The Terminator (1984) First Time Watching [Movie Reaction] 

RIP Bill Paxton. The only person to fight a Terminator, Xenomorph Aliens, a Predator, and a tornado. That’s one Nakatomi Tower short of perfection.

Before Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast as The Terminator, Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Tom Selleck and Lance Henriksen were considered. Even OJ Simpson was considered to play the role of the Terminator, but James Cameron changed his mind saying, "He's too much of a nice guy to play the role of a ruthless killer."😳🤦 Bruce Springsteen, Michael O'Keefe, Tommy Lee Jones, Sting, Christopher Reeve, Scott Glenn, and Matt Dillon were considered for Kyle Reese. Lea Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jessica Harper, Melissa Sue Anderson, Rosanna Arquette, and Lisa Langolis were considered for Sarah Connor.

When Kyle told Sara about the picture and that she seamed just a little sad in the picture, he always wondered what she was thinking about at that moment. Little did Kyle know that she was thinking about him.

Marian & Joy. I am so proud of you. You recognized the 3 actors from Aliens. Good job.

James Cameron also directed Aliens two years after The Terminator. Took some of the actors he worked with there.

The very end where he says theirs a storm coming and she says I know….Then instead of driving away from danger she heads towards the gathering storm. It’s a great foreshadowing of what’s to come. Special effects may not be perfect however Arnold has enough charisma that he can portray himself as a cyborg and just dominate the screen.

You have to watch Terminator 2. It's an excellent sequel.

Watch the Terminator 2 director's extended version, it is long and a lot of interesting things have been added, lasting 2 hours 36 minutes 8 seconds.

Ahhh the 80's, when they made actual movies and you could just bring a shotgun into a club without anyone checking. 😆

Especially in the 80's. 🤦🏼‍♂️ And I agree with *Joy,* I don't think *Kyle* knew that he was *John's* father, or that he was definitely going to his death. Except in that by volunteering he very well _may_ die. But I don't think he was _told_ he would die.

They didn't have permits for filming. They were doing it guerilla style, trying to knock it out and get out before they got caught.

So many people are confused about the eyebrows, and barely anyone notices that his hair also got significantly shorter. It happened when he jumped through those flames, onto the hood of their car. You should watch Terminator 2, btw. Best sequel ever made and maybe the best action movie of all time.

Mjoy noticed things that were not mentioned by other reaction hosts nor by my own observations after 38 years. The fact that John Connor gave Reece a photo of Sarah is key! Then the fact that John Connor would have known that Reece would be his father is telltale! The story now has a reasonable hypothesis to build a future Terminator Suite! Kudos to MJoy4Fun!

Kyle didn't just fall in love "with a picture". His appreciation of Sarah's son, and all that she imbued into him, was an integral part of his falling for Sarah.

A good Bill Paxton movie (he was one of the thugs at the beginning), is called 'A Simple Plan'. It's not often spoken about but I think you'd both enjoy it.

2:30 Good eye. Yes, that is Hudson from Aliens: you recognized Bill Paxton immediately. 4:16, and yes, him too. And 7:20, you spotted him too, right away. There are 3 actors that are in both Aliens and Terminator. Michael Biehn is the actor who plays the marine named Dwayne Hicks in Aliens. He flirts a bit with Ripley at times, and also agrees with her that they should take off and nuke the whole place from space, because it is the only way to be sure. Biehn played Kyle Reese, Sarah's protector from the future, in Terminator; in Terminator, we learn that Reese was John Connor's father. Then there is Lance Henriksen, who in Aliens plays the android named Bishop (who does much better for humans than his counterpart, Ash, did in the original Alien!). In Terminator, Henriksen plays a police detective named Ed. Other than the line said to him, "Ed, shut up", I am not sure how to describe him, except he was white and his boss was black, and they both worked in the police station in Lt. Traxlwer's office (both of them - and many other officers - are later killed by the Terminator). Then there is Bill Paxton. In Aliens, Paxton is the marine named Hudson, who had Bishop doing the fast-knife-stabbing-between-fingers early on, and later Hudson freaks out a few times ("Game over man, Game over!"). In Terminator, Paxton was one of the three punks that the Terminator encounters early on, when he was naked and needed clothes: Paxton was the leader of the punks and he had blue, spikey hair. And relatedly ... there is Jenette Goldstein, who plays the tough female marine, Vasquez, in Aliens. In Terminator 2 (not in Terminator), she plays John Connor's foster mother ("She's not my mom, Todd"), who gets copied by the liquid-metal Terminator and talks on the phone to John.

THE TERMINATOR was a low budget movie no major film company would touch it. But after it was a gigantic success they bent over backwards for the distribution rights.

Michael Biehn, who played Reese, was Ringo in Tombstone too!

"And, it absolutely will not stop!!! Ever!!! Until you are dead!!!- Reese. Lance Henriksen, the guy who was Bishop in Aliens and a cop in this movie, was in one of my favorite Western shootout movies The Quick and the Dead. Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone, Leonardo Dicaprio and Gene Hackman also star in that movie. It is highly underrated. But, I strongly recommend that anyone watch that movie. Great quickdraw action in it. Bill Paxton (Hudson in Aliens) was also in the great western Tombstone.

