Back at the beginning of 2023, I started a series of videos taking a comprehensive, chronological look at all the DVD releases that I currently own of television shows produced by Disney, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Disney Channel. Well, I haven’t made a new entry in that series since July, despite being so close to reaching the endgame, and I figured that after a 4-month break, it’s finally time to begin finishing what I started before Disney Channel officially becomes one year older this upcoming April.
I’ve gotten three additional DVD releases of Disney Television Animation shows during the stretch of time when this series of videos was on hiatus, so I’ve decided to cover one of them each after tackling one of the only three DVDs that I currently own of live-action Disney Channel shows.
Now that I’ve covered the first of the three new additions to my Disney TVA physical media collection, it’s time to go back to live-action Disney Channel fare for this next installment of the series. Plan a vacation in Boston so you’ll have an excuse to stay at the Tipton hotel, because it’s time to tackle the only DVD release I currently own of by far my personal favorite live-action Disney sitcom, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody! Thankfully, the sole Zack & Cody DVD that is currently in my collection just so happens to be the very first one (out of three, or four if you count the only release of its sequel series The Suite Life on Deck) to ever come out, so at least I ended up with a fitting choice.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Taking Over the Tipton was released onto DVD on July 18, 2006, and like the Lizzie McGuire DVD I covered in my last showcase of a live-action Disney Channel Original Series physical media release, contains four randomly-selected episodes from early in the show’s run as part of the main feature (albeit all presented exactly as they would for TV broadcasts), and a fifth installment as a bonus feature (except there is no VHS counterpart lacking said bonus installment with this compilation). This time, however, the DVD producers went the extra mile by not only making sure the bonus episode was one that hadn’t already aired on TV by the time the disc was released (making it a true bonus for fans who bought the DVD as soon as it came out), but also adding in a short but sweet featurette about the making of the show, with Y2K pop sensation Jesse McCartney guest starring thanks to the featurette being filmed when his guest appearance on the actual show (the first episode included on this disc) was being produced.
Here is a list of everything you’ll find in this overview of the Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Taking Over the Tipton DVD…
OPENING:
1.) Walt Disney Home Entertainment logo (2001-07) (the semi-rare black variant!)
2.) The Little Mermaid: “Special” (Platinum) Edition DVD promo
3.) Meet the Robinsons theatrical trailer
4.) The Cheetah Girls 2 DVD commercial (back when the movie still had its working title that added in the subtitle “When in Spain”)
5.) That’s So Raven: Raven’s Makeover Madness/The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Taking Over the Tipton DVD ad (yep, because Disney decided to market both of these releases with one promo, the DVD includes a commercial for itself)
6.) Disney DVD logo (2005-07)
7.) FBI warnings
8.) Cold opening to the episode “Rock Star in the House”
CLOSING:
1.) Conclusion to, and end credits for, the episode “French 101”
2.) DVD menu walkthrough
3.) Beginning and ending of the disc’s bonus episode, “A Midsummer’s Nightmare” (curiously the print used for the show’s airings on ABC Kids, which overlay the credits onto the final scene of the episode, rather than presenting them during a dedicated sequence)
4.) Featurette: "Hangin' with Dylan & Cole, and Guest Star Jesse McCartney"
5.) Brother Bear 2: “Premiering Only on Disney DVD” trailer
6.) The Wild DVD promo
7.) High School Musical: Encore Edition DVD commercial
8.) Eight Below: “Now on Disney DVD and PSP” ad (yes, you read that correctly: Eight Below was one of approximately ten Disney films to get a release on the UMD disc format for enjoyment on the PlaySation Portable)
9.) The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: “Watch It on Disney Channel” promo
Funny: the Lizzie McGuire DVD that I covered in my last live-action Disney Channel series DVD showcase video featured advertisements for Brother Bear and The Cheetah Girls, and this disc contains promotions for their respective sequels. Interesting how things work like that.
The next (and also final) Disney Channel live-action sitcom DVD I’ll be covering as part of my Disney TV show physical media showcase video marathon is gonna be one that will have you dancing on the floor and crawling back for more.
Fuck. (RU-vid Kids repellent)
