It's good when they spend all their money on a yacht - it keeps hundreds or thousands of people employed in build and sustains entire industries after launch. It literally puts food on tables. Not as much as directly giving the money to aid, sure, but humans are always self interested. There are many worse things they could do with their money.

If you like the beast have a look at some of their other concepts. About 20 years ago they were designing wave piercing cats that had the features current designers are winning awards for (like the under water lounges and such)

the issue with a LCS is majority self inflicted by the USN. They are plenty of large commercial cats plying the north atlantic as car ferries. Also the spearheads are having zero technical issues. The galvanic corrosion was 100% USN fault. They wouldn't allow the standard industry practice of a electrical anti corrosion systems on the ships.

@@richardthomson4693 That sounds about right for the current USN pinching dollars to save pennies along with the current admin that hates the military spending upkeep dollars to make the Navy WOKE. However, maintenance still is something owners of what ever the hull form Cats or standard hulls should still be inspected in a regular cycle. Just look at standard Yachts that have to have a chase boat in case they break down is it just me or is something wrong with that?

At least 2 of the companies mentioned have all electrics available. You can get a Silent or a Sunreef that is either pure electric with solar recharge or with hybrid power. The old Silent 55 is trans Atlantic capable and probably capable of a trans Pacific run, especially if you add in their kite-sail option. The closest I've seen to an ice-capable cat is the new Archipelago line-up, but since they're in the 47-56 foot range I think they're too small to be of interest to our host! The 47 has a 3000nm range, so it won't be a harbor queen.

Definitely not marina friendly. Even the superyacht marinas. You will be looking at limited spots. But if you are a billionaire who wants to be different....

I’m from Canada and I have always owned either a cat or a tri for the past 30 years or so. Early on we used to say the beam would only be a problem if everyone owned one, and that is still pretty much true in Canada today. The average marina always has a few end slips or wide slips and in all these years we never had a problem. Having delivered cats throughout the Caribbean, I can count on one hand the number of nights I have spent in a marina. Good easy to deploy ground tackle and a capable dinghy are way more important than the beam of the boat. I have also crossed the Gulf Stream and done the ICW on cats, trawlers, etc and while the motion of a cat is different and can be lumpy, the overall quality of life on board versus an unwieldy, rolly trawler is also a positive. The cost is likely the most significant drawback, but most owners take the big money in, big money out philosophy. Personally, I think it is unfortunate that the 30-35’ cruising power cat range is largely vacant right now. There are only a handful of older used ones and they hold their value. This keeps the mainstream cruising couple out of the market.

I would like to know where he got it from, the model makers don't usually sell to the public... unless the shipyard gives permission etc. Kind of a shame, as I would be buying several models.
