Symptoms of warped brake rotors. Brake rotors are an important part of a vehicle's braking system that, when warped or malfunctioning, it can seriously reduce the efficiency of the braking system. Warped brake rotors typically cause several symptoms: pulsating brake pedal, vibrating steering wheel, brake noise, and brake pad failure. We often get asked about it and how to check if they're bad. This video will show you how to identify if you likely have warped brake rotors or symptoms that require a further inspection. Not always the case. Ive replaced rotors 3 times along with new pads for each set of rotors, also machine a set of rotors and the wobble was still there. Turns out to be the wheel bearing. A wobble on the steering wheel isnt always rotor related.

Yeah but this shows the wobble under braking. When it's a wheel bearing the wobble continues while driving.

I also have this problem in the video, and it looks like I only get this vibration at high speeds and upon braking, and just like in the video the rotors need to be up temperature to vibrate... im not sure if its rotors or wheel bearing. I have no humming noise or any play at the wheels could this be a bearing/wheel hub?

Wheel bearing you can check by lifting the car and pull on the top of the tire out towards you and the bottom in. And shimmy it back and forth and it should not wobble.

After replacing front pads with Bosch ones, my old rotors started doing this always, even at very low speeds..high speeds was just too dangerous. I replaced the rotors with Bosch and not only did the shake completely vanish, the front of the car dips down if I alot of brake pressure on it. Means it's working. Had to replace the hub as well because it had the rotor screw stuck In it and besides it was very old anyway.

Great video, you should have went further into why this maybe happening i.e. caliper hanging up or possibly the inner layer of the rubber line bunching up inside the outer causing the brakes to stay applied until the pressure slowly releases

Very important to remember to check the wheel hub with a dial gauge to see if there is a run out problem from bearings assembly which may be the true cause of the disc warping- I have a Toyota truck and this is a common issue.

Most important is cleaning the hub after removing the rotor. A dirty hub will give you that runout and eventually that warped rotor feel again.

Never had warpped break rotors back in the day. I have had to replace my rotors 4 got damn times on the current car I drive. They make shit so cheaply and expensive now a day

Yeah, that's what's going on with my Ranger. Had brake pads, calipers and rotors replace just 7000 miles ago. And I'm easy on my brakes. It's being looked into at the shop right now.

Brake rotors don't warp. Now uneven wear, uneven pad material transfer, and a car that has sat for a long time and had rust build up everywhere but where the pads sit is a different story. Brake run-out is not the same as warping. The mounting surface (hub) the rotor is mounted too could have debris or they just were not installed flush.

A common reason: Excessive or Sudden continuous braking: As you're driving along, if you ever are forced to brake suddenly from a high speed, the friction can cause a level of heat on the rotor great enough to cause the rotor to warp due to excessive heat. Many vehicle manufactures do not spec vehicles with large enough brakes.

I heard if your cars front wheel nuts are too tighten it also causes warping when you brake hard, so it should be torqued to manufacturer spec.

I always had a slight steering wheel shake around 60mph and a slight pulse when stopping but not enough to cause a pull. Now years later I'm getting a random bad vibration at highway speeds and the brake pedal gets stiff almost as if the brakes are lightly applied and it usually stops once I slow down. This last time it happened I went to pull over and as I switched lanes it instantly stopped and started driving normal. Could a warped rotor cause this because it only seems to happen when I'm driving steady on the highway and not back rounds or stop and go traffic. 07 Tacoma 2wd auto double cab long bed

You might need to bleed your brakes. One might be getting stuck every now and then you don’t feel it on stop and go, but your motor will. It will take more force to get it spinning

The real question is what causes rotors to warp. First stuck caliper piston which overheats the rotors Second: Rear brakes not adjusted properly. This puts more demand on the front brakes. Heating up the rotors If you are continuing getting warp rotors , check the back brakes always

Hi great video, great explanation, my Hilux steering wheel wobbles a bit and pedal wobbles a bit also when I have slowed to say walking pace (but continuing to break) I get a sensation of the breaks grabbing slightly then easing then grabbing coinciding with wheel rotation until I stop, could it be warped discs or worn rear drums, it doesn’t seem to do it with hand brake applied alone?

I put new tires on my car a while ago. I’m getting this cyclical “whirring sound” or humming. You could compare this sound to what a helicopters blades make in, obviously not that loud or exactly the SAME sound as that, but it’s a cyclical sound just like helicopter blades. So this only happens under 25-30 mph. It’s louder when I press my brakes, quieter when my foot is off the pedal but still there. Steering DOES want to kind of turn by itself almost sometimes. Do you think this could be a rotor? Thanks for vid

@@austynchavalia nah it’s not a wheel bearing if it was wheel bearing I would be feeling it worse at high speeds and it would change sounds by turning the steering wheel which it doesn’t at all. Plus I already checked bearings they’re fine

Yah some of my caliber componets was shredded my rim after a car hit my rear driver side tire and rim been driving on 3 brakes for over a month now the passenger side is worn to metal so I bought both sides rotor caliber pads kit for just below $400 after tax and shipping i waited this long ill do the front later

I just drove a Q7 which i experienced the pulsating effect in brake pedal. Guy said Audi dealership told him its the brakes and rotors ....could it be also air within the ABS system....? how do i definitively tell to correct the issue ?

My maxima steering wheel shakes 10 times worse than that it does it really bad when I accelerate but I know I have a couple bent axles I mean you can see it’s almost like a 10° bend lol and my brake rotors are definitely warped after I got them red hot I mean you can see they’re like bent

So my worry is my runout increased when the brake heats. By surfacing a rotor how would that runout not come right back with heat cycling after you put it out? Seems like a scored rotor sure turn it but warp that gets worse when heated up like you’ve shown is going to get you right back to where you were? I’ve saved a set of rotors like this but I’m not really hopeful they will ever get used again

2012 Ford Fusion. No wheel wobble when I brake but when I take off at a slow speed I get the duck wobble on my body. Same when I slow down to stop. Feels like the wobble is in the rear end. Can’t tell which side.

I have also changed the rotors three times but every 15 to 20 k miles my brakes rotors do the exactly same thing .i even put the drilled slotted rotors but it also didn’t helped me out really.anyone has an idea what will be the issue?

Had an Ford rs turbo in 1989, 4 months old. Drove it for about 6 years. About every 7000 km's there was shudder in the steer wen breaking. Every 7000 km's i became new discs. And or sometimes new hubs and bearings. The problem was always there again. Ford technicians could not solve this problem. Never bought a ford again. Now a TOYOTA with this problem? 😟

My car makes like a whining noise on left driviers side when turning left and when I reverse. Dealership is saying I have warped rotors. Can rotors make that noise? It kind of sounds like brake noise but it doesn't do it when I press on the brakes. Brakes feel good. It's a 1 year old car.

I'm 300% sure my toyota dealship asshole repair guys ( calling them mechanics would be giving real mechanics bad name) hammered my rotors during the rotation so that they can rip me off with rotor resurfacing! But I'm gonna replace em by myself knowing (better than those uneducated skunks) how to do it! I get a grrrr vibration on my brakes at around 50+ mph!
