@@gigifabulous there's an AO3 fanfic where his brothers and sister fight their way out and flee, although their parents die. There's another one where Paddy runs into them by another author too that's inspired by the first one I mentioned. The name of the one where they survive is called "The Whitlaws" and the other is "A chance encounter" and they help me sleep at night too.
It literally did not click that High Hopes was the actual party name until it was stated at the end of this video. It's been such a long time since I felt the satisfaction of watching everything in a video make sense. "We have High Hopes" The double meaning it incurs has so much impact, and you know there's an entire adventure Paddy's gonna learn about. I am so excited for more!

His brother told him to be careful, that the outside world could be dangerous. But paddy leaving is what saved him from his family, and the town’s, fate.
I bet he feels guilty, Being the only one to have survived. Plus, who knows how long it stood like that? His hometown could've been destroyed only a few days after he left, somewhere in those two years, or it possibly being destroyed only so little time before he returns. Edit: I also have a theory that Malark and his gang of assassins did so. Maybe they were hired to kill the Whitlaw family off of a choice the family made. After learning that they missed one, Paddy, Malark is sent out to finish the job, and, well, we all know how _that_ turned out.

Whenever you randomly send away your youngest son for no other reason but to "experince" the world, its because you know your already screwed. Plus they sent him with a mask. They totally knew somone was targeting them at least. Maybe not who or when, but they knew it was coming soon and they had one hope left. Paddy.
Now that you say it, 4 years is just about as long as any powerful and influential group would take to get a reputation... Damnit now I want it even more!!!
I can't really describe the sense of awe that came over me when Paddy realized he was looking at "High Hopes". It took so long to click in my mind, but at that moment all the imagery that came before fell into pieces. Well done. The narration and build up of the story was beautiful. The art conveyed a lot of feelings. I'm really tearing up now.
Me, beginning: oh he's a rogue with a pretty chill backstory Me, during the war: oh hey this is getting kind of intense but he'll get through it Me, family dead: oh sh*t Me, Paddy meeting his friends: I'm fine
The part where he comes home to find everything in ruins... notice how it's all cold and grey and he's the only source of color and warmth? I like that.
Oooh I wasn't expecting to start with Paddy considering he joined the party later! But this definitely didn't disappoint. It was colorful, well paced, and had just enough animation to keep it looking lively without being too time consuming to put together. Poor guy, that is a pretty rough homecoming. Excited to see where the story goes from here!
My Guess is that it’s because he’s Alex’s character and the fact that we meet a little of the character in Chapter 0. Therefore it’s Paddy’s story of how he joins High Hopes and we will learn the others backstory later on
CAN I GET ANOTHER HELL YEAH!! the art style is predictably Gorgeous but in particular the scenes where Paddy summons the glowing leaves and where he stands at the door and Rook's arrival at the inn? goodness gracious I'm in love also all the little details? a flag or smoke swaying in the wind in an otherwise still shot? it's such a tiny thing but it does so much I might also be highkey in love with Rosa already also the whole theme of like...having hope...the heroes being known less for their heroic deeds and more for their unwavering belief that the world is worth fighting for? even just judging by the fact that they first drew Paddy's attention not by defeating some horrible evil, but by simply being happy together, you can tell that this is going to be a larger theme in the series and all I can say is that it's wonderful also Rook...what a NERD what a DORK what a fucking ICON petition to give Paddy a fucking hug...the boy deserves Good things "but ARE High Hopes" literal chills!! fuck!! this is about as disjointed as comments get but all that I wanted you guys to know that I absolutely adore this, in conclusion: thank you
that reveal of the team name-- i realize in hindsight i maybe should have seen coming?-- hit me with a gut punch of "oH SHIT" and i had to rewatch the video again to confirm grammatical sense. i LOVE that not even the captions spoil it by keeping the term lowercase. i love this name, concept, and team so much already and am astonished by the writing skills it demands to pull off such a fantastic twist. im v excited to see how this goes, so i guess you could say have high hopes for this series? lmao great job!!

