I loved RDJ, don't get me wrong, but I am not hyped about his casting as Dr Doom. The fact that he looks like Tony Stark, whether a variant of Tony or actual Victor Von Doom proper , it's going to distract. It should've been a new actor. I would've been more hyped for Mads Mikelson or Cilian Murphy. Smh
@@BasketCase-rr7txExcept he couldn't shut up about The Bear for awhile or that other FX show Dave a few years back, so that's not necessarily true. It's just weird he's never watched Stranger Things.
It’s not that crazy. IMO, Stranger Things is maybe the most overrated show of our generation. Someone probably told him it wasn’t that great so he never bothered.
No Way Home, Guardians 3, Shang Chi, Deadpool 3, and Wakanda Forever in that order for the movies I thought were genuinely good. The rest were whatever to me
Wakanda Forever was shockingly good, given the cirumstances IMO. I credit that mainly to Ryan Coogler. Not recasting T'Challa was the wrong choice IMO, and the rumors that Shuri being the Black Panther just didn't feel right for that character. But damn it if they didn't make a great movie regardless of those dumb choices (IMO).
I'm glad people are excited. I just think it's a really bad casting choice, flat-out. I don't think RDJ is right for Doom, let alone the fact that he is already one of the most recognizable faces in the MCU. I'm gonna reserve my real judgement for the movie, because maybe they'll figure out how to make it work. But just reacting to the casting, I think it was a super bad call. But I am excited for all the movies coming nonetheless! I really dig the slate, and will be curious if they add anything or just keep it this lean.
Marvel botched the multiverse so bad that they just need to get away from it as soon as they can. I hope that after Secret Wars, that they can just do more grounded storytelling.
I don’t think the MCU is necessarily done with Kang, I imagine it’s absolutely on the back burner at the moment though. It’s absolutely possible they recast the role sometime in the future and handwave the change as just a different variant that wiped out all the previously seen Kangs off screen. While cheap feeling, if the new actor and whatever story they try and do goes over better then the previous attempt, I can see most audience members just shrugging and going along with it because if it’s working then irs better then whatever mess was going on previously. This isn’t me saying all this is guaranteed to happen, just that I don’t think we can totally say “they’ll never touch Kang again”. Just suggesting they may drop it for now, come at it with a more focused direction and idea of what worked and didn’t work last time and reintroduce him down the road
I’m so with Tim on this, if you look at everything past endgame and actually look at what was good and bad, the proportion is very similar to phase 1-3. Unfortunately the internet has very short memories and there’s such a delusion that phase 1-3 was perfect
The biggest problem is the Disney+ shows IMO. Instead of just dropping 1 day and people kind of get over it, if a show is mid/mediocre, then it's 6 weeks of people talking about it being mid. So when we had like 3-4 shows and 3 movies in a year, it felt like year round content, and when like half of that is mediocre shows, it makes it feel like the MCU's vast majority is mediocre because the shows stay in the conversation longer.
@@TopCheeseBarDown I get that and they definitely over did it with how much they were releasing. But even then like the shows still have a lot of good things and at the very least they were enjoyable ranging up to great with wandavision and Loki. Also I’m sure there was pressure from higher ups to fill up Disney plus with as much marvel as possible so I think they did a pretty good job in that regard.
I had that thought too and it gave me chills. like Spidey is battling doom for his life. the mask falls off, he sees RDJs face "M-Mr. Stark?" and he hesitates, just long enough for doom to stab him in the gut or whatever
I am VERY concerned with RDJ being casted as Doom. As Tim said Secret wars is one of the best comic events ever and Victor Von Doom is the main character which is predicated on his relationship with Reed, Sue and Valeria. I pray they do not diminish this with a rememberberry Downey Junior play. On the note of “it will be cool seeing the heroes react to evil Iron man” I fundamentally am against this, no ones should see Dooms face and if they do it should be unrecognisable. I hope I’m wrong and he’s just Doom please.
@@M53747 I think that the face reveal should ONLY happen when: 1. Doom is Defeated 2. The 616 Universe is restored 3. Victor and Reed finally settled. Only a VERY FEW members of the Avengers should get to see Doom's face. Pretty much Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Namor and Captain America (Characters that Doom respects)
@@aquapyro1 I just do not see that happening. I’m so worried that they’re going to find an old picture of Doom and Spidey goes “oh it can’t be” and the 3rd act is them trying to appeal to his humanity or some shit lol. The MCU has earned the benefit of the doubt but I would have been way more jazzed if Cillian was casted tbh
I totally get what you're saying. Ironically, you reacting to words on a screen was one of the best reactions I saw about the comic con news. Every other video I saw that reacted to the video of RDJ felt fake. Like they clearly only chose to make a video after finding out the news. There was something so genuine and old school about your reaction.
You're close, Andy. And part of the difficulty, Andy, is that RDJ's actual voice is very different than a lot of his characters. He also often parodies his dad's NY accent in public.
