The story and nightmare of the 2004 Kenworth W900 

A 19 yr old truck will run like a new truck if kept up. We have a fleet that ranges from 1994 - 2006, all which run regional / long haul. I expect nothing less than like new condition. You take care the truck, the truck will take care of you. Don't cut corners when it comes to maintenance. It will cost you later

The first used truck I bought cost me approximately $20,000 in the first year and a half I owned it, the dealer I bought the truck from covered some of the repairs, and what they didn’t cover they gave me a hell of a discount, I was 23 years old, the owner of the dealership felt horrible, I’ll never forget how those folks helped me out. Once I got the bugs out that truck ran like velvet and I got years of great service.

Damn!! I’ve got a 1993 with a 3406B that has 70k on a complete rebuild. I am selling it for 65K. ALL PAPERWORK OF EVERYTHING DONE FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS! 8 new air bags, u-joints, carrier bearings, power steering box, thrust plate, BullyDog stage II Turbo, rebuild, Harmonic Balancer, alternator, Injection Pump w/AFRC and all attachments, radiator, etc. Too much to list. Runs like new with a straight 15 speed and 3:70 rears.

For some reason I love this video, your attitude is so calm even with all the problems the truck came with.

Should definitely shout out the business you bought it from. Sounds like a stand up place that I’d do business with. I’ve had many issues with the truck I bought 6 months ago. Trans, injectors, frame cracked(had to of cracked before I bought and never saw it behind the spring hanger) and then finally the engine needed rebuilt due to low liners.

I drove for 50yrs. Retired now. A lot of components to trucking that steering wheel holders can't keep up with. Only a good trucker. Nice ride. If I had that one I probably wouldn't come home every 6 months. I used to do that in the early 70s. Ride safe boys an girls.

I run a lot on Hwy 50 and 33 and I use to see that truck sitting at a truck tire shop on 33 right before 50 . I think that’s who painted the truck. Always wondered what happened to it . Sorry that happened to you man , happens a lot these days. Can trust a man’s word no more.

wow ! so sorry you had to go through all that ! but like you said now it s done, you happy, driver happy and it s rollin ! I m retired now 66 and lived in trucks for 35 years !been o/o for the first 2 1/2 years from 1986 to 89 them sold the truck and went as a driver for the rest of my trucking life ! LoL Kenworth was my favorite truck but of course i loved Pete too ! Actually, the truck on my logo was that one i bought in early 1986 ! was a 1985 R model mack 350 econodyne ! would ve been perfect for USA driving tandem trailers ! But in Canada we haul heavy and it was a 15 speed and geared to go very fast, no power ! LoL But it was my first truck and i never consulted any experience people before bying it ! I figured if i bye a heavy-duty truck i wouldn t have any problems ! Wrong ! LoL i put 35,000 $ in 2 years on that truck and it was indeed a heavy-duty truck ! Camel-back suspension, sleeper smaller than a coffin, no cruise control no air seat but that was ok i never put air in the seat ! Well this must be the longest comment ever done ! drive safe ! over n out......🤠

If there's anything I've learned in my career so far: don't EVER trust anyone to have done their job. It's a mostly independent job for a reason, and paying someone for their services is no guarantee they will even do what you asked them to do. I know this first hand - a dot inspection you pay for will often not catch what you sent it in for.

IM 100% with you brother. I dont like the full fenders. I like the look of the raw tire, Plus makes it so much easier to inspect your tires. Not to mention ease when pulling certain trailers. I love the truck!

It's also easy to overlook things on something this big with so much to check....if your doing a real through check it should almost take 2 days to 100 percent completly look over everything..we can't always take 2 days to look over a truck that you might not even buy but love the content keep it up brotha...

They probably painted the steps black because they put those stainless tank covers on there. Well polished aluminum and stainless both give off a different TONE of metal. So they probably did that because they didnt match after the tank covers,

I've actually seen that truck here in Memphis Tennessee it was probably around late 2016 into early 2017 they had stopped off at a grocery store here.

It all depends on the purchase price .

Yes look at paper work carefully, bought a wreck kenworth owner supplied paper work to insurance for engine work , l told ins co something is wrong because Cat c-13 has two turbos & all paperwork showed (3) turbos purchased. Called dealer name on receipts parts man said see # at top of receipt that is serial # for truck the quote was for , 1 number was for a KW other was for pete. look paper over careful & deduct core charges!!

Forget everything and do some miles and everything will go smooth.

Sure its a negative thing that you had to do all that with the motor and all, But many negatives lead to positives, And the positive is .. Now you KNOW you did it all from scratch.. So shes got a clean bill of health you are 100% sure about. So thats the positive.

It's an 18+ year old, 1.2 million mile truck. That's a crap shoot no matter how well a truck is maintained(or not). It comes down to your ROI. If you can run it for 5 years with minimal downtime and repairs, well worth it. As an aside, back in 1985 my dad traded a 1981 White Road Boss that looked great with about 500k miles in on a 1985 Freightliner COE. He had the old Silver Series in the Road Boss rebuilt the year before and had about 100k on the rebuild. It had a 100k warranty and it was just out. Anyway, we get home and as we walk inside the house, the phone was ringing. It was the Columbus, OH Freightshaker dealer he just traded the truck into. Mind you, they took the White gor a test drive and had one of their mechanics go through it and give it a thumbs up. It THREW A ROD being driven into their back lot. We had absolutely no idea anything was wrong with it. My dad just wanted a newer truck with a warranty and more power. The dealer demanded my dad return the new Freightliner. He declined. We felt bad for the blown engine but we acted in good faith, there was no deception. The Freightliner had a 350 hp Cummins Big Cam 3 and it pulled great. So much better than that Detroit oil leaking boat anchor. Anyway, the previous owner most likely would not have any idea that engine would go teets up almost 100k miles later. And I'd bet he paid for new bearings. If a small, independent shop bought a rebuild kit for it, there would most likely not be a factory warranty. I went on to quit driving and became a Diesel mechanic and have since retired. I'd pay a pretty penny to have that old Road Beast back. I loved it. Slow or not, it was the first truck I drove and it made me feel like a real trucker. Good luck with your W900. It still looks good.

Honestly....this would be a great show truck not a work truck. To much maintenance (like an RV), heavy on the fuel costs and can only haul light loads. Beautiful truck though!
