my thoughts exactly it feels as if gwen is as much a fking child as viego with isolde as in, he is her adoptive dad who took her attention away and now both are doing the exact opposite just to get mommy back if that is what they aimed for im in :D
@@ardaerkul9135 well yea, that's most likely the case. But I guess , freljord in general could be pretty high too. But only because all the stuff around lissandra and her actions with the watchers.
@@kezelbrezel For example, both have an event that is used to promote them, (Worlds for Sera and The Ruination season for Gwen) this champions also have similar body features and facial structure wich is something pretty common among female champions, and finaly for this comment, they want to change the world and have hopefull personalities (wich in 2018 was the reason nunu and zoe were called "disney champions")
I definitely feel they put more effort in Gwen. She looks more like she could be in Runeterra and her voicelines are waaaaay better. Gwen actually has a personality in her voicelines and her story makes more sense compared to Seraphine's original story as it doesn't have the problem of going against her personality.
I mean Sera was also “hype KDA”, and Gwen can’t even stand for herself without the ruination event, so she has less value as a Solo champ. My point is that I don’t mind Sera or Gwen, but they have the same core issues, but because Gwen is just there with less promotion she gets a pass so to me it’s pretty hypocritical to have one and love or even praise the other, even if you love Seraphine and for some reason hate Gwen just because (it’s the internet after all)
This is what I was thinking too. I know people were expecting Isolde, but like... come on. If this year's whole storyline will revolve around Viego and characters related to his story, it would've make zero sense for Riot to reveal the two (quite possibly) most important players of the story back to back.
I strongly agree there, From doll to becoming Human because of Isolde's soul frament. She is seeing aaalll this for the first time, she doesn't even know what she is.
that would be awesome but i hope like other champion will join to help gwen, like Soraka,A.S,Leona,Diana...I think the targonians are the only one's will care. Freljord (sorry for bad spellings) will most likely just be protected by Lyssandra,Shurima will probably die,Naxus will probably have a chance but will most likely die,Demacia will probably have a chance but also die,Piltover will make a portal to another plane and leave the Zaun people to die,Bilgewater is screwed like i did to your mom and Ionia,Ixtal and The void will survive.
@@kamusta3446 targon is the farthest place form the isles in runeterra, so they would be the last the ever be hit by the black mist and viego's wrath, if at all, so I'm my opinion, targonians would be the last to care about this. Human targonians are way to busy fighting and killing themselves and the celestials might think to highly of themselves to even bother getting involved
I think the maiden that follows yorick is not another fragment of Isolde's soul but in actuality her corpse now turned into an undead wraith, since the mist doesn't seem to target the maiden specifically and it behaves like any other mist spawn.
I thought the same, maybe the maiden is the leftovers of Isolde body, that wraith that was angry because was revived and stabed Viego, while Isolde soul fragments contains her true self
I really like that Riot make Viego turns out to be not only a horrible king, but a horrible person in general. We always thought the story of The Ruined King was a tragedy, a love story that ended with suffering. But turn out it was a horror story, a scary tale about obsession and delusion. I wouldn't be suprised if the assassin in the the story was hired by Isolde.
tbh i think it would be more interesting if it was a tragedy, but yeah, dont think riot's gonna be able to do that, they just never write good tragedy villains
Makes me think she Was kinda forced into it and she didn't have much of a choice, you can't say no to a King as a seemstrees or you're probably dead, i don't think isolde hated him and maybe even liked him at First but went mad due to his Obsession with her and they got married VERY QUICKLY (many of his voice lines are RED FLAGS on his Obsession behaviour)
@@snqoqo did his obsession from before or after she died cus i wasnt listening, well if they write him as an absolute dick asshole king with no redeeming qualities imma just give LoL lore a hard fuck u and never care about it ever agian
The "Why is she so happy" argument can be looked at this way imagine not being able yo do anything but to observe, not being able to feel, taste, etc. Anyone who has never been able to feel for let's say a decade would be similarly happy for being able to experience life.