While I don't necessarily agree with all your guys' takes, I definitely appreciate your guys' willingness to go a bit deeper and really take a look at the franchise as whole, and assess everything since Endgame. While obviously they're in a bit of a "rut", i appreciate you guys acknowledging that hey... it's really not *that* bad, considering what the MCU had done in the past. Even in the heights of the Infinity Saga, we had some definite lows. The only difference now is the volume of projects being released. And as for the RDJ casting as Doom, Nick definitely articulated how I personally feel: "You can hate it. You can love it. But the one thing that you can't say, is that it's not interesting. It's got my curisoity."...... No matter how you slice it, THAT is true. Marvel JUST dropped one of their biggest movies in years; made all the money so far, provided the fan-service, all of that.... And NOBODY is talking about it anymore. Because Marvel decided to drop a bomb about ANOTHER one of their movies that doesn't drop for 2 years. It's kinda genius when you think about it lol.
There was literally a comic storyline about Doom swapping bodies with Tony Stark, you’re an idiot if you think they brought back RDJ to be the actual Doom. They’re fucking with you, he’s almost certainly an alternate universe Doom who swapped his mind with Tony Starks and we’ll be introduced to the real Doom. Love how people are just so ready to be mad at Marvel that they’ll just use anything to be mad. I do understand some of the worries or skepticism with the announcement, but that’s not the same thing as just blindly getting mad when we know absolutely nothing right now
I’m really interested to see how Cap 4 and Thunderbolts do at the box office. There’s been some major hits post endgame but those were sequels with reoccurring stars.
Ive noticed others mentioning it too-I would have loved to see a review of the Alien movies. While I understand that the MCU content is popular and draws a lot of views, it would have been really cool to cover the Alien series as well.
andy, one time i asked someone at disney for a parks drone show and they told me that they send out a couple of test drones to check for wind and to calibrate everything. that night the drone show ended up getting delayed a couple of hours because of the wind.
I love tim is just a normal fan of movie and comics because you see him be stuff a little wrong about stuff (talking about the secret wars segment 😂😂😂) but he gets like 70% right. Everyone does this but you can see he just loves this shit.
56:22 not sure if true but I think Harrison Ford said on stage at comic con if he was told to grow a moustache then he would have for the movie, but that’s from a couple tweets I saw online and didn’t look further into.
I would love that Fantastic Four plot ends up being half a movie where they're dealing with Galactus and Reed Richards decides to solve the Galactus Problem by placing him in another Universe because of his new discovery of Multiverse and then the 616 sacred timeline has to now deal with Galactus as a threat causing the Fantastic Four and Victor Von Doom to have to enter the sacred timeline
I get the hesitation (and maybe desperation) for casting RDJ as Doom, but I'm just gonna say: let them cook. We got the Russos and McFeely on the case.
One thing Marvel are consistently good at is subverting fan expectations and pulling it off, I’ve got complete faith. The DCEU repeatedly did what fans wanted and pretty much cast characters based on what fans wanted and it did not work
Nah. I think, both DC & Marvel MCU did some shity stuff and has to be call out for it. No need for subvert expectations. If DCEU repeatedly did what fans wanted we would've gotten more Cavill's Superman sequels by now. Not keep teasing the Man of steel cameos only and WB Studio boot out Henry Cavill for a new Superman, anyway. So no, DC fans didn't get what we wanted including more Zack Snyder's JL sequels. DC fans just got a new reboot that fans didn't ask for. For now, we just have to wait and see, what happens for both universes, the good, the bad and the ugly that comes along with them both in my opinion. Lol.
I first got exposed to Dr. Doom and really have such fond feelings of him as a villain from the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 games. The two games blend together so I don’t know which one he’s in but I just have really fond nostalgic memories of him.
I’ve missed screencast stuff a lot! Video Games have had very little news lately comparatively. Has KF been watching HOTD? I need to hear everyone’s thoughts!
@CoNiCuZn I guess so- though see if they made good movies before he comes in and makes an impact. They have changed their philosophy I think- which is great. Too many mediocre movies leading nowhere IMO
the biggest vote of confidence that I have for Doom being right and taking Iron Man's end seriously is the Russo brothers. They know what they did in endgame to end Tony, they know what it means, they can do it again
isnt armor wars kinda half done? it was supposed to be a D+ show but then they were going to reformat it into a movie. I dont know if they actually did additional photography for the new movie, but that is the only project we know is kinda "out there" yet in some way being worked on. the other talked about projects or rumored projects are still in planning and havent shot anything yet
Ok, sorry, but I have to clarify because Nick isn't the only one to say this recently. BHCIII isn't PG-13 and it isn't really kid-friendly either, despite largely taking place at a theme park. It's very much an R, as it's got quite a bit of foul language and bloody violence. The problem wasn't going kid-friendly, it's the fact Eddie only did it for a paycheck. He's not nearly as energetic or charismatic as he was in the first two and with a very "meh" script backing it, it was a recipe for disaster. It's a film where anybody could have played the role of Axel, when he was irreplaceable in the first two.