This is amazing. Please continue to make more of these. The story alone is inspiring and mixing in a bunch of original characters drawn by an astounding artist just brings a smile to my face. I'm sure I am not the only one to say this, but I can't help but gush about the long-awaited story of High Hopes Low Rolls. Sadly, I can't support the patreon due to my own lack of funds, but you can bet that I will be supporting this in every other way. You could say that I have High Hopes for this story, and I would agree, but just knowing that something as beautiful as this exists fills my heart. This was just amazingly impressive. The action flowed so naturally between the scenes, the illustration and animation conveyed the characters personalities and emotions, and the narration/voice acting was perfect.

If I were a rich person who I give my money to amazing people I would give it too abd, THE WAY HE DREW is just astonishing but even if there was no art the way it was all composed with the music, the narration and the words picked. Yet with the art, it makes it so complete and beautiful. The part where the young boy looked at the glowing leaves was such a happy moment but then shortly after it was so smoothly transitioned to a sad moment of his family then back to happiness. I got shivers. SHIVERS SHIVERS!! a role model right here! thank you for all of you who made this video.
Dear god... rewatching this as a quick refresher before chapter two will be released.. cried again when Paddy stands at the door of his house after being gone for so long. gets me every time. looking forward to the next episode!
I love how they all look like normal people you can talk to on the street. Because in the end everyone is a person. From the rich and powerful to the homeless. We're all people.
can i just say the sound was phenomenal like between the music and the sound effects and the voiceover HOOO BOY that was good!!!! i especially loved the background talking in the tavern at the end, it really sold the sense of friendship between them all!!!!!

Omg I love how you guys did this instead of an animatic or even an animation. It feels so.... attainable a way to do it, speaking as an artist who CANNOT ANIMATE, but wants to add an art medium to my stories

10000000% worth the wait and hype ive been feeling since seeing that first speedpaint of the group by chance and I can't wait to have some money set aside to help out on the patreon! I dont think I have ever been as excited to learn about a D&D group as I have been to learn about High Hopes. One of my favorite parts was def Paddy bringing a smile to the man in the crowds face, tied with the ending of the party meeting together
I really love this, your art really drives home the tragedy of Paddy's backstory which is often brushed over in many characters and your DMs world building is absoultely fantastic with so many fleshed out people and places it's really just wonderful

It took me a while to understand where I heard that title, before I realized almost immediately after I failed to fine it as a podcast... That this was a story of Your campeign.... Yes indeed I did make a villain like that for the campaign Im running but which goes simlar context but flipped but here is a summary his name of abbether who was a dragonborn of 3 colors black red and blue and was a major leader of the cult of Tiamat during cult war (large war in my campaign between cults and others vs United Guilds and Others) before war end he disappeared then reappeared in Ivan Gaurd working for another organization so then the party were sent to capture on a OPS and on there final blow they hit the back of the neck and somthing shaders and dark energy flows throughout the room when he wakes up he claims to be Variant who was a white dragonborn tactian of UG. Most of the party were split in trusting him
we need the story from the other member's prespectiveeeeesss! Honestly this was bloody incredible but the best part of dnd characters I personally think is the fact that each and every one can be the main character from their perspectives and stories. But honestly this alone is fine because it was so well done
With being a DM myself, I have heard many D&D stories and epic moments from different peoples campaigns. But none of then were told like this. The way that I get invested with the characters, and slowly learning everything that the main party have done and their influence on the world. Breath taking. Can't wait for the next chapter.
"We have High Hopes" The repetition got my attention. At first I thought it was thematic hopepunk worldbuilding. Then the characters started saying it, and I thought it was some kind of secret society thing. And finally I realized that it was the party's moniker. Well done! That is some wonderful wordplay and a good name for a band of heroes. "The High Hopes." Fantastic.

This is so god damn adorable, sad, smile infusing and mostly heart warming that I am pretty much at a loss of words... Sounds like a great story to jump into and a perfect beginning of a novel [to be more accurate, book 2 if book 1 was everything summarized to this point]. I'd love to hear more of this!

I found myself pausing the video a lot of times to admire the artwork (THAT MAP HOLY SHIT), and was invested in the story even before the halfway point. Great job! Your art and character backstory is phenomenal, your group sounds amazing, and your DM is just...wow. The worldbuilding alone makes me speechless in awe.