@@gunlyte4661 I fail to see the connection with Yordles, but Veigar is a good example, traumatized into a comical villan, some truly have the worst of fates
Wasn't Ionia all about "every object has a soul" or something like that? I suppose if enough love is put into something, it gains a bit of sentience? Ionians respect all and everything, and respect can mabe be considered a type of love i guess. Sol even has that line, "love is as real a force as gravity". Perhaps this also ties in to Orianna, who is now an object, that still has a soul (?) because thr love of her father allows it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk
I'm probably repeating myself for the past few days. But just the fact that Gwen throwing shades at Seraphine in her voice lines make me love her. and her lore makes her even more cute and getting "pledge to protect" vibe.
Sona player here. I’m agitated how Sera has overshadowed Sona (Whose lore I love). Irregardless of personality or lore, Gwen insulting Sera made me instantly like her.
She actually loves Viego and willingly became the princess because thats what she wanted to be. Gwen in a sense is what Isolde thought a princess would be.
What I feel like would be awesome is a "Hallowed" skin line. Like the Ruined skin line is The Black mist corrupting normal champions, the Hallowed skin line would be the Hallowed mist "cleansing" Shadow Isles champions. This could both include actual *evil* ones like Thresh and Hecarim, and also the "good" Shadow Isles champions like Maokai and, most importantly, Yorick. Yorick could even have a *hallowed* Maiden, which would look more human-like
What's sp00ky about one of Gwen's line is it implies that ANYTHING made has at least some magic put into it by the person (her last breath line). Similar to what aatrox said about being trapped in the sword, this could mean that any doll, any "object" really, that someone anthropomorphizes becomes alive to a degree, and can possibly suffer because of it.
@@Steel_ but it's nowhere near as kinky as a mouthless, motionless being that has no way of expressing the horror of its own existence which consists of being a toy for some sick, depraved mind as he, day after day, uses it without consent, further devaluing its existence despite having the same level of sapience as its master. Listen, if people in the real world can be into similarly weird shit you can bet your ass Runeterra is full of borderline sociopathic fetishists.
I honestly like Gwen’s story. Because she is at least connected to the story and is not a fanfiction like Seraphine’s ”magical journey full of music” and the dead of Skarner’s kind with her.
Now that I think about it, Isolde's soul fragment is probably not in Yorick's Maiden of the Mist but in his veil of holy water from the Blessed Isles. After all, Isolde was resurrected in the holy waters of the Blessed Isles.
I believe the maiden of the mist is Isolde's soulless body, or a fragment of Isolde that was corrupted by the black mist and Yorick shields himself with the water vial
nah i doubt it. Yorick had his vial waaaay before the ruination and it was isolated from Isoldes corpse so it wasn't tainted water either. The maiden doesnt seem like a fragment of her soul. Idk what the maiden is. Maybe like a lingiring will/emotion that belongs to isolde but uses the souls of those who die in the black mist like some sort of parasitic hivemind but thats a super big stretch AND i high key doubt any of riots writers were thinking of something like that.
