What is the meaning of "put your foot in it"?

In my class, I think we use a vocabulary bank. It's the same as a word box.

When I reading books in English, then I write that chapter because I can find vocabulary easier

After what you said about the "commit a murder" phrase the coffee stains on the flashcards started to look more like blood stains
