I grew up listening to the original line up. In the late 60s I became a professional drummer never dreaming that in 79 I would have the honor of backing up the temptations, Jr walker, Archie bell and the drells at the jazz festival in Cincinnati. It was the high point of my drumming career. But father time has taken 4 the original Temps. Words can't describe the loss we have all suffered with the loss of David , Eddie, Paul, and Melvin. They set the pace of life, gave hope and the best music all the gold 🥇 in the world can't buy. Dennis Edward's filled big shoes replacing David Ruffin and took the group to even greater heights. Now he's gone. Otis Williams is the sole surviving original. He's a national treasure. If it wasn't for Otis there would have been a temptations.lets respect and love him for the gift he gave us all.
John Omalley tbh he did sound really off here but u can watch performances here on youtube of eddie in 1975 and hell, even in the 1971 performance of just my imagination he sounded good
Slendus I’m not saying he was bad by any means I’m just saying he’s been smoking for like 14 years at this time and his lungs and voice were still strong enough to hit them notes
@@johnomalley7211 I agree with you. Eddie does NOT sound bad, but on top of smoking he sang falsetto & that higher register is slipping a bit here. But, there's video of him & David live in the 80s & his voice slips to the point where David has to chime in, but Eddie was able to bring it back. I think he could still hit the notes, but he couldnt sustain for a whole song.
They need to slow down. I never cared for the need to “over perform” and get hyped up and speed up getting carried away. Their timing was horrible and Eddie’s voice just sounded rushed and not nearly as smooth as it usually sounds, even in that era when he was recording.
Paul Williams died on August 17th,1973. Eddie Kendrick died on October 5th,1992. Melvin Franklin died on February 23rd,1995. Dennis Edwards died on February 1st,2018.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but wow as stunning as Smokey is, I can never take my eyes off of Eddie 😍 He really inspired me to sing again because it’s so hard singing falsetto and having a soft voice. You can’t strain your voice as a falsetto so for him to sing like this live is stunning.

You can tell Smokey was literally free styling , it was still organic cause it doesn’t look planned or rehearsed it seem like he just asked them cause they sing my girl together and hey 🤷🏽♂️ they knocked it out the park

David Ruffin Had Convinced Eddie Kendricks To Leave The Group After Paul's Sickness Towards His Drinking Problem And Also Being Replaced by Richard Street. Plus Kendricks Also Said That Also Due To The Change Into Psychedelic Soul Which He Didn't Like Also Made Him Quit Too. Kendricks Last Song With The Temptations Was Just My Imagination (1971) The Very Same Night During His Last Hit Song Kendricks Walked Off Stage After The House Lights Dimmed And He Never Looked Back. That's How Eddie Became A Solo Artist
THE ROCK Dwayne Johnson in one of Eddie Kendrick last interviews he said, he never wanted to leave the Temptations. He wanted to do solo Albums and stay in the group, but they didn’t allow it back then.

@@gftrell3152 No, this was recorded in the late sixties, and Eddie didn't develop lung cancer until the mid to late eighties. In fact he went on to record several hit albums after he left the Temptations, on which he sounds phenomenal.