You know even if Gwen is similar to seraphine, I’d rather play a champion who has a proper back story instead of someone that just wanted to sing. Also her voice lines don’t make me 🤮
She’s still mediocre even after a deep dive, but that’s ok, the last true good champ might be Jhin, of course taste is subjective, but no matter where you look, last champs have the same issues people hated Sera for example, and Gwen is not different, both in gameplay and design wise, only in lore she is relevant, but she can’t carry that weight without Viego himself, so it’ll pretty average
I dont see any "domestic violence" in getting mental issues because your loved one died, killed loces because of paranoia, invade another kingdom just to resurect your leved one and then she kills you, making you forget those last moments and looking for the one that got away even if you kill everything living, so please lavorate where is Viego a douche to Isolde
While Viego sounds like a controlling, obsessive prick, we kinda have to remember his story points to before: He wasn't raised to rule, he was raised to WAR; it's what he knew how to do. Basically a rich playboy that was told if he wanted to "stay" a rich playboy, he had to be a murdering menace. He became super- obsessive AFTER Isolde's death, as he probably lost the one person he believed truly loved him- for him, and nothing else. Speculations: Camavor was a Kingdom that made its money through war and conquering; and if none of that was going on during Viego's rule because he was too busy playing house- then that empire's economy would have flunked, bad and fast. He was put on a spot to rule; and being crowned usually means you had to wed just as quickly, if you weren't matched beforehand, as he was only a conquering hand before, it was probably thought he'd expire well before he'd become "problematic" for his brother(s). It was a common tactic for royals to use (I.e. violent borders, unstable situations...) to get rid of unwanted siblings. Political marriages probably bored him, considering he didn't care for nothing and no one- he didn't have to before, more than likely no one actually cared about him either, being a back-up kid for the parents and a rival for his brother. He and Isolde probably encountered each other while he toured the territories after his coronation- as you do when you are crowned. She dreamed of becoming a princess, as peasants do, and didn't hesitate when he offered. Gwen probably felt abandon by this, and placed the blame (rightfully!) on Viego, as he is thinking of himself here. While it's hard to say what their relationship was like (in his story, it was " their romance was enchanting") but to consider his voicelines, she was very different from the world he knew. Her viewpoint on everything must have been so drastically different from his cold, bloody brutal reality, and if we included her beauty, he would have been sold in an instant. He wanted that one thing he could never grasp and she enchanted him with her "life"- and while he probably offered everything to have her, she just wanted him- and that is what enthralled him the most. Meanwhile, the kingdom is going into a handbasket because neither of them knew how to rule, plus"honeymooning", lol. The " Isolde might have hired the assassin" holds weight due to a disillusionment- either the kingdom falling apart and her pleas fell on deaf ears, or he really turned out to be a sadistic narcissist (very likely he still was, regardless) But also consider: he would have put her behind himself, regardless- and if he didn't, its a possible point of guilt for him that led to madness. But if even if he did attempt to protect her, she would have to put herself between them- love instinct, ugh- and that's also how she got grazed (also a point of guilt), but it was ultimately her choice that she died instead of him, one SHE KNEW. Doing his selfish act in his attempts to bring her back is robbing her of the choice she made out of love, and has the usual effectiveness of waking a now- sleeping insomniac with an airhorn. She made peace with the Kindred but was ripped away from that; all I can imagine is that it was nothing short of agony of a prolonged death. He needs to release his grief and his guilt (its what is causing this selfishness) in order for her to accept him again, but until then, she will shy away from the Monster he has become. On another note, no one seems to remember that the Blessed Isles were shrouded in a hallowed mist, which had succeeded in reviving Isolde before she stabbed Viego's dumb ass. I would imagine that her soul fragment contain said "hallowed mist" because of the success, and that's why Isolde isn't corrupted. Edit: I know I don't really say a lot about Gwen here, but I've seen a lot of comments just summing up their (Isolde & Viego) relationship as an abusive one, and while frankly its just unhealthy and Viego is VERY irresponsible, that doesn't mean all the aspects of said relationship was terrible.
I think its because she has a fragment of isoldes soul within her or smsort, and she may be a fragment of isoldes imagination or dreams for a daughter plus isolde and gwen also has a strong bond :))
@@cnaro8073 of course we need more voidborn, but this year riots focusing a majority of their efforts on the shadow isles. Perhaps we can expect void advancements in a future seaeon
Also in gwen trailer, when isolde dissapears she turns into a lot of soul like things, does this mean that her soul was split appart and a lot of pieces are around the world or something?
From what I have collected, Viego & Gwen are people who have in contact with Isolde, which if you think about it, the next champion which could be a yordle, must have been in contact with Isolde as well. Same for the champion after her.
It honestly makes sense that there isn't much to Gwens story yet. For one thing its just the beginning of her story, and for the other its part of a much grander story which is that of Isolde.
