The deadly alliance wasn't trying to bring back the dragon king. They were just trying to collect souls to control his immortal army. Onaga is technically dead in deception. His spirit poses reptile's body and transforms him into Onga. Once he's back at full power due to some sneaky tricks he played on shujinko (ya know, the hole reason why the game is named DECEPTION) He then goes to reclaim his army so he may take over all the realms and absorb them into himself. Onaga's goal is to become "The one being". Just a small thing ya got wrong.

Raiden didn't survive in the Deception intro. He created a blast that killed not only himself but, also Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Raiden's suicidal sacrifice turned him into Dark Raiden for the 1st time.

@sinan akdag I don't know what you mean by "leg it" but you can hear Quan Chi asking Raiden in the intro "What are you doing!?" as Raiden created the blast that killed all 3 of them. Now I'm not saying that Raiden returning as Dark Raiden was canon because in his Deception ending, he killed that dumb character Shujinko. But I like to think it was canon because Dark Raiden was the one who ended up getting killed by Shao Kahn in the intro to MK9. In Deception, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi were trying to hold Onaga back then Raiden created the suicidal electric blast that ended the 3 out of 4.

Error, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi did not seek to revive Onaga, they wanted to revive the Onaga ARMY, the Dragon King's prophecy was a collateral inconvenience along with what Shujinko did which he stole and brought the Kamidogou together, bringing back Onaga

Deception is a bit wrong. You the shao kahn and liu kang died part right, but the deadly alliance didn't want to resurrect the Onaga, they wanted to resurrect the army of the dragon king. The mortals fail to defeat the alliance and raidan was the only one left but failed. Onaga was then resurrected and came to the Outworld for shinnok's amulet. Raiden, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi formed a new alliance out of desperation; realizing that Onaga couldn't be defeated, Raiden sacrificed himself but it was not enough to kill him...

I find it weird why people always look back at old video-games whenever new games are being released. For instance before God of 4 was announced there were barely any videos about the previous PS2 Titles, I could only find some videos regarding God of War III, but after the announcement of GOW 4, new videos of the PS2 titles were released. But as new gameplay and trailers were released, there were non-stop videos of the PS2 Titles, such as Walkthroughs, Boss-Fight videos, tutorials, etc. Same can be said with Ratchet and Clank before the PS4 Reboot was announced or even the movie in around 2013
