I'm 73, been a rock music fan since '58, and completely missed the Stone Roses back in the day, not sure they were ever a big deal in the States. If they were, it was prob just in L.A. and NYC. Love the sound of these guys, great players and fine songwriters, too. Last month I even bought myself a really cool Reni hat. Reni's obviously a genius, defined as somebody who does something extremely well which is absolutely unique. Hendrix is one of those, so are Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Captain Beefheart and even Paulie!

I'm about 20 years younger than you and Canadian. They weren't on mainstream radio, but all the alternative kids knew who they were in the early 90s. I don't know if mainstream rock stations ever played them, but in my world they were pretty huge. I remember people just waiting and wondering when they'd release their second album. I'm blown away by just how good their first album was. Most bands don't start so strong. It's hard to believe this recording is from 1989. They were so solid with their music, and nobody else was doing what they were yet.

I could watch Reni play all day! If you were to pick your best lead singer, base guitarist, guitarist and drummer to ever come from Manchester Reni would be first pick, I will let you guys decide the other three band members!

...dont forget the Guitarist people...2 fender twin reverbs and a country gent creating a swirl of whirly loveliness and trance inducing waves...plus the other 3 = total escape and groovy dancing.

There's this luminescent aura around them and this tune, still after the many years of hearing this.

Easy to forget that The Roses really broke through via word of mouth. They hardly ever got played on the radio and did very little TV, but they were the band that the cool kids talked about. The hype was real.

He was mad that he couldn’t be the lead singer. He whined to Hooky, who produced Elephant Stone, that he was a better singer than Ian Brown. Maybe he was but not a better front man.

When he first joined in the mid 80's he was the star of the band. He played with Pete Townsend for a charity gig and PT said he was one of the best he'd seen.