I mean, it's mostly her biography/origin story, which is pretty decent. I'm hoping Riot will release many stories in which Gwen will have a bigger role as opposed to this just explaining where she came from. Like Necrit says, this is a setup. We do have many champions whose lore is only their biography, and that's about it (I'm still waiting for more lore on Malzahar, Riot). But because Riot has claimed the champions to be released this year will follow the same story, all we have to do is wait and I'm sure we'll see the point of Gwen's story. So people just have to stop hating on her for being "another pretty girl champion" (apparently, most league players hate pretty girls) by hiding behind the excuse of her lore.
I think the reason gwen thinks isolde was not happy was because when Isolde was with viego she abandoned her craft and Gwen , hence why she was locked up with her tools, viego seems like he would do anything to make her happy so I doubt Isolde was unhappy But when she was poisoned what viego turned into is what made her unhappy and she likely didn’t like what he had become and wanted him to move on , I feel like the two were happy until the moment viego became ruined and it was only after she was poisoned and viego was pining after her old things was Gwen out again to see them so she only seen the bad part , I know since he is a champion in game already viego can’t have a redemption ending or a death ending for this year of his story unless they pull a gangplank and change his base skin but have his old skin and voice be a traditional skin
Here's the problem with the idea that "she's human now and she's learning what it is to be alive" idea. There's plenty of things on and outside of Runeterra that aren't human that are also alive. Malphite is a rock. A walking, talking, body-slamming rock. If Malphite can be a rock, Zac can be a mass of goo, and Skarner can be a scorpion made of crystals, Gwen can be a doll.
Well yes but I mean I think turning her into a human has more of an impact like , she is a totally new being than just a doll and yes you can argue that if she were a doll it would be good too but then she would just be a doll that is alive :/
What if the memories Gwen thinks of as her own are actually Isoldes memories, and she just believes that they are hers, in reality she’s just an inanimate object; a tool for Isolde to project her trauma onto. Isolde doesn’t hurt for what happened to her because this isnt ‘isolde’.
@@vorexin6201 The implication is that she is made human because of the fragment of Isolde's soul inhabiting the dolls body. My assumption is that the fragment has Isolde's fond memories of her doll and that piece of her is projecting those memories as if they were from Gwens perspective and not Isolde's. I'm led to believe that 'Gwen' is truly just a doll and without Isolde lacks consciousness.
The Story of Gwen starts when her cousin find an extraterrestrial watch in the forest that can turn her cousin into monste-- wait. This is very random, I know.
IT STARTED WHEN THE RUINATION CAME AND WRECKED THE WORLD A DOLL IMBUED WITH MAGIC POWER FROM ISOLDE’S SOUL NOW SHE’S GOT GIANT SCISSORS SHE’S NO ORDINARY GIRL SHE’S GWEN 10
I find it interesting that gwen came to life centuries later after the ruination just showing how long viego has been looking for isolde and how few and far between isolde fragments are
Idk if im right, but if you look at the first ruination cinematic, where senna encountered viego, she shot isolde soul out of his hands and it fell into the sea… maybe this is how the soul found gwen
the shadow isle's man on teemo's journal reminds me of pyke with his glowing eye... cause remeber: we do not know why names appear on his list, and he is supposed to come in the stories of the ruined king so...
And to bring new stories about crystals but fans went mad and accused Seraphine of killing skarner race while she didn't even know what creatures souls are inside those crystals
wait in the cinematic Viego takes the soul of the queen but doesn't it still stay there? and in the Gwen trailer, Gwen is brought to life with a blue orb thing, that could be the soul of the queen maybe. another theory I have is Gwen's eye colors. the blue eye might mean Viego, and the pink x on the other one could mean the queens death? idk
You know how people say when you put your bestest work into your creation it has a part of your soul? And I think because she was one of Isoldes First Major Creation or first and only as a proper seamstress(the profession) before marrying the Ruined Creep. And I like how Gwen feels Isoldes distaste for Vergel and that will make her follow her instincts and feelings to fight the mists. Also Seraphine is in a Zaunite Ditch in terms of story, Gwen has more favorable loose ends, I mean the Ruined King game is coming out isn't it? Maybe she might appear in that?
