Thrall not garroshing gallywix, or flattening his skull with the doomhammer, is one of the most infuriating lore discrepancies for me. It's out of character for thrall to just ignore him being a slaver
Agreed. The fact that Gallywix is still Trade Prince is simply bad writing. And if not Thrall, Garrosh would've never tolerated him as a faction leader of the Horde.
Lord D - I think it has more to do with goblin culture then anything, the person with the most riches and power is the leader, and that sort of is gallywix, even if he's an ass.
To me it always felt like the art team had already created the character as the faction leader while the story team had already set him up to be replaced, but couldn't develop a substitute in time and left him as the leader. But that's just my imagination. Who knows why they really left him.
Since we're on the topic of the Goblins and Gallywix you should check out Trade Secrets of a Trade Prince and The Blank Scroll, it has some pretty damn good lore regarding them both and adds some depth within his character as a whole.
This remains my least favorite questline lore-wise. The pseudo-importance placed upon the character immediately out of the gate was tolerable enough. However, seeing everything else from there was rather incoherent. While it is interesting to see the Alliance attack an unknown (seemingly neutral) vessel first, the motive for why begins and ends with "just following orders" with no further clarification or significance (several unprovoked Horde attacks fall into the same vein of frustration for me) and feels like its sole purpose was just to create a plot pivot situation of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" for the Horde and the goblins. And, my biggest point of contention with this quest is how Thrall handles Gallywix. Gallywix does the following: - refused passage to anyone who couldn't pay to board his ship (thus indirectly causing there deaths) - stripped anyone who could pay from ALL of their physical possessions, then proceeded to enslave and exploit them TWICE - put everyone under his command in extremely perilous and life-threatening conditions due to either incompetence, negligence, or outright insidious intent - actively pursued to kill the pc and all he/she loved dear out of pure spite and other petty reasons - then proceeds to try and kill Thrall These reasons alone should be reason enough for Thrall to execute the little pig-goblin right then and there on the spot, but instead he simply waves away all of the atrocities that Gallywix did. On top of that, he decides that Gallywix embodies enough ideals of the Horde in order to let him join, lets him keep his title of "Tradeprince" and all other benefits, AND essentially gives him a friendly pat on the back.
I really like that vibe in Goblin City near Orgrimar. I know that capital city is zone next to it, but I always want this spot to be like other big horde hubs like Udercity, Thunder Bluff or Silvermoon. Same with Worgen zone, that town looks awesome.
I love you so much man. Honestly I do. You are so great and balanced with how you review, you are clear in the way you communicate your likes, dislikes and questions about things you read and have tried. You are the epitome of thoughtful rational thinking and I thank you for it. It's always a pleasure.
i love that you are making stories by zones, for zones like elwyn and other classic zones it might be a good start to get others into the old lore before they hop into cata content!
other than the gilneas line, i can't recall any other races except these new ones with an in depth origin questline. i really enjoyed both of these racial questlines. i think when i did my gobbie, hellscream was still warchief during mop times. i haven't played him much these days, but remember lmao that whole starter. dogfights are much better than bombing runs.
The Horde likes to blame the Alliance for the attack on their ship, yet if it wasn't for then, the goblins would have been sold as slaves. Ungrateful Hordes should really thank the Alliance for the Goblins being freed.
Kenji 1987 They would have been sold to the horde as slaves. Now they have a say in what the horde should do. In the end it really depends what you want or need. A possibly backstabbing ally or slaves
mmm lets finish the Goblin trilogy and go to Azhara I say and yes Thrall keeping Galliwix as a leader doesnt make sence, a theory I read was that Galliwix was so incompetent , so terrible in his vengace scheemes that Thrall saw in him little menace and he feared that another Goblin leader could prove to be more eficcient, ruthless and cruel, well its just a theory, not much, I wish Milda was the new boss, or even Sassy, a nice Female goblin boss, but im guessing that since they gave Gallowix a new model he will stay for an expansion or two more... sigh...
I heard someone speculate about both Gallywix and Greymane dying in Battle for Azeroth, which in my opinion it wouldn't be half bad since both Goblins and Worgen have capable characters that could replace them.
