction with a hacker perma killed my 1st playthrough by changing my respawn point over a death pit. I made it all the way to the giants flame boss fight and i had to start up my playthrough again

First week of release, I encountered some fuck that drank a couple flasks and: gave himself invincibility, gave himself all status immunities, gave me and my party member full stacks of everything all at once, and made us explode like bombs. I quit playing online.

it's always some chinese players (not racist just happens way too often) you should've seen "% ner" he was a chinese gaymer who was flexing modded ashes of war into impossible weapons such as sword dance on lances he got exposed and processed to delete every video of his channel (all in console btw i suspect savewizard or any other save editing tool)

I mean... 2 cheaters here, a few in Steel's videos, a lot of people using physyk glitch ( which might as well be a cheat, since it just... disables the non phys damage builds ), constant mechanic absue, taunter's tongue abuse and other things. 1% of the community using cheats might be correct, but... at least 20% are shitters doing other dubious stuff. I personally only encountered 1 cheater in this game, but i could not kill them. Dungeon environment, gank and a lag switch or something similar. EAC is dog, and it does not help. Yet again: why tf did this game win GOTY??

I have encountered only two cheaters in the almost 800 hours I have played darksouls.. And both times, they were players who initially weren't cheating, but turned on the cheats due to being pissed off at me.. Here are my stories. First, for some context, I do not PvP, I absolutely hate it except on very specific occasions, so whenever I'm invaded, I will do three things. First, I will immediately stop moving and wait for the invader to reach me. Then, I will turn to them and attempt to use a white soapstone, doing the "Can't use item" shrug as a personal expression of basically saying "What do you want me to do about it?", and then, alt+F4, mid-shrug. Now.. The first time I encountered a cheater, was when I was being repeatedly invaded in sen's fortress during my "Blood Hunter" build. The dude just wasn't getting the hint. He'd run up on me full speed with a darkmoon blade enchanted weapon, and I'd completely ignore him right up till he reached me, and poof out.. Well, I guess he must've taken it personally, because the dude activated some serious cheats. The millisecond he invaded, he instantly teleported exactly to my location, already in the middle of the animation for wrath of the gods, which dealt seemingly infinite damage, instantly killing me. The second time I encountered a cheater, was during my "Forest Hunter" covenant run, so I was summoned as an invader to deal with this guy.. He was using the shamefully skill-less giant-dad meta, with the fire zweihander, and I had.. A +5 Mail Breaker.. I kind of assumed I wasn't going to make it out of there alive, but when I realized zweihanders and trees REALLY didn't mix, I quickly adapted a strategy of just repeatedly baiting him to swing into a tree, and backstabbing him whilst his blade bounced back, and actually killed him! .. I then invaded him again, and he then turned on some cheats, and/or an exploit, I'm not sure if it counts as one or the other.. Either way, he was now suddenly fast-rolling in his giant-dad armor, and swinging his zweihander one-handed with longsword animations. I actually got him down to half health still because this guys whole life strategy was just "Run forward and attack", but I got sloppy and he nabbed me. To this day, that memory stays in my treasure vault, as the time I killed a giant dad with a friggen mail breaker, and he got so salty, he had to crank up the cheats just to defeat me. The shamelessness of his actions really helped take the sting out of that defeat.

There's apparently a guy here on youtube who brags about cheating and getting people banned in souls games. They claim it's a way to protest against FromSoft safety policies, and worse he's got a bunch of orbiters who actually believe it and applaud them, fucking surreal.

In DS1 the problem was solved with Wulf's Dark Souls Connectivity Mod. Not only did it flash a warning and let you toss out any cheaters, it also increased the number of available connections and made it way faster. Modders made more improvements than the remaster ever did

When I was a kid I played Dark Souls 2 and was very bad at it so I used cheat engine for infinite health. But one time somebody invaded me. Not to destroy that person day, I have jumped to my end.

What magic did in this video is like a roided out bodybuilder going up to a middle schooler wanting a fight. Then proceed to fight said middle schooler barley even able to do anything to him and as soon as another middle schooler shows up the bodybuilder runs away you can’t write this stuff.

Sadly even with the anti cheat we get cheaters on consoles regularly. My worst one was a guy who with 1 throwing knife instantly killed my friend then light attacked with a parry dagger from a long distance and gave me death blight. I was level 570. The others are hacked weapons like one shot light hits, infinite death blight lightning, and my favorite hated thing throwing pot that causes a nuke of 100,000 hp damage for the whole area.