A major driving factor behind Gwen's design is due to the influence of the Hallowed Mist, or more specifically the who-knows-what-the-hell-isolde-is-right-now. I think this is why she looks almost near perfectly humanlike. If Isolde genuinely wanted Gwen to experience being a human, then it would make sense that Gwen looks as pristine and uncorrupted as she is.
"Unlike Seraphine, Gwen actually has a purpose! She wants to defeat Viego." Hmmm. I guess there aren't enough characters that are after Viego... You know... Braum, Senna, Lucian, Yorick, Kalista, Ledros AND THE WHOLE REGION OF BILGEWATER (maybe even Olaf and Kindred). I get it. This is the year of the ruined King, but that doesn't mean that every new character needs to has a task "beat Viego's ass" on their to-do list. Remember how 2020 started? With Senna's cinematic. That was pretty much it for the shadow Isles and Demacia. And every character after that... HAD THEIR OWN DIFFERENT GOALS! APHELIOS-FIGHT THE SOLARI; LILLIA-BAIT THE FURRIES ; YONE-BAIT THE ANIME EDGELORDS WILE GIVING LORE FOR THE DEMONS ASN AN EXTRA; SAMIRA AN RELL- RIVALRY; SERAPHINE - BAIT THE SIMPS AND E-THOTS WHILE PISSING ON SKARNER.
@@MultiFandom8isFate like Sylas? I wish they'd do more like this too. But I'm still happy to have more female champions in the game! If only they didn't all have the same face and silhouette (except for Illaoi I guess)
I think you're missing the point a bit. Sure, she was turned into a human, but Riot didn't have to make her another "pretty girl", they could have done a lot more with her model. League is in no way missing her character model type and a doll brought to life gives you many, MANY opportunities to express something different. I think her model is "fine", it's just boring, uninspired and imo, wasted potential.
It would be cool if there was a massive event and viego acquired Isolde's soul inside Gwen, so just like Gankplank in his rework she was unplayable for a few days then came back in some way
@@teotlcipactli7530 I didn't mean that shed resemble a different champion I meant I'm glad she doesn't look random or generic compared to how the doll looked
A cool idea would've been keeping Gwen in Camavore instead of shadow isles. So she ends up being brought to life and exploring what is the current Camavore (is it in ruins, is it a new kingdom now, or is it just villages / towns?) PLUS! Riot could've set it up as Gwen having amnesia and being lost. She faintly remembers Isolde and such. So for the meantime, Gwen lives as a orphan (or an adopted family member). Then the mist appears. She tries to run (and so does her new found family. I like the orphanage idea more). When her family is endanger, she stands up to defend them. That's when the scissors form (essances from her soul) and her memories come back. She saves them and sets off on her journey, to end the sorrow that Viego is inflicting (another neat idea would've been if Gwen had half of the scissors. So one was real blade, other was the magic. So she summons it with Isolde's aid. PLUS imagine in game, her splitting the blade apart to do auto attacks like she's dancing). P.S. Riot missed a chance for an iconic use of a threads + tropes. the idea that each person is on a "life line." So she could see the threads of Viego in the mist, recognizing them from when he was alive. And notice some of Isodle's threads bonded to herself. THAT could b why she can fight the mist. She can cut Viego's thread, tieing into the poor souls, and set them free!
i think the maiden is another fragment of Isolde but it was corupted by Viegos mist and is close to Yorick cuz she wants him to pury her with the waters. all tho i luv this man(Yorick) i dont know much about his history.
Necrit, what if that "island chain" in the middle of the ocean on the western half of the map that hasn't been named or identified is the continent of Camavore? It would make sense for one reason, Runeterra is a world or planet after all, so it would make sense that it is spherical in shape.
