Just read Threads and came running to listen to your guy's opinions I actually really liked all characters. There wasn't one that made me not wanna read about them, however I think I still need to be more attached to Tes and Kosika, they're too new to me yet, compared to the old ones, Rhy and Alucard being my favorites Overall, I really liked this one, I think it was a great transition book, as in introducing new characters, new problems and showing what happened in that 7 years

I really liked Threads and thought it was a great bridge from the original trilogy to the new one. I also loved getting so much of the original characters, especially seeing more of Kell & Rhy. I think their bond (not just with the magic bond) as brothers is a standout for me. In Shades & in Threads, both brothers let down their guard around each other and it’s so nice to see how much they care for each other. Tess was definitely my favorite new character and I expected more from her but I’m guessing VE will give us more as the series goes on, I just really liked her and the little owl of course lol. I’m excited to see where the next book takes us!

Great discussion! Y’all brought up so many good points, I just want to go back & re-read the whole thing again…so many books, so little time😉

Been waiting for this! I feel like not that many people on booktube have been talking about this. I really enjoyed the discussion here and agreed with many points. The original Shades of Magic was a solid trilogy to me. I loved the first, really struggled with the second (Lila, and the pointless Essen Tasch) and enjoyed the third. There is something about VE.. Schwab's writing that just keeps you glued to the page and that was the same here, so I personally liked the pacing. Maybe that was mostly due to me just being excited to be back in this world so I was happy to slowly get more character depth and more worldbuilding. Like everyone else I really expected it to be focused on a new cast of characters with a sprinkle of the old characters but i was super wrong about that. That said, now that I have read it I am good with the direction she chose. Tes and Kosika were super interesting and I am excited to see where they go. Allucard had a really cool full circle moment with his brother. I did kind of feel that Rhy and Kell really took a back seat in this book which would be fine but Lila was 100% the main character again. I do think she was better and did (finally) show some growth. Overall, I really loved this book and had such a fun time with it.

My prediction: Magic must be in balance so Oseron is coming back and the balance to that is Holland. I think, essentially, Holland got his wings. One of the big final battles will bring these two against one another again. Maybe? I actually think Fragile Threads is quite a bit better than the original trilogy in terms of writing but let’s be real, the magic system is, officially, whatever the plot needs. There is no constraint.

I'm so confused about the marketing strategy of this book. Everyone I've seen who has reviewed the book said you should read the trilogy first. Doesn't it already impact the reviews of the book? I think it would be much better if they actually said you need to read the previous books BUT maybe they thought it might impact the sales negatively???