Although, it's quite possible that we'll see him die, new model = important part in the new expansion. We might see him bumped off. He's been referred to as a rat during the Horde Legion Epilogue cinematic, he's shown he doesn't care about the other Goblins, or the Horde that much. He may be the one who informed the Alliance of Azerite, profiting off the war. We know we're doing *something* in Kezan in BFA. We may find out Gallywix has betrayed us, bump him off, and replace him with a new Goblin racial leader.
Sassy makes sense to me. She was your right hand in your endeavours. And since you've got bigger things on your mind she can don the coat of trade princess. Looking at it from a goblin PC perspective
You should do a lore on kalecgos I feel like he is really under represented in wow even though every expansion you look you can find him doing something important.
Nobbel Thrall was attacked by the Si:7 Because the SI:7 where tricked by the Twilight Hammer. the Last Boss of the Cataclysm Heroic Dungeons he was the High Priest of Stormwind, if i remember correctly he was the one that was working for the Oldgods and tricked theSI:7 into thinking that Thrall was up to no good. (i don't remember but i think he stated this fact with the hordeplayers on that dungeon truth be told i did that dungeon with both faction and i don't really remember it much) also to mention that in the SI:7 there where Traitors agents of the Oldgods that where also Twilight Hammer agents, if i remember correctly this is done by a questing line around the Cataclysm events with the alliance on Stormwind. it was explain that it was that High Priest that told the King that Thrall was up too no good and suggested to capture the ex. Warchife with the help of the SI:7 but little did they knew it was actually a Old god's plan to stop the only person that was able to stop their plans of Deathwing destroying the world. i think it is the quest you do before going to the Twilight Highlands with the alliance, you have to save prince Aduin and i think it was there where you find out that the Twilight Hammer got into the SI:7 and that the High Priest was the one manipulating everything in the shadows. truth be told it was a long time ago and with all the expansion after and the fact that Cataclysm wasn't really my favorite expansion, i don't know it if still there soo check it out if it still up, start with the Twilight Highland first questline on the alliance.
Story of the eversong woods and the ghost lands please sir! Also would you be able to do the story of death wing? He crops up in many many storylines and would be good to be able to have his story in one collective video, cheers ;)!
5:42 I think the "two small islands" the journal refers to are the two main islands that make up The Lost Isles (the one where the goblins originally crash and the one with the big volcano). It can't be Kezan as the goblins say they have been sailing for at least several days to get from Kezan to Kalimdor, which means Kezan and The Lost Isles are days apart from each other, and the journal implies that the "two small islands on the horizon" are seen at the same time.
+Jonathan Dahlberg That would mean that they've sailed in the wrong direction for several days (as they were heading for Azshara) as well, so I don't think that makes complete sense either.
Thrall should've had Gallywix's butt kicked and made the player leader of the goblins... From cata onward the player has so much influence in the events that it wouldn't be a terrible idea. Like, we lead an alien outpost and our class hubs, giving orders to people like Valeera Sanguinar or to the freaking Blue Aspect himself so...
I'd love you to do my favourite zones: Eversong Woods and Ghostlands! I love them so much aestaticly and there's quite some throwbacks to Warcraft 3 and other important lore moments there!
I love the idea of a full story of WoW zones! Good luck with it! I would prefer a linear approach, so maybe all of the starting zones, then the higher level ones, maybe comparing pre cata and post cata changes. The ideal would be in order of the patches, or something like that.
Or as I like to call it, "The day Thrall was high and for some inexplicable reason, appointed Gallywix as the leader of the goblins despite him obviously being a huge douche."
For the life of me, I still cannot find any reason that Gallywix should ever be in the horde (I have no problem with goblins being in the horde, but why let him in after the shit he pulled and continues to pull)? Considering no one likes him (especially from the horde leaders perspective) I have a feeling he might be a deposed boss sometime soon.
Playing through something so ridiculous is one thing, but having someone explain it makes it sound like a fevered dream. Only Blizzard could pull off this concept.
I'm surprised how cinematic and well done the Goblin starting area is. Great coverage of this story, glad to know what happens because Goblins have no appeal to me. Maybe I missed something, but do we know how Thrall got capture?
