@roystoliday3624
@roystoliday3624 3 года назад
Hey Bran. By simple I mean imagine coming back to your code in 2 years. Would you understand what it is doing without debugging it? Quite opposite to one letter variables 😁 I find verbose and descriptive names best. Easy to read but a little less efficient pays back time after time because your code WILL need to change. I favour wordy and readable over compact and flashy new techniques.

I know right! They mention a term once and then abbreviate it into an acronym.
@patrickoliveira8705
@patrickoliveira8705 3 года назад
They do, but within certain contexts, specialized terminology is used to define and compress composed concepts, and once you understand it is actually easier to read. This is particularly so in mathematics or any field that makes heavy use of mathematics. Of course it will be mind-numbing before you have the necessary months or years of study to actually know what they are talking about. There are (non-academic) books that are easier to read, and they are adequate for certain purposes, but you won't build an OS or a system for numerical prediction of weather from the ground up by following medium tutorials.
@fitnesspoint2006
@fitnesspoint2006 3 года назад

Academics are full of themselves and believe themselves to be smarter than everyone else. They also feel the need to express their superior intelligence at every opportunity, because what else would they have to show for all the money and time they spent getting their degrees? Case in point: Shoshanna Cohen in the comments above mine, who is likely a graduate student or a recent graduate and has assimilated the typical arrogant attitude of her superiors.

Coming from another specialised field my long held observation on this is that people who are unable to explain something in basic terms rarely understand its fundamentals. When I hear jargon, I often say "I don't know what that is, can you explain" and the brightest people are the ones willing and able to do so. Years ago I suffered under one of those rare individuals who believed he was the best and that the world should recognise it; a group of us got in the habit of making up new words (literally terms that didn't exist) and casually throwing them around within his earshot - true enough they often became a regular part of his diction despite being, literally, meaningless.

I get the story regarding the jargon guy. But in the end what matters is: Did he deliver, or not? If he delivered, regardless if he hired other developers or got help, then he was the right person for the job. Took the initiative, went to the bosses, convinced them, took a risk and responsibility and in the end delivered a solution. That's why he is where is now. A lot of people know what the right thing is but very few want to take risks or take action because they are either lazy or tired or unmotivated or something else. The jargon guy was driven and he succeeded.

That was funny, I know a lot of people like that. The amount of diarrea coming out of their mouths is amazing haha.

Same thing you would see in law field….Lawyers love to use big, technical words that impress their clients who would hand out loads of cash and still feel good even after Loosing a case…

Hi Stefan I love programming but I have zero knowledge and I am very slow typing person. What do you suggest me to do
@sameeranadgaonkar9756
@sameeranadgaonkar9756 3 года назад
typing speed doesn't really affect programming a lot, I've typed like 100 lines today! maybe less but not more.. (I am a full time developer)
@abdelholms3651
@abdelholms3651 3 года назад
What’s your advice and how to start?
@sameeranadgaonkar9756
@sameeranadgaonkar9756 3 года назад
@@abdelholms3651 I guess you can start with python.. just do some online python course for absolute beginners. There is one by MIT open courseware. (I haven't used python much but I think compared to other languages, it should be more approachable. Move to a typed language say Java/C#/Typescript after you get comfortable with python.) This is not how you'll get a job quickly though. If that is your goal, start with HTML, CSS, Javascript. Be warned, this path isn't for the light hearted :P

Hilarious jargon. Funny that you mentioned Etherium or at least I thought you did. The Etherium 2.0 guy was in a Lex Fridman video interview and the term 'sharding' came up. The term sounded familiar but I couldn't remember where I had heard it before. 'Access is going to feed Wordpress.' Well that alone is an eye roller. Good stuff.
