Great truck. I have owned 2 deuces and 2 5 ton M923A2. I just used mine for parades and events. Still in a military vehicle club and help out.

I do try to keep informed by watching your videos and others too. I have been home-bound for a year and it's getting old. I sure hope the economy is good in your area. Stay safe and healthy. In my experience the steering tires will "cup" the treads if you do not rotate them enough, The tire in the shot early on where the front tire is to your right 0:21+ looks brand new with zero cupping if you were to ask me. Best of days to you and your family Josh !

I need to trade my Beautiful 4runner in and get a truck like that. And a ladder so I can get in the cab. What a fun vehicle. Come pick me up for a ride....we can hit the Veterans Home in Payson UT. And pile lots of the guys in. Hey, that bed part could hold a lot of wheelchairs with Heros sitting in them, and we could pass out pizza and cokes. Throw the trash on the floor of the bed. I'll sweep it all up later. Seriously...nice truck!

The M-817 are "older" trucks but better. I have an M-925 it has an automatic, get 3 MPG hauling gravel. (as much as I can stack on, pit run, probably like 10 yards.....)

I drove a 1984 M-923 from Wenatchee, WA to western SD. 1600 ++ miles Never went thru a scale.

That M-923 has super singles and at the governor will make 62mph, and I averaged 6=6.5 mpg, I was also pulling a small van trailer (military admin van, Vietnam vintage)

Please check the nameplate for the chassis / engine / cab and advise. If this is gasoline engine, likely much older than 30 years. The dump bed is same as late 1950's in combat engineer companies. Kindly read 'The Damned Engineers" and "Hitler's Adjutant" for the 291st Combat Engineers heroic stand at the battle of the bulge in mid December 1944. Thank you.

The air filter on the left fender and the fact that it is from the M809 series trucks tells you it is a Cummins NHC250 straight six diesel. They were built in the 1970's.

It's an M817 which is apart of the M809 series trucks.They were designed by Kaiser Jeep but built under AM General.The M812's-M820's were produced during 1969-1982.All of them came with the NHC-250's from Cummins.The only yet last five ton trucks with gasoline engines were any of the original M39/M139 series variants.Those trucks had R602's from Continental.The later verisons such as the A1's had Mack ENDT-673's and A2's always had multi fuel engines.

''Dirt Perfect'' is building a dump truck from an old Army(?) truck. Putting a drop axle, adding 5ft and other things to it. Pretty cool. Thumbs up.

Just wondering if you could recommend a good and reasonable excavating contractor in or around the St. Maries Idaho area. We are looking at buying bare land and just need to be pointed in the right direction as far as finding someone who can excavate. Thank you.

I recently bought one and can not figure out how to disable pto ,it runs consistently....i have a lever next to high low range but was told that operated the winch that use to be on the front . Any suggestions?

It sounds like you might need to consult the manual or reach out to the manufacturer for specific instructions on disabling the PTO. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the issue.

Try buying one of those tires new at a tire shop........15-18 hundred EACH!!!!!! Stick with military surplus....

Late reply,but no this has the Cummins NHC-250.All of the M812's-M820's (The truck in the video is a M817) had Cummins. The only five ton trucks that actually had multi fuel engines were the M51A2's-M543A2's with most having LDS-465's.

Those trucks are very "heavy" empty, my dumper weighs almost 26K (empty)
