Today I check out the RPCS3 emulator. Amazingly, this enables PS3 games to be played on a PC - feat not thought possible for many years thanks to the PlayStation 3’s unique architecture. I test the performance of The Last of Us, Uncharted 3, Gran Turismo 6, Resistance 2 and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift.

I remember the first time I fired up RPCS3 and it was barely able to boot a game and the game would run at like 15fps, now here we are today with thousands of PS3 titles fully playable at 60fps in 4k... Simply amazing! The state of Emulation as a whole is just mind blowing.

I just tried the latest release, got an error on the ISO. Went down the rabbit hole on isotools and completely failed to get it running after over an hour. Got Xenia running right away but the video artifacts made both of the games I tried completely unplayable. I am pretty bummed out, been using emulators since the late 90's and this is first time I couldn't get one working.

@@TheWarmotor RPCS3 needs the games in folder format not ISO.

@@knifeknerdreviews4609 I mounted the .iso in windows and pointed the emulator at the mounted disc. I'd read that it would work, but the emulator would just say that it was corrupted every time. I'll try to copy the files to the SSD, maybe it doesn't like it if it's read-only? I don't know. Didn't matter which ISO or where I downloaded it from, reported corrupted every time.

@@TheWarmotortry to unpack the iso and put it's file on a folder try it now it should work

The fact that emulation works as well as it does considering that the cell processor is very hard to interpret to any other hardware; even PlayStation has completely given up on PS3 emulation on a PS5! Also, keep in mind that allot of these games, EVEN ON A PS3, would run far below 30fps frequently

12:32 boosting resolution, anti-aliasing and fps unlock are probably my favorite features of emulation, besides you know, game preservation! But I get the appeal of wanting to play the game in it's original form.

Hey, I was able to complete Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 on a non-AVX512 processor, so that's pretty cool. Also, Killzone 2 and 3 are playable at 60FPS and those games look incredible even today.

Emulation for all consoles is amazing, you essentially have access to an HD remaster of a game once the emulation features are available without having to hope and wait for a remaster from a studio.

The PS3 came out in like 2005, that means it's about 20 years old, in 2005 the NES and SNES were about that old and considered retro. Tiiiiiiiime baby time

The PS3 came out in 2006 in the US and Japan, 2007 in Australia and Europe

@@jimmymyers I don't know why ppl simply can't just do a quick google check before making a small statement. He was probably thinking about the 360 which came out late 2005.

I have i5 10400f and 3060ti however i havent beefed my ram from 16gb yet so titles like Midnight Club LA barely run and inFamous is between 25-30 fps but almost every other game runs like butter. Aside from the fact that its literally a PS3 emulator, you can update games with Rusty-PSN, download patches for 60fps, set higher resolutions, map out any input device, it emulates PSN with online play in certain games. RPCS3 is fucking insane, I had a PS2 and upgraded to 360 as a kid so the PS3 as a whole was so foreign to me but I wanted to play Sly trilogy in HD, Sly4, inFamous, LBP, Uncharted, and more and with this emulator i feel like I can peek my head through time and enjoy these classics without tracking down a ps3 and copies of the game. I got banned from their discord within minutes for telling people about Vimm's Lair and ROMSDEPOT

Stumbled onto your channel. THANK YOU for walking me through how to use the compatibility list and adjust settings in the emulator. I have been wanting to play MotorStorm for a couple of years now but couldn't figure out what was making it white out the screen in game. I just finished two races at 1080 p with zero issues.

I’m able to run games at full speed with Mac’s new M series chips. Only one I haven’t tried is the original M1, but M2 and M3 Macs can run RPCS3 with little issue

@@wvxl what kinda games do you like? I haven’t tried anything like god of war 3 or red dead redemption as I’m fairly certain those huge budget AAA games can’t run on M chips yet

@@pipgaming3410 I like 6 more, it's got higher vehicle count. It's always like that, first game on the console is introducing new tech, the 2nd game on the console adds more content.

Im on a Lenovo Legion 5 3060 Ryzen 5800U and can run Demons Souls at stable 60 FPS with CPU overclock disabled, so it's running like a native PC game from that era. Looks the part too with high res UI patches. Drakengard 3 is mostly 60FPS with certain areas having frame drops, overall it's still excellent. MGS4 needs heavy patching and even then FPS jumps around, 40-60FPS, sometimes into the 30s even.

Awesome that some of these games play great. Call me spoiled but games at less than 20 FPS are just unaccepted to me.

Knowing how big an issue the YLOD is on the fat model PS3s, I hope the patent on them will be expiring soon! A PS3 clone system would be great! I wouldn’t mind if RPCS3 and PCSX2 did most of the heavy lifting, as long as both emulators have progressed enough by then and the system plays physical discs, even playing DVDs and Blu Rays, I’d be a happy man!

RPCS3 can launch the PS3 interface now. Make a clone out of PC parts that is just as equal in power to the PS3, might be able to get a little more power out of it then a regular PS3, and use it strictly for PS3. I would love a clone in the future running on an actually PC case and just have someone make a Linux distro out of the PS3 interface, kinda like Lakka, but have it be the actually PS3 interface. of course right now that would be too expensive, but 10 years from now it might be feasible

You need it in folder format! You should be able to mount it on windows, or Linux, and just make a folder, and transfer the folders, copy and paste, in that mounted iso to that folder and play the games that way. you won't be able to move the folders, because mounted isos won't allow it
