Now we have a group of 7 wearing suits, looking amazing, and dancing in unison on Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live, etc. They are BTS.
I was just a little girl when they were at their peak. My dad helped me buy my first transistor radio in 1965 (space age technology). I was 9. Dad tuned it into the local radio station. And I was hooked. R and B, soul, rock. Still rocking in the free world, at 63.
J WORTHINGTON Not knocking them whatsoever. They were awesome. Compared to the groups that I truly liked are the Dells, then the Temptations. All gone now, sadly. Music like this will never be repeated again. RIP all of them!
KAHN. THE DELLS #1 ON MY LIST. THEN THE TEMPTATIONS. WE WILL NEVER SEE THEIR LIKES AGAIN. GREAT MUSIC CLASS ACTS. BOTH GROUPS. R.I.P. ELDERS AND THANK YOU.
RIP Eddie Kendrick (1939-1992) RIP David Ruffin (1941-1991) RIP Dennis Edwards (1943-2018) RIP Paul Williams (1939-1973) And RIP Melvin Franklin (1942-1995) Temptations Forever ✊💖
The very worst part of that era was that drug & alcohol treatment/ counseling was not a prevalent thing, if you had a problem like David Ruffin & Paul Williams did the fix was to kick them out and that's what Otis Williams did (I believe) I don't think David Ruffin or Paul Williams would've died at such young ages if they would've had more support from Otis Williams when they lost both those guys as far as I'm concerned THAT was the end of the Temptations those guys were irreplaceable whoever came along afterwards it just wasn't the same.
@@victorcastillo9413 That Is True But Not Even There Sons Can Replace Their Fathers. But They Are Great Singers Though Paul Williams Jr was singing his father's hit song don't look back and David Ruffin Jr sung his father's song my girl. No matter what nobody can replace both David Ruffin Sr or Paul Williams Sr.
@@TSS434 these are all of the original Temptations.. I know I'm 71 years old I'm from Detroit Michigan and I used to go to all the Motown reviews as a kid.
@@denisshillingford5891 No Sir, Mr. Elbridge "Al" Bryant was a original Temptation. Mr. David "The Voice" Ruffin replaced him in 1964 after the fight with Mr. Paul "Heart and Soul" Williams.
The Temptations were without a doubt the greatest male vocal group of all time. They could do it all: sing, dance, dress, and we’re the personification of cool. They were the tall, talented, tan, and terrific Tempting Temptations 😊🎤🎶🎼🎵👏🏾👏🏾
@mixed african on the west. They obviously can't comprehend. They think everyone is against them. Some people are just idiots. They need to apologize to you for taking your complement out of context.
Thank you "OLD SCHOOL" people these days don't seem to know the difference between groups and bands. As you already know, r&b groups just sang, and r&b bands played instruments and sang.
@@marcbillingsley359 by the same token, a lot of new school people nowadays don't know the difference between unemployed exotic dancers actual amazing singers 😏😏
I was so lucky to be a teenager when all the sensational groups were singing and dancing their way to fame. If you weren’t fortunate enough to live in that era you really lost out on the best music there will ever be. The Temptations were certainly at the top of the list!!
How anyone cannot get up and dance when they hear these guys is beyond me. Their greatest hits are always a favorite to listen to. An exceptional group with beautiful vocal instruments to share with the world. Best music era ever. We were indeed fortunate to have grown up with Motown, us 60s kids. Blessings to you all!
@@jeffhyde3622Absolutely. Obama was not around yet to cast his scourge of hate, and deny the truth. If he had been here, and not in Indonesia, he would have learned to groove; with the magic.
Epitome of smooth; I love the choreography: the way they isolated Melvin and Eddie during the “fee-fi, fo-fum” part; the way that the Tempts don’t just form a static, line straight across at all, they form up two and two, one plus one plus three, etc., to keep it visually exciting; plus all of the classic stage craft/ etiquette that’s missing from most “drop the mic” acts of today.
@@jessieismyfriend Most shows of this type required lip-synching back then. If you want to *really* hear them blow, and blend, (while dancing, btw) catch any of the YT clips here of them performing live on the Ed Sullivan Show.
YES! I noticed that place as well, fantastic! Paul Williams was responsible for most of the choreography, I believe. You can see how he moves, he owns it.
We sure did. Over 90% of music then without social issues, female degradation, me me me, money worship and otherwise poor taste. Doo wop of the 1950's and the Soul of the 1960's. Most Blues dealt with relationships. Admittedly, some youngsters today are making good music. Sadly, many do not appreciate or desire the awareness of good ol' music.
It amazes me that black artists, professional singers, we're getting their lives threatened and couldn't go into certain venues (at least thru the front door) all bc they were black when white ppl went to these shows and didn't seem too have a problem vibing to their songs.
I grew up in that era and All.. of the Motown group's and singers are at the top of the list for some of the best music ever. NEVER get tired of hearing this music.
They were a staple piece in my home as a child. My father had EVERY album they made. And in his heyday, he too sang with a small group in some of the small clubs in NYCs Time Square, Harlem, Queens and Brooklyn.... And I watched as he and his members practiced their harmonies and steps.... The Temptations were the group they aspired to come closest to. Great memories!!! Thank you for sharing this 👏😊💙
I am so honoured I enjoyed these amazing Motown singers every day. Nothing will ever come close to the Temptations or the Motown sounds. Such memories I have ♥️
I had the privilege of going to several Temptations concert, never once did I see everyone just sitting in their seats, even up in the balconies, everyone was dancing
Gday luv Smooth like a shot of grey goose As a 62 year old this was it No one can touch the original Temptations no one Best group ever Second for me Smokey and the Miracles
I never liked when I heard people referring to groups today as “”the new ______”. There will never be a “new Temps” because you can’t duplicate greatness like Ruffin & the gang!
What an incredible time in the history of music. So many great songs abs groups. Barry Gordy was a genius! Every boy group owes them a HUGE debt of gratitude. They were the original fab 5.
These were good ole' days of real music and some amazing unbelievable good times (50's, 60's 70's & 80's).....it came went so fast....our heads are still spinning.....what happened? It doesn't seem real.
This brings back memories! Wss a teenager back then I loved watching Paul Revere and the Raiders, the Sonny & Cher show. And The Temptations were the hottest thing going
