between block(60%), resistances (40-50%) and cp(30-40%) are a multiplication-order doesn't matter,i believe it currently caps out at 90% mitigation it helps to work out your effective health(ie the highest base damage you can take and live, same as effective spell/weapon power for a dd) block is also situational - depends if your blocking low health with max resists can have the same effective health as a high health low resist tank, except healing is more effective for the lower health tank thx for the guide looking forward to next one

This is a good video. I like how it is organized. I think it would have made a better first video in the series than the sustain one. I particularly like the emphasis on what to use based on the player's skill, the group and the dungeon. All too often beginners think they need to go straight for the later game trial sets. I learned using Akaviri Dragonguard, Werewolf and Bloodspawn (which used to be better). It is a good combination for any class because it allows more ultimates, which benefits you and the group. Those are easy sets for a beginner to obtain as well. There are a lot of other good, easy to obtain sets: Seducer, Plague Doctor, Ebon, Eternal Vigor, Fortified Brass etc.. Anyone can do base game content as a tank with easy to obtain equipment. It is not really about the equipment early on, it is about remembering to taunt, block, heavy attack.

Though I did know most of this, it was refreshing to listen and relearn. I've been questing a lot and feel out of practice in group content. Im curious to know what your thoughts are on the changes to major and minor resolve. I know my build of Torugs Pact, Lord Wardens and Dragons Defilement will be over 33k

As a begginer tank, I usually struggle at keeping all the buffs up and paying attention to the boss mechanics all at the same time. I know it requires practice and do you think it makes sense practicing at world bosses? If so, would you recommend any specific world boss? This way I could practice by myself, without needing a group...

Why not try something like Maelstrom Arena as a Tank if you want to practice buff uptimes while still making some slow progress through some content

I was with you until you said Leeching plate is useless. Also I'm a necro so I don't have sustain issues, maybe its on a class by class basis? Necro+Leeching+Bahrahsa's equals unkillable god. I can tank and kill all except for final bosses in trails while the team does whatever. Also, it pays to know how to use proc sets efficiently or you will DIE like a bug. I run vamp, necro, Leech & Bahrahsa's proc sets and Thrassian Stranglers with all attribute points in health. Massive damage while debuffing bosses and with my spirit minder, tether combo I can heal my team if needed without missing out on damage or tanking. The more you know, the more you shine.

Tanking is a group support role and is about supporting your group; typically by holding enemies, debuffing them, buffing your group, controlling fights and adds. Baharas and Leeching are crutch sets which are a fine option if you are new to the game and don't know how to self heal and Tank properly yet. Dishing out a ton of damage is fine for random dungeons, vet dungeons, whatever. But it's not going to help when you want to be group efficient and work as a team which is what Tanking is supposed to be about.

I like your setup. I have something similar myself. The tank as group support concept works fine in organized groups. I never have organized groups. Probably 90% of players do not get to run in organized groups. I prefer the situation where never mind what happens, the tank doesn't die. The group never wipes. A group wipe is far less efficient than group buffs on a disorganized group. Similarly, if you are damaging stuff with leeching and bahraha's, that can be helping the group more than occasionally giving the group +5% damage. Your group support is not needing healing and contributing to damage. Of course, context is everything. You can use heal sets to learn the dungeon mechanics when you cannot rely on your group. The downside is that your tank skill for organized groups progresses at a slower rate because heal sets can make you lazy. On the other hand, what many long time more experienced players do not understand is that many guilds are ugly when it comes to group content. If you do not use group buff sets then only rarely will someone complain, and it won't stop the guild using you as a tank if you did a good job. However, if you die as a tank and the group wipes then often you will get passed over by the guild, so it is better to be "selfish" yourself because your guild is selfish. Obviously, you should find a better guild but that is easier said than done since many of them want experienced tanks - so how do you get the experience? Overall, I dislike the common habit of confusing what is meta for top tier trial guilds with what 90% of players will actually experience. It is most common with DPS characters, where the expectation of how much DPS you can put out on a static dummy is often thrown out as a requirement for a group. "Looking for 3 DPS for vAA, minimum 80k DPS required". When what they should be asking if they are concerned about efficiency is whether the DPS are familiar with vAA because those high DPS vs dummy people are often totally useless and die all the time. Now we see that meta talk spilling over to tanks. Luckily, tanking is more about skill than any arbitrary number. What happens instead, is that people get snobby about what race, class and sets you are using. I lie all the time about what sets I am using, particularly outside of trials where it really does not matter. I do like the Ebon set though because those floating red balls are very re-assuring to people and those goddamn useless DPSs do benefit from the extra 1k health, and it has a decent amount of health on it for my survivability. If you want to go half and half, try that with Leeching.