The encounter with the 2nd cheater felt like a newbie superhero meeting the head honcho supervillain on their first mission, panicking and then getting a surprising victory by outsmarting them in the last second .. that was quite dramatic (also, gravity is still the ultimate boss in the game, not even cheaters can defeat it) XD

There was one time back in DS3 I was putting down my white summon sign and when I got summoned the summoner immediately did some sort of wide area buff spell I didn't recognize. Then after a bit of chaotic mele where I wound up separated from the others with one of the invaders, I messed up took a fatal hit, and realized that no my life bar didn't drop nearly enough and it was refilling. Realizing that the player who'd summoned me had used some sort of cheat upgraded buff, I used the most 'sorry' emote I had and logged out of the world.

I'll be honest. I used a save editor for DS1 on a single character. I was full dragon form with unlimited stamina and that was it. I'd only get summoned for PvE and I'd only attack once before staying back for the host to fight. Same if we got invaded. However if we got invaded by a unlimited health cheater. I'd infinit stun lock them off a cliff. Was to much fun getting hate mail from them calling me the cheater.

I mean it makes sense, the arena calls to most of the honorable sort, and the game is so one sided against invaders due to it being opt in and its open world nature meaning the invaded have all the power. it really droughts the number of honest invaders.

Id like to share a story from my time in ds3 Standard infinite health cheater, used the crow quill weapon(foreshadowing to those who know that weapon) invaded me at the famous area after pontiff Sullivans bossfight. I first tried bleed but no avail and the sword did lotsa dmg and stuff so instead i played long game, and then i remembered what we all should remember when we see a infinite health cheater. Theres no way of surviving a cliff. Luckily for me, he was using crow quills which has a weird leaping knife throw. It took a bit of coercion but it did in fact happen. L2ed right off the edge. I say this to hammer home the lesson that ranni pulled off in the video Falling is the deadliest weapon u have.

First time I've seen your stuff, but I found it entertaining, so I'll write one of my very long comments. I'm 49 and have been gaming pretty much since computers have existed. Ever since online games started to appear... MMOs, and then of course later Souls-likes and the such, there have been cheaters. Going back to the early days of games like "Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands", "Meridian 59", "The Realm", "Ultima Online" or even paid MUDs, it was pretty obvious that the people running these things didn't care about cheating, especially in PVP. The bottom line was simply that to do anything about it would require active policing, and as Oracles and GMs used to say all the time in UO "We're professional programmers, not baby sitters". They would make it clear they had no desire to police the game at all, and also rather arrogantly proclaimed in every generation right up to present day, that their games are hacker or cheater proof, and if they aren't, other then forced action when they stand to lose large amounts of money, they act like enduring cheating is just part of the game. One thing you have to remember is that much like the situation in "World Of Warcraft" they would on average rather see the entire game burn down than actually police the game or enforce any kind of balance typically. If the game is making money they just see that as reinforcement that they need to do nothing. At any rate refusal to police cheating is why I so rarely play games with forced PVP, or ignore the PVP aspects of MMOs as much as possible. One thing I will tip you off to though is that things like "Easy Anti-Cheat" and similar canned safeguards oftentimes fail is not just the simple problem that any static measure can be overcome with time, but also that they tend to only cover the most ham fisted methods of cheating. Whether it's MMOs or Souls Likes, most of the skilled cheaters don't generally edit stats, they edit scripts. See one thing to understand about computers is that they are incapable of randomness, anything that has a "chance" of happening refers to a long sequence of numbers referred to as a script to see if it happens or not. Most scripts are considered "fair" if the whole thing runs it's course again and again, but there are ways of resetting it, overriding it, or tricking the computer into running your script as opposed to the one the game relies on while thinking it is doing so. What this means is that in any game with a damage variable, like say a critical hit chance, the hacker sets the scripts so they are treated as their opponent always failing to crit and doing minimal damage against maximized defenses, while every one of their attacks crits and does maximum damage. In games that don't show you other player's numbers it's a big part of how a player seems to have an unreasonably large health bar, or to be good at everything, it's the "RNG" being cheated to favor them in the most extreme way at any time. If someone actually looks at this it can seem legit on a cursory examination, and if nothing else they can say "oh, I just got lucky" and it can be pointed out that they didn't alter their stats. This doesn't apply to those Elden Ring stories, but it is one of the most common ways of cheating, even if developers deny it (so the don't have to try and figure out how to stop it), it's especially common in MMORPG PVP where you only have so many stats to work with and nobody can be good at everything. In say SWTOR or ESO it's a big part of how some guy can seemingly have impenetrable defenses, while still putting out massive offense, when anyone with a trivial amount of game knowledge knows that one has to come at the expense of the other, and if someone DID figure out how to do it, it would thus be an exploit against the nature of the game and would need to be corrected for that reason if no other. Either way, while this was interesting, it's one of the big reasons why I stopped doing Souls-like games early on, as I just felt it wasn't worth the headache to play them, and I decided a long time ago the only time I will support such games or ones with serious PVP aspects at all, is if the company is dedicated to ACTIVE policing and rule enforcement, and not relying entirely on hardwired systems to ensure honesty. If people aren't in the loop and policing it (very unlikely to ever happen) it's never going to work as if nothing else it takes a certain amount of subjective analysis of what's going on to actually catch cheaters, and right now computers are just not capable of it.

