I finished this book last night and loved it. That said, I went in having heard your complaints about it in another video. I think knowing that we weren’t going to get the full context of his past helped a lot. I’m certain if I had gone in blind, i’d have been going nuts wondering if we were going to get anything. I think that bit of knowledge beforehand helped me adjust my expectations and actually have a great time. Friggin’ Mad Max on fire!
Its so interesting to know that this is the least favourite for seasoned Stormlight readers. I'm a newbie, to Cosmere, I've only ever read Tress. And I'm not much of a Sci-Fi fan but I love The Sunlit Man. It managed to hold my attention, even with the action scenes. I did get into it knowing that I haven't read all the other books and there were references that I missed, but I didnt feel left out or confused. It just made me want to read more. So i supposed, this is a good introduction for new readers? Lol. Or maybe its just me. 😅
I feel they are not the target of this book. This book is for someone who has read ALL that has been writen before it. If someone skiped Dawnshard they wont understand the weight of having been a vessel. If you miss the forest short story, you dont understand where the people comes from, what are umbras. If you did not read the whole Stormlight you will miss all the main character as a whole. You need warkbraker to understand some parts of how investidure works. You need the last of mistborn universe to get who are the scandrians and what they are doing, etc. This book is bringing together all cosemere and setting the setting for the second cosmere era (we are going to space!) where classic powers are less important but you need to understand the mechanics because they are going to use them originaly. If you havent gone through stormlight you won't find surprising how Nomad uses Aux to build weird things.
@SergiXUP Sure the main target might have been one who has read all the other books, I'm just giving my opinion as someone who has not read any of the other books. I may not have understood the weight of the whole universe or the importance of certain characters, but I was not left confused. Instead, it made me want to read them even more. So i guess its just me. Lol.
Thus was my favorite of the secret projects. It felt like Brandon wrote it for the cosmere nerds while I was reading, then that was basically confirmed in the post script. I'm glad we got one that was very entrenched in the rest of the cosmere. I feel like that was the whole point.
Huh? ...I thought this was a pretty good book. I think you might have had a problem with the lack of continuity because you're so familiar with the cosmere! I think this book kind of stands on its own merits, and is perhaps some more frustrating to cosmere readers because they're trying to connect the dots.. You can start a new series where the protagonists past is mysterious and not answer all the questions by the end of it! (though it would definitely make new readers curious) Not every book is an origin story. So... this was a taste of brandon's era 4 or 5? More than a hundred years after Stormlight era 2?? I don't know, I think this book might have some appeal to non-Cosmere readers... Not that it's a great choice as first book to get It taste of Brandon Sanderson or anything! I like that "Nomad" thought he saw Kal... Which means probably whatever happened to him, He didn't completely just become destroyed at the end of Stormlight 5. Though I have a feeling that he's going to disappear at some point doing something heroic in a way where we don't really know what's going to happen to him. I really hope nothing happens to Sil though...Dod Gammit! You hear me Brandon, You kill off Sil and I am never forgiving you! If you mimic what happened with Auxiliary.... With Sil... And make her cease to exist... You'll be dead to me! 🫥🙏
