Imam Hussain's maqtal was predicted by the Holy Prophet Muhammad from the time Imam Hussain was a child. And many other instances. There is more to the maqtal of this beautiful and noble grandson of Rasulullah than we feeble mortal minds can understand.

He [asws] went originally to Kufa as people of Kufa invited him [asws] to come, promising to support him [asws]. After almost reaching Kufa things changed to 180 degrees. Kufians betrayed him [asws]. Do more research to draw the whole picture of the event.
Essentially he received letters from the Kufans saying that they are pledging allegiance to Hussain SA. No less than 18,000 Kufans pledged their allegiance. So on his way to Kufa he was stopped by Hurr ibn Yazid al Riyahi who had around a 1000 soldiers and told Hussain SA that he cant enter Kufa and neither can go back to Madina, so he Hussain SA to find another way. Hussain SA asked one of his companions to find a way through and eventually they landed in Karbala

The Day of Ashura has NOTHING to do with Hussein's martyrdom. On this Day, the Prophet Muhammad explicitly and clearly talked about Prophet Musa and the liberation of Bani Isra'il from pharaoh. In Islam we do NOT celebrate the dead or worship their tombs. This goes against the principles of tawheed. Leave the dead alone: they CANNOT do anything for you.

Ashura was celebrated by prophet Muhammed (s.a.w). Don't confuse it with a battle that coincided with that date. Many other great sahaba were martyred why do the shias not mention them

In Islam all humans are equal with the grace of Allah. No one is above or below. All humans including all prophets are equal. We respect all the noble people who died to protect Islam. I pray for their jannah. But as a true believer of one creator Allah, I do not believe in identify myself as Sunni or Shia or any sect.
