Shutting the car off and stopping fluid flow to the cooler don’t help trans temps, depending on where the sender is it’s gonna bake for a few minutes before it starts dropping back down

Depends. That transmission should have all the bells and whistles, but if it doesn’t have the right setup it isn’t good for the trans

@@philb5593 friction equals heat, deceleration equals friction, no bells or whistles can overcome that. So, neutral, neutral, neutral. Yes, I agree heat exchanger, larger cooler, bigger fans, external trans fluid pump, etc, all the bells and whistles can help after you make the heat, but neutral can help to NOT cause the heat AND no added wieght.

You put that in neutral at that speed those parts will freewill to 10000 rpms, snap rings will come apart, probably several other things will come apart!! You can't do that!!

@@danhammond8406 I've heard both trains of thought, but the output shaft will be spinning at 180mph+ or whatever your shutdown speed is, while the input shaft speed drops radically, which also means pump pressure and splash lubrication goes down correct? Isn't that really hard on certain parts like the planetaries, output shaft, and center support?

@@danhammond8406 Robert is correct. You can only do this if you have a clean neutral valve body, if not, throwing it into neutral could send the direct drum into the atmosphere in a million pieces

You might want to look into an ultrasonic level sensor for the fuel tank. It can very accurately let you know what fuel consumption is per pass.

They really should not have to do that. The ECU knows exactly how how long the injectors have been open. That duty cycle value is going to give you your total consumption, obviously their fuel pressure is boost referenced so there's a correction factor but this isn't something that needs to be measured directly.

I was thinking that.. a sensor that actually gives a correct result regardless of any leaks and such. Real useful if you need to push the scramble for that last half second when your on the last quarter gallon on the back half.

I put a pretty darn accurate fuel flow sensor in my boat. Pretty good for a idea for a boat that moves around so much in the waves. If you know how much you put in the tank, it just subtracts that flow from the total amount. Its pretty nice, since you can get Gallons remaning, MPG, GPH and calulated remaning range. Downside is you got to remember to reset the calculation every time you fill up.

Unless they are in business to make tunes that are safe for the average joe. If Cleeter wants the thunder tune, he gets the thunder tune, usually with the guy tuning telling him it isnt his responsibility when it goes south!!haha

@FlyHacking I forgot about the switch tank. Maby for the 30mile drive that would be good but the back to back high 7s low 8s depending on weather you think 2gal is enough? From the side road back to the lanes switching back and forth could really mix the fueling and cause issues I would think 🤔. Switching back and forth in a short time spand.

Mullet isn't being stressed in the slightest at this level of performance. Bit of trans temp build up but you won't be seeing 5 mins between passes- it'll be way longer than that. Outstanding-- good luck and let 'er rip!

LVA is almost 2000 feet above sea level, so keep that in mind when you're dialing in your boost.

There's 7% less atmospheric air pressure at that altitude, so if you want to push the same amount of fuel/air through the motor, you'll need to bump up the boost by a corresponding amount.

To keep the trans temps down, run a liquid to liquid cooler inline on the trans cooler circuit, and use the old intercooler tank with Ice water to drag the trans temps down. A diesel engine fuel heater should be up to the task.

That tank had more room in it before you capped it. If you fill it. You will have plenty left over.

Great work. On thing I wonder about is why many of these cars have such poor control of the trans temperature. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to have a much more sophisticated and higher capacity system.

air to liquid cooling has its limitations. they could set up a liquid to liquid system but that's a lot more plumbing and expense

I think you will have that second class beat without much issue as long as you have no mechanical issues. Im sure you are 1k lbs lighter already. Hopefully they let you in the class to begin with.

the computer goes back to normal fuel under 5 or 6lbs of boost, it's not using alcohol to drive around the pits.

I doubt it, if they were going to limit the size of the fuel tank for a true street class they wouldn't be allowing methanol either.

I would imagine fueling is shut off completely at no throttle, but it's definitely not still running methanol at vacuum. You're right on the trans temp though

Sam is one cool cat along with the rest of the crew. I believe you finally found/got your grove in the shop/everything elce you have going on and it really shows the team you have is a well oiled machine. Also a little advice..it would help with temps and stressing the drivetrain out if you start throwing it in natural and shutting down the car right past the traps. Trust me from experience it helps tremendous

Y’all should add a spare fuel tank that’s removable and feeds it to the main tank on the passenger side for events or for testing like that.

Is adding another 1-2 gallon saddle tank out of the question? Why risk it, just increase the Methanol capacity now while you have time.

Man it might be worth it to get a bigger trans cooler if it would help keep the temp down more so when you push it as hard as you can might make the trans last longer I don't know if I'm even thinking right let me know if you could and if it would help
