Hi another terrific video. I don't have an instant pot unfortunately, and I hate spending the time caramelizing the onions on the stove top. I can't be bothered. What I do is I chop my onions up pop them in my slow cooker on low before I go to bed. When I get up in the morning I have easy caramelized onions. Then I continue on from there making the French onion soup. I hope this tip helps anyone who is in the same boat as me and doesn't have an instant pot.
I prepared your onion soup tonight and it was out of this world. The only change I made , I sautéed the onions till golden brown which took about 40 minutes longer. I also added 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce, 1 tablespoon mustard, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce and 6 sprigs of fresh thyme, 8 onions, 8 cups of beef stock and 3/4 cup red wine. Truly delicious. Thank you so much 🙏 I it weren’t for your easy instructions I wouldn’t have attempted to make it. My sweet daughter in law and son, went for seconds an I gave her a serving to have for lunch tomorrow. ❤️
Fall weather is here and that means soup! This French onion soup is so simple to make and super delicious! Happy Sunday! 💕 Also, look for T-shirt merch links under the description. Thanks!!
I made this and my Asian kids, though they never had anything like it, loved it. Today I mad 3 soups in the Instant pot.(I have 2 pots.) So I'm set for a while! Thanks Flo. Great recipe. I did not have the wine and just omitted it and it was fine without for anyone wondering.
When I was an appy cook at the Keg, french onion soup consisted of au jus, onions, a slice of toasted bread and cheese placed in the salamander then served on a plate. Dead easy to make and serve. A salamander is a type of oven used in restaurants. I don't know what the proper name is but that is what it was called at the Keg. Oh, and it's nice and cool here in Toronto. Fall is definitely here.
Lived in Toronto for a few year at Eglington & Don Mills in one of the towers and just loved seeing the fall colours up and down the DVP. It was my favourite time in TO. Thanks, Adrian! The salamander is basically a broiler.
@@FloLum You will be surprised to know that I cooked at the downtown Keg in Vancouver for a while. I have some of my greatest memories of my life there during the early 90's.
When I worked in a cafeteria. My boss, on mondays, made way to much onion soup simply because it could be used in all types of menus for the rest of the week.
I learnt how to make onion soup when I was 12. Of course I was born in Lyon where we love everything with Onions. I have never used my Instant Pot to cook onion soup. I ll give it a try!
I read that if you cut onions this direction, you reduce the exposure to the stuff that makes you cry. My daughter cuts up onions at work and they don't bother her at all! This looks very yummy!
I made French Onion Soup in the IP. I used your method for the onions, and it worked!! Thanks for sharing. I took the liquid from the onions, added beef bullion and used that with beef broth.
I knew Dude was going to burn his mouth lol. I like the fact the onions didn't "dissolve" in the soup. Your method of caramelizing the onions seems to work great. Fall is here.
I'm with you, Dude - I'd serve the bread off to the side! My issue with French Onion Soup is the "soggy" bread. I hate soggy bread. That's one of the reasons I don't like French Toast - even made properly, the bread is too soggy for my liking. But as you said, Dude, "That's just me!". Soup itself looks yummy!
Flolum... i love the way you and Dude vibe together! I may try this tonight to use up an onion i have! Thanks for sharing!! Love the banking soda tip!!
I love French onion soup, yes this is the season for soup. I love creamy soups too. Now I want a big bowl of soup. Hope you and your family are doing well. 😘
This looks delicious Flo..! I will definitely try it this week. This soup has a high bar to meet, your vegetable barley soup is fantastic and the first fall soup I make.
Looks amazing, Flo! That french red wine (and the white version) are my “go to’s” not only for cooking but make an amazing glass (or 2!) of a sipping dinner wine. Thank you for this wonderful recipe! Stay well! French onion soup! Great comfort food this time of year, so thank you!
Thank you so very much flo. I bought a inst- pot a month ago but didn’t know how to use it. Thanks to you I’m learning. I got one of your cook book but tomorrow I will order another one with insta pot. Thank you so much Flo.
That onion soup does look great and I have to try making some in the future and hope it turns out that good. I hope Dude didn't burn his hand much as I know that bowl was hot and he was glad to put it down. May God continue to Bless you all and may you all have a great weekend.
Oh yummm. I made an instant pot of chicken congee, first time ever. Its insane on the flavour and silky texture. A ma zing. Would one add anything tableside dear? This soup is next yumm cannot wait maybe tomorrow👏👍🤗❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
Flo ! I can’t wait to make this!!! French Onion is one of my favourites. I call it my hug-in-a-bowl soup🥰. also , I made your blueberry pie recipe 5 times this summer. So easy simple and delicious 😋
Oh wow,I gigglel each time you say that lol you're so cute, have you thought about the cross back aprons? I just tried to make one, tried lol. Asian cross back apron,so nice with nothing hanging are ones neck. I for one would order for myself and family. Please consider? ✌🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏
Don't know why I haven't melted the cheese in oven on bread first before. It never comes out right when I contruct it then put the bowl in the oven , and I do have correct bowls. Thanks Flo. I will make this soup more often without soggy submerged bread 😘
I think our brains are just programmed to remember certain things. I don't know why it took me so long looking for the perfect bowls for years before this a-ha moment! 😉
Sooooooooooooooo, who is awake at 1:35am now making her way to the kitchen to make 🍲Onion Soup🍲 #RaisingMyHand #RU-vidQuarantineTravels #October2020 💃🏽
I finally found your recipe in the “elevated” book that I have on my Kindle! Do you suppose that you could add a quarter teaspoon of sugar for caramelization instead of the baking soda?
I think the baking soda adds to the oxidation that helps to caramelize the onions and it’s not really the sugars that do it. But I’m not a scientist. LOL!
i just tried this and it's so awesome! not to mention easy! thank you ! hope to see more instant pot recipes 😋😋😋 ps. wearing face shield we use down here in the Philippines while slicing onions 😂😂
👋🏼 Flo- I love French onion soup but it doesn’t love my tummy. 😞 that looks soooo good! I don’t cry when working w/onions but boy does my nose run! Lol. Sinus decongestant. God Bless you & yours. ❤️
Flo Lum I am certain for me it’s the onions. Now tho, you’ve made me wonder! Lol. I cook w/onions & garlic all the time...hmmm. Yes, we are all gratefully healthy. Today is my hubby’s 63rd bday. 😊 Xxoo
So sorry about the burn Dude that hurts. IceCube ? I'm so excited about the merchandise, wow I'm there although first this I see is an oil container/ pourer, it seems high in price or I'm that old lol
That's weird. I wish I can send you a screenshot. It's right below the description and above the comments section. I'll see if I can send you a direct link. Stand by.
