I don't think to bad to work on them, it's easier to work on my duece, but still easier to work on then then newer vehicles like Jim said. Only thing sucks, is price of parts, and only got worse in last few years.

Maintenance is easy on most of them, except the 936. There’s always a special section in the TM for the 936 cause there are extra steps on account of the wrecker body being in the way.

@@jimbo80982ain't that the truth! Heck, Chris had this thing running on half watered-down diesel! Military vehicles may not be comfortable, BUT THEY ARE MADE TO RUN whether you have half of it shot up or just have motor oil for fuel! I wish civilian cars were made more like this: less electronics, more mechanical and fire-hardened!

I was pleased to see you with hearing protection when you removed the nuts from the split rim. Later, with angle grinder and air tool not so much. Always hearing protection. Foam ear plugs, covers, maybe both. You're a young man and it only takes a moment. I'm 60 and I hear everything. A lifetime of being mindful.

Great video guys. Chris, you and Jen seem like sweet, caring, kind and genuinely nice people. The world needs folks like you! My Dad was in the Canadian Army for 36 years - they called 5 tons HLVWs (Heavy Logistical Vehicle, Wheeled) and deuce-and-a-halfs MLVWs (Medium Logistical Vehicle, Wheeled). I worked as a civilian at a Cadet camp in my 20s and they called deuce-and-a-halfs MBFATs (Medium Big F*cking Army Trucks). I rode in a few as a kid - Dad was a vehicle tech in the earlier part of his career and has no doubt wrenched on plenty and driven more! Mom and Dad are still alive and well - Dad is 81. Keep up the great work!

Coming from someone who has been around trucks and heavy equipment for over 60 years, this truck would not pass a DOT check and should not be driven on any public roads. I have converted dozens of Deuces and 5 tons from 6x6 to 4x4 and the rear springs on this probably came from a 1 ton military trailer. They are not strong enough or safe to be used on this rig. AXLE TWIST WILL occur. JUST MY TWO CENTS. I also spent 4 years in the Marine Corps in Motor Transport and I know these trucks and others well. Semper Fi. 1967-1971.

REAL ? ,,H OW DOES THE FUEL FILTER KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DIESEL & WATER .. ??
@NoNonsenseKnowHow

Water is heavier than diesel and sinks to the bottom. Also some fuel filters have a water block element on them that rejects water molecules from passing through but will allow diesel

Great video! I’ve been working on mine for about three years maybe four and it is an awesome 925A1 with a winch. Hope to see more content! Highly recommend pure silicone grease on the O-ring and I even use it on the beads and valve stem grommet when I’m rebuilding the wheels. I’ve done about four so far and they don’t lose air. I believe the silicone keeps the water off the surfaces. When I took them apart I had to clean RTV off of them and they were rusty in the O-ring grooves. I particularly liked your fuel system cleaning efforts and need to check mine. There is a spin on filter kit that’s a nice upgrade and is on my list.

@@tihspidtherekciltilc5469 you are correct about the dodge part. But he is right when you bob a 5 ton or a deuce they look different and drive different. In addition the 5 ton part refers to off-road load capacity, so when u drop a axle and cut a frame your load capacity drops, so he is right it’s no longer a 5 ton.

Figure it out Yeah, totally agree with that. Thing about it is it's very time consuming releasing the air and adding air with these tires so that's the only reason I didn't. Now you know why you need a squad in the back to help change tires lol. I was having flashbacks watching this.

Hey buddy. Way up in Canada here, love the videos. I just subscribed! Love your info. I run some off road trucks with air set up, one thing I changed is that I started out with female air connections off my truck but switched to male end on the truck that way it won’t rust closed like the female couples does.

Must hand it to you, if y'all lived down south, you would definitely be a "good ole' boy!" Sure you know that's a huge compliment! Great video sir!

I was playing this mostly as background noise, but watching him demolish a corn field was hilarious.