1:02:48 think the asterisk is gonna be that they are also gonna be called the dark avengers and tie into Doomsday while the real avengers will be brought in for secret wars
So hopeful and excited for the future of the MCU. While the journey so far isn’t perfect, the infinity saga wasn’t perfect either. I have total faith in the refocus of the MCU and couldn’t agree more that they are truly setting us up for something truly special. Love all the work you guys do!
Best theory on thunderbolts I’ve seen: Zemo makes a team called thunderbolts and pretends to be heros like in the comics then Val assembles this team in secret to discover what zemo is really up to. After this team beats zemos team team they take the name thunderbolts.
It’s gonna start with Back in Black by AC/DC but it’s Dr. Victor Von Doom instead of Tony Stark. He gets bombed, it’s all the same as Iron Man 1, but instead of Yinsen, it’s the same actor who plays Yinsen as a master of mystic arts. Instead of an injury to just Tony’s heart it’s an injury to more of his body as well. He uses mystic arts to keep his heartbeat going, and uses technology to create the suit. The suit ends up melting to his body and he becomes Doctor Doom.
Hear me out. Claus Bang. He just tries on an American accent, grows a mustache and I’m sure he can just gray out for the role lol. He just has that like stern face and older but not extremely old.
The doom part of the convo got me hype AF. Reboot after secret wars makes sense...but the comment about actors dying...Fk I hope I don't get Final Destinationed before Secret Wars LOL.
RDJ will not only be the villian of the next avengers movies, but Loki could be the one to take him down. Me personally I love the sorta stories where characters are outside there typically associated archetypes (Flashpoint best comic event over secret wars come at me), I being SKEPTICAL, but saying marvels on fire for the last five years then screaming out them for trying to out the fire out(admittedly a cash grab, it will work) but all the freak out over Doom is so stupid, RDJ is gonna kick ass for two movies, then someone else will take over after secret wars.
I think BNW and Thunderbolts are both clearly set up movies for what's coming next and in that way I think they're really interesting. On top of that they both have potential to be really good. Thunderbolts in particular interests me since Marvel hasnt really had their anti-hero team, or villains that do good deeds team. It would have been nice if they happened a bit sooner though. That said Secret Wars could be an entire phase of movie to itself and if they wrap it up in a single movie I'm going to be really bummed out.
Also, doesnt the hall fill up everytime? Even if I'm at comic con, theres no guarantee I'm going to get in right? Not sure what they'd be losing other then, just not wanting to deal with the technical side of things, but doesnt he con already have that covered for each hall?
OK... I can't let this slide anymore as a movie buff...NICK.. Beverly Hills Cop 3 was NOT PG-13 LOL. It has lots of Murphy F-bombs, it was just a bad story and direction. Murphy didn't go family mode till late 90's...Vampire in Brooklyn anyone? Metro? very R rated mid 90's movies. Hearing you say this for weeks finally made me snap and I gotta call you out bro lol.
I wish people would let the story play out before shitting on it. I get that the RDJ thing is weird and probs a little desperate but let’s wait and see
The MCU doesn’t need star power it needs quality Writing, acting, cinematography not names for names sake. I love Harrison ford he’s unapologetically himself and it ironically fits every roll but he is the wrong choice. The only reason RDJ might be an okay choice is cuz they might be doing a Doom multiverse war. The cultural importance of characters matters some times and I think it matters for Doom the same way it matters for Magneto. I hope RDJ isn’t going to be the MAIN Doom. I might be fatigued by the MCU but I really want it to succeed. It’s feeling like a lot of cash grabby moves happening.
@@georgehenry0161 Yeah but it was clear those specific Kang’s they showed were supposed to be a big threat. Not something to be dealt with offscreen. That’s what I mean by it wasn’t in a satisfying way.
I bet Tony was 616’s anchor being, and his death would be the cause of the 616 universe being involved in an incursion at the end of Doomsday or some time around that.
Its not that Captain America and Thunderbolts didnt get out, its that probably no one fuckin cared to record that. One is an extended trailer for something we've seen and the other is a movie right now no one cares about.
56:49 - I agree that Harrison ford may have been a little too old and miscast in the role. I think I probably would have replaced William Hurt with one of his contemporaries, such as Ed Harris or Gary Oldman. Ford is about 10 years older than Hurt would be today.
regardless of how the comics work or how iron man fits with doom, I agree with Andy that they need to right the ship. They kinda dug a hole and screwed up the whole Kang thing and had a relatively unknown actor (majors) be received poorly overall in Loki and the he got himself fired for the legal issues. They needed a know liked trusted actor to steer and land the proverbial ship
What I’m worried about is, having rdj play doom means he probably won’t be called victor von doom and he will probably just be a variant of tony stark iron man who gains powers and is doom in visuals only but still iron man. And his suit will probably be half iron man suit and half doom suit and they will call him tony throughout the movie and not doom
Purely from an acting perspective, I think RDJ could absolutely nail the Victor von Doom character. It’s just a matter of whether or not they’re actually going to have him play Doom or if they try and connect him to Iron Man. I’d love if they fully commit to him being a totally new character with a distinctive performance that has zero connection to Tony.
