I hate when a non reader asks for a book recommendation, so you recommend something amazing.. but then you worry they wont like it, and they will never want to pick up another book. Its almost like its your job to get them to like to read with ONE single book.

Stop limiting yourself. You don't have to read it in one sitting or even daily. Reading is something you should enjoy and be able to practice it at your terms. Just carry a book with you wherever you go and boom - train, bus, taxi ... hundred pages seem like nothing. You could also make it a ritual to read one to three chapters before going to bed or after waking up in the morning.

I've been trying to recommend books to my mom and sister for YEARS but pretty much gave up. My sister doesn't like reading period, but when she does it's only autobiographies, the "REAL" books I avoid like the plague lol I'm the opposite I only read fiction! Plus for my mom it's difficult because most of my favorites have sex scenes in them and I know my mom would not like reading smut haha she's super conservative. Or they are too "scary" for her (like every Cassandra Clare book, my favorites of all time, she refuses to read about demons). So I'm at a loss. That's why I go on booktube to discuss books!!

My friend told me to read these books after she saw me read The Goddess Girls series (because both books target younger readers. I'm not a younger reader, but I hate books specifically made for people my age. They are so dull and predictable (in a bad way)). I'm reading book one now and I LOVE IT! I'm glad I started the series now instead of when it first came out. Now, while everyone is waiting for book 6, I'm here enjoying books 1-5 as well as the handbook.

Tae's Tea The main protagonists are two girls, named Sophie and Agatha. It starts in a village, and every four years two people get kidnapped and taken to The School for Good and Evil. Thank you for recommending some great books to us. I'm still going through some of the book series you've recommended in previous videos, and now I would like to recommend a few to you, Jesse. Here are a few book series that you might not have heard of, but at the same time, I think you might enjoy them. I recommend the Waterfire saga by Jennifer Donnelly. Book 1: Deep Blue Book 2: Rogue Wave Book 3: Dark Tide Book 4: Sea Spell I also recommend the Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman (I know what you're thinking, and no, these are not rip-offs. In fact, they were published years before Clare wrote her books) Book 1: City of Masks Book 2: City of Stars Book 3: City of Flowers Book 4: City of Secrets Book 5: City of Ships Book 6: City of Swords The Study series by Maria V Snyder Book 1: Poison Study Book 2: Magic Study Book 3: Fire Study Book 4: Shadow Study Book 5: Night Study Book 6: Dawn Study And finally, I also recommend the Pellinor series by Alison Croggon Book 1: The Naming Book 2: The Riddle Book 3: The Crow Book 4: The Singing Book 5: The Bone Queen There are more series, but I think this is decent for now.

I always recommend The Secret History by Donna Tartt, not only is it my favorite book but I really find it to be amazing, I can't stop rereading it! (One time I went to a bookstore and the owner was trying to convince someone to buy it but I thought he was doing it all wrong so I couldn't help but interrupt him and tried to explain my version of things, I could see the urge on the person's face when I was finished to go and buy it, the owner then said thanks to me somewhat reluctantly, it was really funny)

The Shadowhunter Chronicle By: Cassandra Clare. I know it’s a long one but there are very important to me. Much pike how John Green help you back into the reading world, Cassandra Clare help me find it in the first place. These were the first books I read that hit me up side the head and told me about this whole other book world that didn’t involve series like Harry Potter or the Hungry Games.

Sayers or And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie ❤❤ 5) Nonfiction: Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell ❤ 6) Middle-Grade: Fablehaven (book one and series) by Brandon Mull ❤ 7) YA: Cinder/the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer ❤ ^^^ Those are my go-to recommendations! ❤❤❤❤❤

the Martian by Andy Weir is definitely my Go-to recommendation book! It caters for a lot! Its for those who enjoy sarcastic, smart, and hilarious characters, or for those who enjoy the science fiction genre, or for those who enjoy the thrill, suspense, action, and the scientific problem-solving aspect to it, or for those who simply enjoy the adventure of a book, or for those who are simply just beginners to the science fiction genre. I most definitely recommend the audiobook version as well as the narrator did such a great job in giving life, tone and suspense appropriate to the book.

If you want to be able to have your library with you in your pocket I recommend an app called book catalogue. It is on the play store and all you have to do is scan the bar code and it will upload the book info and a discription and you can even note on it if you have read the book or have it signed by the author. I have almost 800 books scanned onto it and I haven't had any problems. It is great to take to a book store so you don't buy duplicates.

