Okay let's get this over with. Here are the STROGNEST Ice Types to use in EVERY Pokemon game. It's a pretty straightforward typing to take care of so I don't think there'll be too many surprises for all of you. But who knows? MAYBE THERE IS!

Beartic suprised me, but I’m actually glad since I used one in Black 2 and it helped me in several battles including cleaning up the champion battle after Krookodile swept most of Iris’s team.

Walrein is constantly ranked highly in nuzlockes and regular playthroughs alike, so I think it deserves to be the best Ice type for Gen III Hoenn.

Yeah. It just takes so much effort to get a Regice in comparison to just catching a Spheal and levelling it up to Walrein. And besides, it has a really bad learnset, so you need to use TM's in order for it to be anything good. I sure love my Regice learning Curse (which boosts his physical side when his special is much better), Superpower, Explosion, Hyper Beam and Ancient Power (all of which are physical while is has a mere 50 base Attack). He only learns Icy Wind as his only stab move.

Weavile is the best Ice type ever created. Not only is it badass looking but it’s also adorable at the same time. I wish Gamefreak can give the player the Razor Claw item a bit earlier in the game rather than being somewhat of a late game item.

For Black/White, I did make good use of Vanilluxe. It isn’t a great mon, but it has a powerful Ice Beam, Steel moves for countering Ice types, and is useful in the final parts of the game.

Mamoswine still runs the risk to get outsped by Garchomp. A good weavile will outspeed it even if underleveled.

@@M4x_P0w3r I have used Mamoswine multiple times and the only time Garchomp has taken me out is via Iron Head or Flamethrower or a crit. Mamosine has a lot more bulk than people think.

Froslass was exclusive to Platinum, is found too late to have good matchups and finding a female Snorunt is tedious.

In Pokemon Sage fangame (which was not released yet) you start in a snowy Town and the first Gym being Ice Type. Sad GF did not do something similar in Any of their games.

As somebody who loves ice-type Pokemon, it is extremely annoying how late they arrive. I'm playing Black for the first time now, just got to Driftveil, and only now am I able to get an ice type. And Vanillite is the earliest ice type in the game!

For ORAS, it’s actually Froslass. You farm a Dawn Stone from the reverse battles in Mauville, then get yourself a female Snorunt.

Bruh, Walrein is so good in Gen 3. It' sweeps Drakes team and carries hard in Battle Frontier. The bulk and offensive stats is too good.

How to boost the Ice type: Add a resistance against Grass, Flying and Water or just make Water an immunity all together because Ice is just frozen water. Also I think one weakness of Ice should be erased. My pick would be fighting because Fighting is still with 4 types pretty good offensively. This would be massive boost to all Ice Pokémon! :-)

They should make Hail boost it's defense or special defense too, the same way Sandstorm boosts rock types. Or make it like rain/sun for ice moves and power them up in the hail. Aside from giving Blizzard 100% accurate and damaging non-Ice pokemon, it really doesn't provide much benefits the way the other weather effects do.

In regards to Darmanitan, you don't have to wait to get it at all; Darumaka can be gotten just as early as Swinub in the Wild Area with a Wishing Piece. There are a few Max Raid Dens where Darumaka is a 1-star encounter, some of them common dens, and with the Digging Bros for an Ice Stone, Gorilla Tactics Darmanitan can be on your team before the opening ceremony. And if you have Crown Tundra and don't mind grinding Dynite Ore for an Ability Patch, the same can be said for Zen Mode.

FYI, Walrein is good in Ruby and Sapphire which quite a bit off in Emerald since it is only useful against Drake again, much bulkier and have Thick Fat ability which halves the damage from Fire and Ice moves (Glacia), can massacre all of Drake's pokemon and super effective against Steven's Aggron, Claydol, Cradily and Armaldo. It is good since you can get a Lvl 31 Spheal or Lvl 32-34 Sealeo in Shoal Cave and evolve it at Lvl 44 immediately before facing the E4. What Regice can do? It's catchable in the post game and it sucks TBH. I can battle it during battle frontier tho but I can get the symbols without it tho.

Well, actually Regice is catchable before the postgame. But is nonetheless the worse of the two. Harder to catch, worse movepool, worse typing, slower and his only noteworthy stat is the Special Defense

Galarian darmanitan isn’t necessarily a ‘late game’ option due to the way the Dynamax raids scale to the number of badges you have. As long as you’re able to access bridge field and the parts of the wild area beyond it (regardless of whether you can catch the wild overworld encounters yet), and as long as you’re very careful... the raid den right up against the big boulder in Giant’s Cap can have Galarian Darumaka in Snow/Snowstorms if you go in pretty much as soon as bridge field is accessible. Just to be safe, stock up on a few wishing pieces in case what’s in the den the first time isn’t Darumaka.

As much I love Mamoswine, my favorite Ice Type, I still went Darmanitan in Shield. Granted I got a Zen Mode traded to me, but Mamoswine would have been my second choice. I would have had two Ground types had I gone Mamoswine, but that would be fine by me. Ground is a very strong type and my favorite

Since legendary pokemon do count for this list (see Regice), Articuno is the best ice-type in generations 1 and 2.

