The Tenptations are one of the best Motown groups. Those '60's Motown songs are great. This is a really good song. They put Soul into their singing. The lyrics are clever. I understand torch songs. I've experienced my share of these sentiments and emotions. Shawn and Trey, you gave very good insight about this song in your comments. I agree Trey that this kind of music has universal appeal and yes Shawn, it has a melancholy theme. Every time I hear a Motown song I'm reminded of the fact that my brother and I were born on the exact day Motown was invented. Jan. 12 1959. Maybe that's why I often gravitate toward these songs.
classic temp song even way better than my girl to me. just before going to the psychedelic phase when Denny Edwards Jr. would join the band.. classic David ruffin
This, along with "Since I Lost My Baby," is my favorite David Ruffin performance - steep praise for a guy who also sang "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." You should listen to the Everly Brothers' "Crying in the Rain," which has the same lyrical trope ('You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes") set to a beautiful Carole King melody. And if you like that listen to the version Richard and Linda Thompson did at Rockpalast, easy to find right here on RU-vid.
Great to see Motown getting reacted to, the obvious Temptations song to react to is Papa Was A Rolling Stone, the full version, other great would be Ball Of Confusion, Cloud Nine and Just My Imagination.
actually the coolest full version totally badass to me is runaway child running wild coming in just about 10 minutes long. I WANT MY MAAAAMMMMMA!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f-AATsBO4cI.html ⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ the Funk Brothers burning it up on this one
David Ruffin, one of the greatest vocalists in music, but sadly, a enormous ego that led to his expulsion from the group. I know he briefly reunited with them years later but ended up dying a tragic death. I believe those early Temptations songs are much better in their original mono format.
