I have just bought a used Deluge, 2021 with Oled mod, Looks new to me, no scratches or marks anywhere. I updated to the Beethoven community firmware so I have no Idea what the standard firmware is like. I did this so I can get used to the open source firmware from day one. I just have to learn to use it now so am looking at tutorials that start right from the beginning. So I agree completely with @Sineidal's comment! I have started on the RSKT tutorials and have Ron Cavagnaro's tutorials ready to go. Both are excellent but a tutorial dedicated to both an Oled screen and the community firmware would be perfect!
And to think this is just the start... Some of the upcoming features and changes being worked on look just amazing. The Deluge was already my favourite all-purpose groovebox! Now it's just obliterated all competition!
Really glad you are covering this Jeremy. I love your Deluge videos. Been messing around with the community firmware myself and it's amazing. I think j the best part is that it works for both displays, so no one missed out. Can't wait to see where this goes in the future!
I've been using the open source for a few weeks and it's a game changer. My favorite piece of gear, it's outlived everything and will continue to do so.
Oh damn, didn’t realize you could load synth presets into kits now. That’s dope, I’ve made quite a few synthesized drum kits for myself but it was always a bummer that I had to start from scratch (or edit an existing kit). Also all the other implications that comes with that. Super rad.
@@dankeplace Good point. Even though Deluge is Open Source and has resampling, while it's not clear yet if Reliq will work well with FL Studio (my DAW of choice). But thanks for the heads up! Maybe you're right and I'd say something similiar when the Reliq is out. Worth mentioning might be "monome" as well - lots of buttons and open source - but to my knowledge you gotta pretty much build the software yourself. Definitely interesting choices to ponder about.
@@TheBigLou13 I've been searching an end game sequencer for a long time, I think I've had maybe 15? PE Play is really intuitive and fun with a small foot print. I get why others choose something different because of sampler choices. I have a SP16 which is an amazing abandoned piece of gear. I think the Reliq will be around the same $ as the Deluge, I know which will be better value for money for me though.
@@dankeplace Polyend are nowhere near as dedicated to its users as Synthstrom is, I think they would like to be but seem to be chasing the money to expand the business. Synthstrom has had just the one product since 2016 and has tried to improve it, including retro fitting Oled screen, they could easily have gone for a MK2 but chose to stick with what they have and maximise it. Just imagine what the Deluge MK2 will be like when they do release it!
Excellent overview. Very clear, concise, musical demo. The best I’ve seen. Pretty insane what they’ve packed into the Deluge. This seems like the dream groove device.
I'm not even half way through this video, and I need to take a shower. Mine is currently in NZ getting a face life and can't wait to be face deluged! On with the rest of the video but great job going over everything. Red means to the point!
this is insaaaaaaane. thanks heaps for your amazing demos as always, you're the king! I feel like the software side of things is so incredibly packed now, the only thing that could beef up this thing would be an XL version with more I/O (dying for a cue out), potentially an even bigger screen or possible connectable extra screen and maybe some human limbs and a bunch of recipes so it can prepare meals for me. it's great as it is though.
The comment you made about mapping settings to velocity and then using the kit keyboard view blew my mind. Never even thought about it. Thanks for another great video.
Always been curious about this thing but it just seems VERY complicated to use... cryptic might explain my fear a bit better. BUT, I think I'm maybe willing to try it out. Wish it had some more outputs though.
My deluge has never been so good I love my laptop and other gear too but the convenience of the deluge allows me to make better stuff than I make with my other gear also when I control other gear with it loving the new stuff and the cat at the end so cool nice video peace ✌️
Your videos convinced me to buy a Deluge 3 years ago, and I have been so happy with it. And now I'm even happier because my Deluge is coming back from its OLED upgrade in a few days, and I will try all those wonderful new capabilities you showed with such amazing talent. I truly love your work and all you give to the synth community. Thank you so much!
Still don’t even have one of these but every time new firmware comes out I still check it out haha. The velocity thing is an interesting strategy to deal with not having velocity sensitive pads! Reminds me of some old Digidesign controller firmware updates in the olden days.
