Mary McLeod Bethune's journey to found a college for black people seemed near-impossible for the African-American daughter of former slaves at the turn of the 20th century. Her school remains in Daytona Beach more than 90 years later.
I attended Bethune Cookman University in 2008 but I later Graduated from Southern University at New Orleans. I am extremely proud to be a product of Mary McLeod Bethune educational experience. I remember as a freshman there in our freshman into class we had to read over how the university was established and the history of her. I was inspired then and I am now till this day I am grateful for how she paved the way for us
What a wonderful tribute to an amazing scholar. She must have had strength and courage that most of us can only dream about. I read about some of her work in the Roosevelt administration. She was the first African American woman to be appointed to a position in the federal government, and she did extraordinary work on behalf of young people during the Depression. Thank you for this great film.