I just found an app that you can use to take your bookshelf with you. It’s called book buddy. There is a one-time $5 fee I f you have more than 50 books (which most readers do) but it lets you scan things in super easily. And you can even mark which ones you’ve read/haven’t read yet and separate them into categories. Super convenient. But my go-to recommendation right now is Mackenzie Lee’s “A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue”. It’s a historical lgbtq read, and is absolutely amazing!

I'm not a reader pro, but I tend to recommend the Terry Pratchett Disc World series. If they ask what order to read it in I say, "read the synopsis and decide from there". It leaves it open because every Disc World fan has their own idea of what to read first. But... best book ever: The Neverending Story.

The struggles is that when I recommend a book to someone and then they're like "so you have that book right? Just let me borrow it" and im like ofc i have that book but i dont want to lend them bc you probably destroy it(?) *i know its cruel* and then i just reply "ok remind me tomorrow" but then i just constantly (act) forget to bring the book bc i dont want my precious babies in another people's arm okay 😥

Oh I hate recommending books so so much, I tend to forget all the titles too so now I always go to my goodreads and then recommend :D I also hate recommending my favs cuz if the person does not like it they always feel obligated to tell me how much they disliked the book and blaaah hate that :D online I usually just say go to my goodreads page and you will see all of my favs by type :D great video

Sabriel by Gath Nix is my go to every time. I've read it at least 10 times and I still love it. Plus Tim Curry narrates the audio books for the first three books in the series. WIN!!!! ♡

You can carry your bookshelf around in your pocket! I mean... not visually... unless you take a picture I guess? But there's an app called Libib where you scan in books and it stores them in a list in your digital library on the app! I love it! :D I swear I don't work for them or get anything out of telling people about it -haha! I just really like it. :)

as i work in a bookstore my whole job revolves around recommending books, its always terrifying when someone is like can you recommend a great read in the business section for my 3rd cousin who likes financing. and im like nope but i can give you a great teen lit series! ha we all have our strengths. my pet peeve is definitely someone who comes into my section and asks for a book recommendation but has no clue what they like "do you like fantasy?" i don't know "contemporary?" i don't know "what about a good mystery?" i DON'T KNOW " well then i'll just recommend my favorite and send you on your way. that or they say "oh i like everything" and then you continue to recommend books to them for half an hour because even though they 'like everything' they don't like anything you've brought forth. sorry rant over my go-to recommends are throne of glass/ acotar if it's a more mature reader or truthwitch if it's not, both are fantastic series

Mine is His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novak. Great for history, alternative history, lovers of Jane Austin, and Dragons. The first book is a great introduction to the nine book roller coaster series and I if that’s not their thing I go with Uprooted cause it’s another great fantasy read.

The time I won't trust Jesse's book recommendations is when he'll recommend 50 Shades of Gray. Which is NEVER.

just use the Snupps App to catalog your book collection.... It's great! You can organize all of your books by shelf, and add photos (Such as the front and back cover) to each item, and notes about the book. That way, when you try to make a recommendation, you have all of your books easily accessible at all times.

Working at a bookstore, it's so hard when the reader/customer don't give you much to go on with, and you have zero starting point. I usually different lists in mind for different genre and age group, and I try to keep some popular ones, and some that are more of a undiscovered gem.

My go-to recommendation is probably the Mistborn series... but if I think the person might be intimidated by that then I might also suggest the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews :) but it really does depend on the person which makes it soooo hard!

I have an app called bookshelf and you can put all your books on by either looking it up or scanning the barcode on the back of your books. For those who are interested the app is a pinkish color.

I always recommend Six of Crows. This book isn't really popular in my country, so usually people don't know about its existence. Then I urge them to read this and at the moment I don't know anybody who doesn't like it :)

My go-to rec is The Book Thief tbh although I know not everyone likes historical fiction. I also tend to recommend V.E. Schwab books because they are so badass and fast paced. It really depends on what the person likes tho.

This video actually made me think of a quick story because I can relate to having struggles with recommending books. This past Summer A girl asked me to recommend a book so I asked what gene she liked she said fantasy and i completely blanked. my struggle with this was her english is not super great so some books were out of the question because she would not understand them