Hey Nobbel! I love these lore vids you do a lot and was wondering if you would consider doing a lore video about the Saberon? I haven’t seen any videos about them at all. If not thanks for the consideration. :)
Keeping Gallywix in charge actually makes sense for two reasons. He is actually nicer, than other trade princes (Gazlowe doesn't count. He isn't a trade prince). Also Horde was in a cold war with Alliance, so having a group, which can get it's hands dirty, is usefull.
I don't think it's a pragmatic decision to keep someone who tried to kill you (or a close ally) in power. You replace him with an ambitious rival who you know you can keep under control, a straw man or a trustworthy ally. Shouldn't be hard to find a replacement honestly.
I am completely amazed that Thrall and Hellscream allowed Gallywix to stay in power as trade prince after he attempted to sell his people into slavery to the Horde.
There are pygmies in Uldum as well. That suggests they have a connection with the Titan Keepers. My theory is the pygmies were a failed experiment by Mimiron, similar to how the troggs were a failed experiment by Khaz'goroth. He released them in Uldum and began working on the more successful mechagnomes. Like the other Titan constructs, the pygmies too succumbed to the Curse of Flesh. How some of them ended up in the Lost Isles I have no clue.
Its something i have been thinking about for a while but seriously anyone else feel like Gallywix got off WAY too easy like i wanted to kill that bastard after finishing the goblin starting zone and lost isles
Ey, nobbel. I am curious if you could do a vid about the Cartels, and the barons and trade-princes of the goblins and what many of them are famous for, as well as famous Goblins. And wha tis the story with the Venture Comapny? I hope you could shed some light on all of that if you have not alredy. Heh, i do wonder if Gadgetzan will become a huge city like we saw in that hearthstone thingy.
So I noticed a quest line in BfA where we have to "escort" Gallywix somewhere... I have several goblin characters including my main so I hope this is an escort quest into a trap to finally take this PoS out! If it is yet another protect quest it will be very sad as I feign death and allow him to die over and over.
There ain't no rest for the wicked Money don't grow on trees I've got bills to pay I've got mouths to feed And ain't there nothing in this world for free You know I can't slow down I can't hold back though you know, I wish, I could But there ain't no rest for the wicked Until we close our eyes for good
Goblins have been through so much and yet are still so hardy and adaptable and I wish they weren't just used for comedic relief in game. Also wish the rogue's sneaking ability wasn't so.. silly. Esp in comparison to the other races' ones.
I think it was mentioned somewhere that Varian wanted to capture Thrall so he could parade him around Stormwind. Can't find the source for that, though.
You missed some voice lines from Thrall. The part when he tells Galliwix to join the horde. It is small but it looked like Thrall didn't say his lines to him.
1:09 That Captain would've been a great choice for a "racist jerk character on the Alliance side". That way he can be the Alliance's Token Evil Teammate rather than derailing Jaina and Tyrande. #unammedcaptainforGarithos2.0
That Admiral is Sky Admiral Rogers, and she would be a good choice for the racist jerk Alliance character (she has the standard tragic "Horde killed my family" backstory).
Nobbel, so what amount of goblins does the Bilgewater Cartel actually have? I mean next to the forsaken they don't seem to have like a booming population.
I'm wondering. When there were only a few goblins on the ship. Even less goblins came ashore. even more goblins killed or made into zombies. Why are there still so many goblins in Azshara?
I'm willing to bet thralls kidnapping had something to do with twilights hammer cult that infiltrated the alliance ranks as thrall was on somewhat good terms with the alliance at the time due to him being one of the shaman trying to heal the world. as for the goblins in sillithus in legion keep in mind that they are mining the equivalent of magic plutonium who in there right mind wouldn't try to stop them as for them being civilians they are not gallywix says as much in the horde azurite cinematic as for the alliance knowing this its as the alliance keeping tabs on what gallywixs troops are doing.
How is this accurate now? I mean, the Cata is years old, Deathwing can not show up there to blow the volcano anymore, can he? How much has the goblin starting story changrd since then? Thank you
Martin Kadlec timelines are weird within wow. Regardless of when they are played worgen and goblin starting zones always take place in the cataclysm. Just as death knight starting zone will always take place in wotlk.
