Brainbug was a project from Italian producer and musician Alberto Bertapelle. In 1996 Alberto produced the track "Nightmare", which became a big hit in countries such as the UK, the USA, but also in Australia, Ireland, Scotland and The Netherlands.
In November 2016 Alberto Bertapelle sadly passed away, when he was performing on stage during a concert of the Abbashow. He was only 57 years old....
In this vlog you will hear a bit more about Alberto Bertapelle, plus of course I will tell you something more about his biggest hit; "Nightmare" by Brainbug.

I was kinda’ obsessed with Nightmare when it came out. I had no idea that Alberto had passed away. I’ll play it again and raise a glass to him and the beautiful music he left us.

It was also used for the first haute couture show of Alexander McQueen for Givenchy, with vocals of Maria Callas.

I was first introduced to this excellent tune when it was played at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium as a prelude to the teams coming out of the tunnel. They continued to play this for at least two seasons, if memory serves, and, for me, there's never been a better tune as a match build-up before or since.

I’m pretty sure that Faithless - insomnia from 1995 was preceding Nightmare with the pizzicato sound and the song that actually kicked off that sound. Not many managed to do it good. Brainbug was one of them. Others like Brooklyn Bounce did it bad.

I remember. The year 1996-1997 was when the pizzicato sound was used in dozens of club songs. It is a pity that the fashion for using this sound faded away, as did Dream Dance. It is a pity that Alberto himself could not tell the story of the creation of this track, but this is life and none of us can live forever. I still love his remix for Music Instructor - Rock Your Body. It is rare that a remix can be better than the original. Until today I have the CD Music Instructor Electro City and it's good that someone came up with the idea to put the Brainburg remix on it. By the way, inspired by these years I'm working on my own tracks where I use the pizzicato sound:)

Benedictus didn't seen to get as much play as Brainbug but I still liked it a lot. There are Club 69 mixes that are pretty cool .

Deffo a 97 Dance floor hit for me. I used mixed Vincent De Moor - Flowtation and Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Original Three 'N One Mix) with this tune. GG's.

Also a good fact about brainbug - nightmare is that Leeds United used to use the track as their theme when the players would re-emerge from the tunnel at half-time. For many years

The Original Mix is criminally underrated, it has that distinctive dream house sound that Robert Miles took off by storm back in the mid 90s. The Sinister Strings Mix is a classic but I feel it heavily overshadows the other mixes that came out. In fact, the Sinster Strings Mix is so popular that some people think it's the Original Mix of Nightmare despite the fact that there is an obscure Original Mix not a lot of people have heard.
