One of my many favourite parts of this song is the little guitar solo in the middle & the way the crowd cheered once he did it put a tear in my eye because clearly I'm not the only one that loves that bit.
To see this great band play this song live brings back so many fond memories of seeing them in my home town in Canada. My buddy and I were lucky enough to meet Dave Greenfield, just by chance, after the concert and what a great guy he was. Chatted with us for close to a half-hour about mainly music. Marty and I were blown away. The man was a true gentleman. When I saw this video on this site I had to click on it. I'm 67 now and I'm not ashamed to say I'm in tears watching it. Knowing you're no longer with us Dave, may you RIP. God bless you, your family and all of your mates. You were truly one of the greats. Your music will live on for all of us to treasure.
Well said my friend.I only ever got to meet Dave once back in 1987 after a Stranglers gig in Glasgow.Dave was with his wife Pam in the holiday Inn having a few drinks.he lend me his resident card so I could get a drink at the bar.then me and my mate's sat with JJ Burnel having a good laugh.JJ and Dave were really sound and so down to earth.if I could go back in time that night would be it.this so happy memory will live with me till the day I die.😎😍😇
Remember reading years ago that the keyboard part by Dave was something he came up with during the meninblack sessions in 1980. He presented it to Hugh and Hugh said put that to the side and we can come back to it in the future. Dave had intended it to be a keyboard section on the song 'second coming' of course Dave being Dave he brought it back one day during the la folie sessions after JJ and Hugh went to the pub and told Jet and Dave to come up with a song by the time they came back. When they came back Dave said I've still got this from a year ago and Hugh had forgotten, Hugh loved it, went away for about 15 minutes and wrote the lyrics and that was golden brown. Jet said it's going to be a smash hit. Ironically JJ never played a note on the studio version as the bass was done by Dave on the keyboards.
Amazing i uses to see them many times in the George inn pub at norton ST Philips in the bar with everyone else and one time in discussion with each other over many cocktails about songs on the tour they were doing soon at that time just so natural and happy God bless them

@@paddyodwyer7633 Me too, in Zagreb, Croatia, thay played in what used to be the largest cinema in ex-Yugoslavia, all-seating but far form full....felt a bit sad...poor choice of a venue...no Hugh, but they were great...
Golden brown texture like sun Lays me down with my mind she runs Though out the night No need to fight Never a frown with golden brown Every time's just like the last On her ship tied to the mast To distant lands Takes both my hands Never a frown with golden brown Golden brown finer temptress Through the ages she's heading west From far away Stays for a day Never a frown with golden brown Never a frown with golden brown Never a frown with golden brown ------------------- golden brown ------------------------- golden brown
Just in another class I was a teenager when they first came on the scene and they were part of the punk rock era but they showed how different and special they were. Jonathan prigmore
The Stranglers.. Probably the most artistically entertaining band of all time. Go see them they are at a Tangent to the last400 yrs. Like an alternate future derived from a past where creativity had been destroyed and had to be completely created anew.
Saw The Strangkers at Bideford Festival back in the late 90's. Sounded great that night from what I recall. I was coming up on an acid tab at the time!
I only saw the Stranglers once - back in 1986 in Peterborough, so a few years after their peak. One of the best gigs I've seen. Great to relive memories...
A truly great creative and accomplished effort. A stand out in the history of modern music. It is easy to say that now as its merit becomes increasingly evident. Even though this is not of the same caliber as the old days, it is lovely to see them still take it on. An icon in modern music and so far ahead of the featureless drivel being produced now.
Whaouh, j'ai danser pendant tout le concert aux 24 h du Mans, ce week-end. Superbe music au top. Un groupe qu'ont connaît depuis longtemps. Ça fait du bien de les voir en vrai. Merci.
Timeless tune, always goes down well. Well done Bas, it's always hard following in someone's footsteps, but better than singing about elephants, as you were when we last talked. Best wishes.
I used to go see them at the Nashville Rooms in West Kensington, big old pub right on the corner of North End Road and Talgarth Road W14. I only live a few minutes walk away. They were amazing and totally captivating. Their gigs used to be proper mental. Always going off in the audience and the band too. I also saw them at Wembley Stadium on August 11th 1979. I still remember the day as if it was yesterday. What a line-up too. In order of appearance: Nils Lofgren AC/DC with Bon Scott Stranglers The Who. All for the enormous sum of £8 per ticket and I paid a tenner for 2. Stranglers were one of the best live and studio [but for me live] British bands of all time. Never the same after Hugh left [my opinion]. R.I.P Dave Greenfield
I am one of life's lucky people to know Baz and rest of the stranglers! I live in Sheffield,England and have on many occasions had the privilege of seeing them warm up before a gig .... I.e. just me and a few select people. BAZ if your watching this.... THE PHEASANT PUB!! Sheffield!!!! Xx