There was one time I was at Iron Keep in DS2, and I got invaded by someone who was essentially vomiting acid urns at me and using a dagger with curse buildup.

i have taken to calling the types of cheaters who help others or don't really fuck with the player maliciously and sometimes just do really cool stuff as wizards in the past year or so and it generally feels fitting

The worst thing about cheaters is their attitude towards it. I've helped companies infiltrait cheater discords/message boards. And like 99% of the users think they are entitled to cheating and get absolutely furious when they are banned threatening to sue. Also, I hate to point out this , but those hackers you applauded are the guys writing the cheats. Sure, they can do some cool shit. And one ore two keep it all to themselves, but writing cheats makes a ton of money. So 99% of the time, they are just as much a part of the problem as the script kiddies.

Recently I invaded a host and phantom in liurnia. It was my first invasion with a new build I had created. They were camping on the roof were the afk farmers used to hide but they were actively shooting with Greatbows. I now how to get up there but they could just shoot be down or cast frost mist. I switched to a different character that had Greatbows and is basically a higher level version of my main build. I wasn't able to bow them down but I got them by using the radahn sword ash, pulling them both down. They HATED the fact that I messed up their shitty plan and instantly equipped ps spears. Unfortunately I died shortly after. Then I invaded again, they were in the same spot again. My trick didn't work this time but at some point they went down to kill my co-invader. The host chainsawed him and I almost killed his phantom but then he got me too with the chainsaw. That wasn't too bad tho because now I could chainsaw him back (I only chainsaw against glitchers). When I invaded yet again I was thinking to myself how it wouldn't surprise me if the host used cheat engine on me and right after that he actually teleported behind be, killed me with the instant deathblight throwing knife and did that spell to crash my game. I quickly disconnected and fortunately my save wasn't corrupted. That person was the worst kind of player I have encountered after 870 hours of playtime. There was only one other case before when a host used cheat engine to teleport before I quit. I got my character send to ng+ two times in Ds3 during fightclubs so I don't mess around with that stuff.

It is good you are brave against the cheaters in Elden ring. I have encountered a cheater or two myself during my invasions (mainly to get more rune arcs to stock up so I won’t have to worry about it too much). I was looking for hosts, but as usual, there are mostly gankers, and sorcerey spammers, and I’m not gonna lie. Gankers are technically cheaters especially when they used high damaging spells all at once plus bleed. I don’t use sorcery builds because I’m more of a melee person. I did found one cheater that has somehow invulnerability even to bleed last night by infinite health cheat. I always drink physik with the twig effect so I won’t lose my runes. If I do, I need to be out of that invasion, or if possible, head to a closest grace possible if I can and survive til then at least because losing all those runes earned at an unreachable place is a big bummer.

Most of the cheaters in old souls games weren't just doing it for griefing either, the real sad reality was that they were often casuals who were so deeply terrified of invasions they immediately turned on infinite health. Then when they were unkillable, they'd get all brave and endlessly hunt down the invader across the map. It's like if you don't want the pvp then, then why didn't you just go to the boss fog or play offline? Just annoying what cowardice it showed that they only wanted to fight when they were literally invincible.

After Ds3, I simply can't stomach this anymore. I'm glad I didn't even try to stay in the pvp of this game since it's suffering from the same problem it's predecessor had.

Fun thing i encountered that magic cheater before. I did the most sensible thing. I used fires deadly sin and bloodflame blade to melt his health.

I have remembered thanks to this video the time I had the bad luck to invade someone in DS3 at Irithyll Catherdal, where my character got his head covered by some kind of drakness/humanity thinglike, and then I couldnt move, being slowly but permanently plunged into the air and losing some hp, while a message appeared on the screen "humanity stolen!", then just died after agonic minutes.