I don't know either rock or fighting types next but anyways there are my expectations for the list so I see if I got anyone right Rock -R/B/Y golem -G/S/C golem -R/S/E aggron -FR/LF golem -D/P/Pt golem or rhyperior in platinum -B/W archeops -B2/W2 gigalith or crustle Fighting -R/B hitmonlee or machamp -Y primeape or machamp -G/S/C machamp -R/S/E blaziken or breeloom -FR/LF primeape or machamp I'm not sure -D/P/Pt infernape if not infernape then machamp in D/P and gallade in Pt -B/W emboar and not starter option is either sawk or conceldurr -B2/W2 lucario

In Sun and Moon, you actually can get Alolan Vulpix and Sandshrew in Tapu Village around the time you take on Acerola's trial. And then you can find the Ice Stone to evolve them to the left of the Shady House in Po Town.

Personally I would've said Lapras for Crystal as well unless you save before collecting the Egg from the Daycare Man, Cubchoo can be obtained on Route 7 in Winter in Black and White, and as for Jynx in USUM, Smoochum has a chance of calling in a Jynx through SOS

You can find Cubchoo earlier than twist mountain, on route 7 if you play during Winter. So you can train it up for your battle against Skylar. If you don't play during winter just change the month on your ds since there's no penalty for it in Gen 5

You can hunt for hidden abilities in oras with the dexnav and HA glalie WRECKS in the game, especially as a mega after a few stat raises (i used Return and special moves so if Moody raises attack and not special attack i can use that physical stab). But

I feel GameFreak does cold areas late to give us a counter to Dragon Types which are to strong of a type to counter early on. Later in the games we should have strong teams to counter strong dragons, but the give us cold areas with Ice types to counter Dragons if we don't have anything to reliable

Finally Jynx getting the appreciation it deserves! Jynx was super strong in the first gen. and of course it isn't the strongest mon nowadays but I think it is terribly underrated and unfairly kinda hated by many :/ Spread love for Jynx!

I think they make ice types available late lt game because it’s one of the only weaknesses for dragon types, which also tend to be late game mons. Just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

I'd say we could do fire next. It can then open up to future chains. Rock, fighting, psychic, ghost, dark, fairy, poison, and then steel I guess (immunity) and then on from there.

I would go any Ice type, with the exception of the dumpster fire known as Crabominable, other than Jynx in the Ultra. I actually went with Froslass who I liked for a long time

My predictions for Grass types: Gen 1: Venusaur Gen 2: Bellsprout (because you can trade it for an Onix, which destroys the first 3 gyms) Gen 3: Sceptile/Breloom/Ludicolo/Cradily (this Gen actually has loads of good Grass types) Gen 4: Roserade Gen 5: Ferrothorn Gen 6: Venusaur Gen 7: Tsareena Gen 8: Rillaboom

I feel like Weavile is actually better than Mamoswine in platinum, MUCH higher speed, dark type is more needed for your team, since you already most likely have a garchomp on hand for ground type duties, and ice punch having 75 BP while Mamoswine has to either stick with ice fang, a 65 BP move means that despite Mamoswine's higher attack...Weavile actually does more damage with its ice type moves than Mamoswine, I will EASILY take speed over bulk anyday when it comes to efficient playthroughs, it finishes runs just that much faster.

The only pick I would disagree with is beartic but then again I've never used it before. Prehaps Cryogonal? Fire types next?

The problem with Beartic is that it's so unbearibly slow, and its bulk is not that good all things considered. Vanilluxe hits just a little less hard, but is faster, has better bulk (with access to acid armor) and since it has Ice body and learns Hail plus weather ball, it can set up, recover health each turn and throw 100 base stab powered ice attacks. If it encounters a rock type, it can learn Flash Cannon, and against Ice types, it can set up rain dance and use 100 base rain powered water attacks.

Personally, I normally don’t use ice type Pokémon for in game play throughs. I would just catch a water type and teach it an ice type move

Beartic isn't available in B2W2 until post-game. Mamoswine and Weavile are actually accessible because Giant Chasm becomes part of the main game.

Definitely Mega Glalie for ORAS, it’s easier to get, has better coverage access, and is about the same in base stat total. Regice has worse coverage, as it doesn’t get a lot of great special moves in TM’s and tutors are only at the battle masion.

Because that's the smart thing. Why would you waste time and resources completing the requisites to hunt down a Regice and make it actually viable because his learnset is crap when Spheal are super easy to find and can actually learn good moves on his own? Now to mention how Regice barely hits any harder and is even slower than Walrein, and his typing is worse

I think that the best Ice types for every games are RBGY Jynx GS Lapras Crystal Jynx RSE Regice FRLG Jynx DP Weavile Platinum Mamoswine HGSS Lapras BW Beartic BW2 Mamoswine XY Lapras ORAS MegaGlalie SM Alolan Ninetails USUM Jynx LGPE Lapras Sword Alolan Darmantan Shield Mamoswine. And can you do Rock or Bug next.
