I had the privilege of doing 20,000 miles in a Taycan 4S and I can confirm it truly is a masterful driving experience. Exceptional ride quality, effortless performance, superb range. 10 to 90% in an Ionity charge -frequently in 17 to 18 minutes. the newer cars have better range, early cars did around 220 to 230 miles in the winter. 280 in the summer. One of the fastest cars I have ever owned but because of its refinement I drove like a chauffeur even though most of the time it was just me! Now, the air vents thing - well it controls the fow of air perfectly in automatic, you set the temperature you want and never touch it again. it preheats the car in the morning, turns on the heated seat and steering wheel. In the summer the vented seats came on. It was just perfect. The only reason I sold it was someone offered me more for it than I paid new after 20,000 miles. So she went. But I think one day another one will come into my life. Still, they have the Macan EV coming this year and that could be interesting! If you have a family and need a sports car to use every day and you can afford a Taycan it's compelling car.
Mike Brewer said when he drove the taycan 4S, he instantly cancelled his order for a turbo S. The 4S was faster than he could've comprehended, so no need to spend 50k extra on the turbo S.
Having owned a mid-sized Merc. for a good number of years, agree this car is actually really good; practical enough and very quick at the same time. Great review also.
What a fun review.! Nicola listening to your presentation style is a breath of fresh air, for you give the viewer a real free of living with it, e.g. truly enjoying it as one runs around. As to the car itself, the Cross Turismo is a hoot. TU. SUBSCRIBED.
i know people get upset about the vents but, honestly... i set mine up once and NEVER changed them. oh wait. I have to change them BACK to MY favorite setup after inspection when those guys fiddle around
nice review of a great car. Can you please measure the ground clearance at its highest lift position and report that here? I'm curious as to the ground clearance just before and just after the front wheel wells... thanks!
Great review Nicola..........But I do miss when car reviews used to talk about the exhaust note, the engine sound, gear change quality, manual or auto, clutch feeeeeel......all those things that gave a car some involvement, some soul. Now all we get is wow, this does 0-60 in half a second, this is how far it will (won't) go on a full 'tank', this is how big the 'tank' is, this is how long it will take to 'refuel'. Not the journalists' fault, EVs are just boring.
I’m sorry mate but the entire industry is changing and so with it are the cars. Comments like this one just become old and dinosaur-like in itself. Learn to change with the times.
But there's plenty of reviews of this car by some of the best journalists out there, and the majority think this car is awesome, but your view overrides their experience?? There plenty of journalists that have been critical of EVs , until they get into them , I'm guessing you haven't ( and you have no intention of ??) Things Evolve , some people can cope with change and others so stuck in their ways just fight change . As battery technology gets better the batteries will get lighter, you can place the batteries virtually anywhere to change the handling dynamics, we can add a sound source to replicate fossil fuel cars . At the end of the day even fossil fuel cars are going to sound boring because of legislation coming in restricting noise and emissions. In 20 years though , EVs will charge nearly as fast as you can fill a fossil fuel car up, have a range exceeding a fossil fuel car, but will be faster and more efficient. Carry on fighting it all you want, but it's coming.
This is a great car! I feel like the transition to EVs is going to be like going from paper to digital, sure one books and newspapers were the only way, now they have been mostly replaced by digital media, but there are somethings phones can't replicate so you can still get a Book or physical Newspapers if you want even if most people use digital nowadays :) So I hope than even when EVs are the norm I can still drive an ICE car if I want :)
I'm not convinced about an electric car yet, it's just a toy without any sound, nor personality. It's not my stuff even if the performance can be astonishing. However, thanks for the exhaustive review Nicola!
Yet most journalists who have driven one love it, but obviously you know better!? Look if you drove one and then came to that summary, I'd say fair enough, but it's obvious your just anti Ev, so really your view is pointless because you've never experienced it but written it off ! It would be like me saying I don't like chocolate chateaux, then someone says "have you had any"? And I say "no , I prefer hard chocolate, it has more substance " but I've never tried it , so how do I know how I feel until I've tried it ?? Unfortunately that sums up most anti Ev-er's , if they'd tried it and didn't like it I'd take what they said with some validation. Until then your point of view is pointless.
Bought a Tesla y for the kids (significant tax savings in Aus )and as a daily - electric cars are prob superior. Instant throttle response and flat cornering. I’m a convert
At the price they demand for it, it better be brilliant. You forgot to say it's the best car you can buy IF you can afford it. Yep, an entire review saying nothing more than, "the rich have it good."
I don’t think it’s too badly priced to be honest. You can pay £720 a month for a performance Tesla Model Y and can get a Taycan for £940 a month. Yes, it’s expensive - but not when compared to similar electric cars of the same size and power output. Either way, still out of my price range 😂
Good little review thanks! It’s not just the Cross Turismo that has a beautiful ride yet behaves like a sports car when it needs to. Essentially all Taycan are like that. It doesn’t quite have the height to go ‘off road’ but normal mode is absolutely comfortable and soaks up bumps like magic. Will also say that I’ve not really gone near the screen where the vent focuses on the air con, as I’ve simply not felt the need: it just works well without it Downsides? Badly designed rear hatch/boot that lets in water in the wet when opened. The Taycan is one of the best EV’s you can buy and as you said: one of the best cars you can buy. Albeit I am definitely biased! 😂
Maybe Chinese cars :) my electric Volvo will arrive with batteries produced in Sweden with Swedish materials mined in the worlds must sustainable mine (Kiruna). The steel used will have net 0 carbon emission. Since I live in mainland Europe it won't have to be transported to my dealer with a cargo ship and it will only charge with electricity from Swedish hydropower ❤️
