i'm pretty sure it's a part of the randomizer, where if you are at a point where you can't progress any further it forcibly gives you the item required

@@commanderdemonno9819 The way logic is designed is that items are divided into "spheres" which depend on the amount of items needed to get to said item (sphere 0 could be no upgrades, sphere 1 missiles, sphere 2 morph, etc.) In a sense what you said is true because in order to get to the next sphere of items it is required you get something that will unlock those new items/checks in logic. If someone got unlucky enough to exhaust every spot before a new item than that last spot would have to be a guranteed item. Going out of logic would be to break through the spheres by doing something logic may not require you to do yet(suitless maridia or something along that line). I just realized I kinda rambled on a bit. Sorry about that.

nearly all the power ups are that and I've realized that sucks, why do we need so many? I think like 10 or 20 would be plenty if it would cut down on the collectibles just a little

@@cameron-yo6zp I mean, usually most of them are optional. Only issue here is that RNG arranged the map in such a way that had the actual useful items in hard-to-reach areas and missile/super missile/power bomb packs everywhere that was easy to reach.

@@cameron-yo6zp Yeah, like Smelt says -- In the standard game, everything is carefully placed. A first-time, casual player isn't expected to get every single upgrade, and you aren't required to get every single one to beat the game. If they ONLY included JUST enough upgrades to reasonably beat the game, then a casual player would have to find almost every single one of them, and the game would be infinitely more frustrating. By having a lot of upgrades that are unnecessary, the game devs were free to hide them in more creative ways, because you won't be stuck and give up on the game if you miss some of them. They only become truly important if you want to flex your skills with a 100% run.

More than twice as many, there are 10 packs for a total of 50 super missiles in the base game. He ended with 105. That's the reason you really wanna change up the item ratio or it gets silly fast.

@@thecountercounter9127 The randomizer adds more missiles and super missiles into the game, like double regular, iirc. I don't actually know why, maybe to make sure you get enough without having to get every item? Though in practice all this ends up doing is making it so nearly every random item is missiles.

the animals know how to pilot an escape pod. its confirmed in metroid fusion when they start your ship for you at the end of the game. the animals are highly intelligent. they know things about the power suit that Samus doesn't even know. they teach her abilities she always had but never knew about. my theory: the animals are the chosos reincarnated. why else would they be on planet zebes, the home of the chosos? why would they be imprisoned in the pirate's base if they were just regular creatures? how else would they know features of Samus' suit, which was designed by the chosos themselves. metroid has a consistent theme. if it can't be explained, its usually because of one of three things. phazon, metroid DNA, or choso bird magic.

I kinda doubt the chozo could've been reincarnated, but it's definitely believable that they could've been super intelligent as a result of them. After all, that's the chozo's homeworld right there, so they're bound to have left plenty of lasting affects on the environment. Though it's less "bird magic" and more just hyperintelligent bird technology.

There's a theory about how the animals are actually aliens that have taken their forms. in one of the Metroid game or comics ( I am not the best with lore for anything) there is a thing called the X parasite, which can shape-shift. there was probably something about your help allowed the parasite to spread or I imagined that.

I highly recommend the game “a robot named fight” and it is essentially a metroidvania roguelike that has excellent atmosphere and feels like a way more fun Metroid randomizer.

51:44 actually, the animals can Pilot Samus' Gunship, as seen in Fusion. They not only survived this game, but the Shinespark bird has a baby, and you find them, saving them again, in Metroid Fusion, and they straight up Pilot your NEW gunship after the old one blew up, during and after the final boss, getting it out of the hanger during the fight and getting it back in for you afterwards. If they can pilot a new model of Hunter Gunship that only you have touched before, they can pilot a pod with controls every sentient creature knows.

The 3 stages of a Super Metroid Randomizer: 1. Aw yeah let’s do this: The stage where you just start and it’s looking good. You found power bombs and Morph ball and supers. Still no bombs though. 2. All hope is lost: You aren’t finding speed, bouncy boots, bombs, or Varia. Norfair is untraversable as you have no E-Tanks. The randomizer isn’t looking too hot. 3. Have you heard about the Link to the Past / Super Metroid randomizer? You mentioned that you might want to do another one of these, and that one mixes the collectibles of both games and allows you to swap between games.

@@thecountercounter9127 I did some research on it, apparently Super Metroid and Link to the Past conveniently occupy completely different areas of the memory, so you can have a ROM where you can access both games via a door/portal if you choose. It functions on the original hardware as well. There was a segment at SGDQ 2019 where they played it if you'd like to watch it go down.

I think the randomiser settings make it this way so that it actually means something if you get Varia before Gravity

This part is true in vanilla, though: The Varia Suit, not the Gravity Suit, provides protection from Mother Brain's Hyper Beam. It deals 6 E-tanks of damage without Varia, and 3 E-tanks with it. Remember that you _have_ to get hit by it, and _survive_ it, for the Baby Metroid cutscene to start.

8:51 Amusingly it's actually a recreation of the Metroid Kraid boss room. Hence the little Mini Kraid. It was, I think, there to throw off Metroid 1 players who'd be like "that's Kraid in this game, Lame" before they encounter the screen filling Super version.

Quite a few games have randomizers now. There's even a randomizer that lets you walk between a Link to the Past and Super Metroid, you can find Metroid items in ALTTP and vice versa as well. Basically it just makes for a fun puzzle like greyfruit siad

Why not? Super Metroid is one of the original speed games and one of the best games ever made. But playing it the same way repeatedly can get old. Over the past 5 years I've probably finished 200 runs because each of them only takes like 2-3 hours. And some of the advanced tech is super fun to execute. It's like comfort food after a while lol

My guy, the "Drunken Sailor" song reminded me again, you really should try out Dishonored. The first game and it's DLC are A+, and there is some really good gameplay and jank potential, with a fun speed run tech called an elevator. It's my favorite game, dude. Plus, Samuel is a CHAD

If you want another fun Super Metroid hack to play with, the Rotation hack is a fun one. It basically rotates the entire map 90 degrees clockwise. Wall jumps are a must here! Super Metroid Arcade: Endless mode is also a fun take on Super Metroid's gameplay. Hope you do more stuff like this!

Oh dude you really need to learn about Crystal Flash. You can burn a power bomb and 10 of each missile to regain ALL your health. Hang on, did this mod add items or some shit...? There are only 10 Super Missile packs in the game
