I'll share the same comments I posted on Rob's review of this piece. First...usually I'm buying pieces after seeing your videos, however this piece I already own! I purchased from Gnomon which is the 23J1 version (currently in-stock). After trading my anthracite dialed OP39 for a Datejust I immediately missed the dial color. I looked at numerous watches but a) didn't want to spend thousands of dollars and b) the Halios grey dial was the only alternative I liked but I already owned a gen 1. So, I started searching Seiko sites and was thrilled to see this piece. I own the PADI and Darth Ninja turtles but just had to have this anthracite dialed version. It's a true beauty! Wishing you and your family a wonderful Memorial Weekend celebration!
Just got this from Panama , Seiko Boutique shop. with metal bracelet. Beautiful. Best thing is the day is in Spanish only which I find it very cool. Update: love it to bits. Alignment is perfect, maybe luck. Runs a bit slower, -12 seconds/10 days. It is extremely versatile. It works with any strap or bracelet I throw at it. A Champ, probably the best choice from the Turtle range if you only have to buy just one of them.
Thanks for the heads up Bruce, I have the Save The Ocean version but I love a grey dial and didn't know about this one. Just snagged one for 350 USD New
I'm hesitating between this Grey and a Dark Manta Ray... I think, this is more wearable in "real-life" situations, such as office, outdoor, travelling...
Ha! Finally a review of this watch. Been in the market for a long time trying to find a turtle. Was close to pulling the trigger on the Padi but didn't gel with it in person. Found this version randomly searching Amazon one night and scooped it up for a little under 300 bucks. Was really impressed with the dial and also suprised that there was so little information available regarding this model. Big minus for me is against the 44mm size of turtles in general but it hides it well with the short length and lugs.
I have always wanted a "beater" Turtle and I came across this just today and I immediately fell for it. I couldn't put a finger on it at the time but then I realised that it has circular indices compare to the standard square that always made the original Willard look a little "off" for me. Might take another browse through the other shops to see if they have lowered than the $300 I was quoted then take the plunge (pun intended! :p)
I purchased the same watch recently, And about the chapter ring... @ 12 o'clock the alignment is perfect; BUT, it's misaligned @ 6 o'clock.... By checking the distances between chapter ring markers and lume pips at 4 and 8 o'clock, I realised that the chapter ring is actually slightly off-centre
Nice Dial..its easier for me to deal with my turtles not lining up than my Samurai crown not being centered with crown guard. Love Seiko divers but they do piss me off
Rob, I put one of mine in an SKX case with single dome sapphire crystal and added a sapphire Lumed bezel insert. One of my favorites now, it’s a poor mans SLA017. Purchased another used to keep as stock Turtle.
Bruce, love your channel. I just posted a quick video on the new 2019 omega seamaster planet ocean deep black Casamigos. I am by no means a youtuber lol but I did want you to check out the 2 min video. Only 80 released in the world and I lucked into one bahahaha 😊👍🏾. IJust happen to be at the north park mall in Dallas at the right time. Cheer mate!
Last november I ran into a SLA033 in a store. Nice watch but not $4000 nice. Why can't Seiko do a regular Turtle with a gray sunburst dial like on the SLA017? Or do they? I googled it and found this video. Ever since I haven't been able to shake is out of my head so today I ordered one. Bruce, I hold you directly responsible for me having to skim $400 from the savings account and pulling a white lie to my wife :-)
Hmmmm Mine says “Made in Japan” on the dial. Put mine in an SKX case as well. Bought another one to keep original. Both “Made in Japan” models. Both have alignment issues as well.
2:13 wonder how many would be happy spending the thousands to get the free speck of dust on the seconds hand just below the pip. If that passed QC and I am sure it's not just one stage of Qc at the higher spectrum can you imagine what you could find on the parts a customer doesn't see.Seiko must hate you for your close up shots🤫. Real eye opener to Seiko quality.
Saw this one in a store and it catched my eye. It’s available in Sweden. So I think it’s readily available on eu? The gray dial is nice. I used to have the blue turtle but this one was nicer.
Own the dark Knight because of you. Per your rec I think I got it from kenta? If that was the source you recommended at the time. He sent pics before buying and perfect alignment on all fronts!
Have one.... Not selling too nice. Just wish they did coin edge and ceramic. The dial and case look premium but the aluminum bezel looks like stock skx
BW, I just received this model from an Ebay seller, WATCHESDEALS. Perfect alignment and MIJ. just a heads up if you're still looking. Great video as usual!
Seikos have had alignment issues for decades. I've seen old divers and photos of old divers from the 70's with misaligned chapter rings. Why all the crying now?
You all understand that the chapter ring the SRP and SKX are floating right? They move, and will shift. If it bothers you that much, glue it down. It's not that big of a deal, it is what it is. Seiko is not going to re-engineer these pieces.
Poor quality control is why I left Seiko. Seriously, misalignment? Why wouldn't this be an issue. It should be. Sub par quality is just inexcusable. Who would buy a defective car? Stereo system? Mobile phone?
Yes the alinement is a well known issue with Seiko. The day when I can be sure to get one with a proper alinement is the day I will buy one. Sadly I suppose that this day will never come.
Bruce Williams received mine yesterday and my alignment is good, only thing is the bracelet is super cheap. Hate the jingle it makes. Can see why you chose to go with uncle seiko, bracelet totally sucks