I think putting the different velocities under different pads is actually a better idea, in the long-run, for the longevity of the hardware (you don't have to hit the thing & risk fatiguing the delicate parts underneath), & it makes you think about using velocity to alter other parameters. the machine never stops being amazing. the screen was a game-changer for lots of us- the underlying functionality was always there with the 7-seg, but now the instrument communicates with joined-up writing instead of red crayon, speeds things up immensely. I have two now, & sometimes load the same song on both, hooked up to a surround system. 🤟
Woo, thank you! I'm going to have to watch it three more times to remember all that 😅 some super sweet features in this. Do you know if clip view allows for follow actions à la Session view, or a workaround to achieve something similar? They're one of my fave features of session view in Live
There's a way to have a clip repeat a set number of times before stopping and triggering the next clip in Song View, but there aren't more complicated versions of clip follow sequencing similar to Ableton currently. It's a feature from the official firmware.
First: Thank you for this overview, amazing all these new features! Second: I am so happy to have this Deluge, its the best I've bought the last 10 years! Third: Wish I had it in the 90ties 🤤
Amen to this. Cool video of an amazing update. Even just Grid view and the master compressor are a big upgrade, but the automation view and a huge load of other quality of life updates really level this up. Amazing work which I’m hugely grateful for 🙏🥰
Fantastic presentation of a fantastic piece of gear! Thank you! All the recent actions from Synthstrom Team, from screen upgrading to opening the code source is a pure joy - there is no equivalent devotion in this industry towards its community, and I have no words to thank enough every one that is involved!
I admittedly know nothing about coding, but if someone was able to add, or even replace, the onboard synth engines with Mutable Instruments synth engines, my Deluge would get a lot more use. Getting usable, good sounding synths out of the deluge's synth engines is very challenging. Even more difficult if you havent used it in a while and forget all the shortcuts
biggest game changer for live performance is you can tweak synth param direftly from grid view without need of entering inside clip by koldimg clip button and rwealimg selected synthbparam with golden knobs .. that’s like HUGE ..
U'r a genius mate and all this in 23 minutes of pure joy. What a big update.. and i'm missing out 'cause my deluge got confescated by the police and they ain't giving it back nether.. no proof of this. Anyways might be able to talk to Ron about this again.. He's been expecting a mail with the continuations on the situation since then. Lol it's been 3 years almost. Loong story short ended up on the streets with covid comming to Spain to work on a hempfarm, and had this with me.. yeah might be stolen they thaught after being falsly accused. And gone.. my laywer kept me on the line for 2 years and charges where dropped after 3 weeks.. nobody ever told me about that. Wasn't funny finding out about that.. they always leave traces. Might really have to take this to court. Still stuck here. Far from home.. yet i have the rest of the studio safe here or at least most of it here, the moog and some guitars and VS 2000 are at an old friend.. anyways things are different here.. loads of corruption and ex criminals hiding all over Andalucia.
Damn... Randomization, Probability and Automation are my favourites but grid mode looks interesting too... I'm just wondering how I shall remember all these shortcuts?! 😂🙈😬 Thanks for the video in any case!! 😉👍🏻
Thanks so much for the introduction to the new features - great as a reference! Love my deluge, I am a huge fan of Synthstrom. The screen upgrade with the possibility to send the deluge in must have been a huge undertaking. This was so much better than introducing a 2.0 version. And now this monster update with the community firmware. This is just plain awesome!
I need to stop watching these “they just added more stuff to the Deluge!” videos because it just keeps kicking me when I’m down about selling it a few years ago when I was struggling financially.
I’m so torn right now! I either want to get the circuit tracks right now and get right into a dawless setup or save up for a while and get the deluge!because it’s clearly one of the best out there. I think I might take the patient route though…
Hey Jeremy i heard in a podcast that at some point you were not sure what content to put out there in this channel; well, just carry on and do what you feel like! Sometimes i really love your stuff and sometimes i find no interest in it; but some other folks will feel differently; and that s perfectly all right!!! Anyway always a pleasure to see something new on this channel cheers
Thanks for putting this out Jeremy! This last firmware has completely overhauled the way I use the Deluge. I hadn’t even considered swapping out SD cards depending on the set. I would def recommend putting this community firmware on a fresh card. It’s so easy to swap back and forth.
From a music production standpoint the deluge is more useful. The octa is an amazing device but I find it more useful as a performance mixer than a music maker. You'll see it in a lot of my deluge performance videos acting as mixer.
@@RedMeansRecording Thanks for your time to reply. I got a lot to think about. Open source is the best thing that can happen to a consumer whilst nothing is happening with the Octatrack and probably never will. But there is something about the Octa that’s pulling me.