You should see the deleted scene at the end when Sarah is being stretchered out of the building and the camera pans up to show the name of the company which is Cyberdyne systems. Plus you see some scientists that find the terminators cpu and conceal it from the cops.

I am glad you’re reacting to Terminator! I am also excited because that usually means you may react to Terminator 2 which is my favorite! If you get a chance I hope you react to some dramatic movies like: “Powder”, “Silence”, “Labyrinth”, “Bicentennial Man”, “Meet Joe Black”, and “Michael”.

This is an absolute classic and you are right.. it is a must watch for any fans of movies. For me, just like with the ALIEN movies, the first two movies are all that is necessary. The first two TERMINATOR movies are that is needed as well. This one and T2: Judgment Day. That's it.

Im with Joy and lots of people didn't have TVs or just had cart Blanche to watch whenever they want like now. We had one 13" TV as a kid and our parents didn't let us watch the idiot box all day every day. It was limited time and this movie wasn't on TV as fast as movies are now. I'm on team Joy one of many reasons she is so intelligent (along with Marion) is not feeding your brain TV all day every day.

It seems to me that Joy has been acting a little more kind of short tempered lately. Anybody else noticed that? She just keeps getting to the point where she acts like she can't stop herself from bickering at Marian. Is anyone else seeing it? I keep feeling like they're almost going to have an argument but have to turn off the camera first. I wasn't seeing this a year ago or six months ago. But I do now. I sure hope I'm wrong about this.

Go watch the deleted scenes - there are two delete scenes involving the police station - when Kyle is ranting about the Terminator, everyone doesn't believe him...except the LT - with the LT believing him and then getting shot, Kyle and Sarah run into him as he is dying....he ends up giving Kyle the keys to his car and a weapon I think. Such an important little piece that was deleted from the movie for some odd reason.

2 (awesome) James Cameron films. Bill Paxton was Hudson in Aliens is also the punk with the mohawk at the beginning of Terminator. Bill Paxton was also in my favorite movie with Anthony Michael Hall, Weird Science. Lance Henrickson, the cop, played the android in Aliens also.

The terminator in the future scene is Franco Columbu, who is Arnold's bodybuilding friend. He was also in several other movies as a stuntman(Conan the barbarian, Red Sonja, Last Action Hero)

While many people were considered for the role of The Terminator James Cameron early on strongly considered Lance Henriksen for the part. Henriksen, physically, would've made more sense. In a post-apocalyptic world where humans are starving and eating rats for food, it's highly unlikely many muscular, fit, and seemingly well-fed humans would be running around. Henriksen's lean frame would've made him the perfect infiltration unit. But hey, it's Arnold, and he unequivocally was, is, and always will be, The Terminator.

Despite Skynet's planned obsolescence for the T-800, it carries on successfully against not one but two more advanced models. Hugely underrated terminator model.

in a way The Terminator is a retelling of The Nativity Story, where John Connor, the saviour of mankind after the End of the World, is basically Jesus Christ, the second coming, after The Apocalypse in The Book of Revelation, where Skynet is like King Herod in the past, or the Antichrist or Satan in The Book of Revelation. The Terminator is like Herod's soldiers who were sent to kill the Messiah as soon as he was born. The Machines trying to exterminate mankind using concentration camps, number tattoos is like the Third Reich trying to wipe out The Israelites/The Jews in The Holocaust, which makes The Terminator effectively a Nazi, which with the leather and military weapons and German-sounding accent is a nod, making SKynet like Hitler. This makes Sarah, Mary mother of Jesus, and Kyle is both a Joseph like figure and also Gabriel, the Angel who Prophesized the coming of the Messiah and who was there as Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit. The film is also a dystopian post-apocalyptic science fiction war, a time travel fantasy, and a contemporary, or historical for us, mystery, action, horror, thriller, dark comedy and epic romance and religious film, covering most of the genres in cinema.

So, fan theory time, none of this is official: Aline, Predator, Commando, and The Terminator all exist in the same universe. The events of Predator happen, the lone survivor retires to live in the mountains/woods with his daughter leading to the events of Commando. The AI finds that this man is so impressive they design their Terminator after him.

The future war was horrible, really horror movie done right. The best movies have a bit of everything. From drama to horror. Kyle dying at the end is a relief actually, did his mission and PTSD is over. I could totally buy he was from the starving harsh future, great actors. Another special thing is that the normal version cut the scene (deleted) that the cop chief believed Kyle and gave him a gun after the Terminator killed the whole station. Little details.

I love watching movie and context literate people actually understand what they are watching, keep it up.

One cool little detail is when Kyle puts the bomb in terminators waist. Terminator goes to grab it with his left hand, and notice when he’s crawling after Sarah his left hand is just a nub. Somehow I only noticed that a few years ago

Terminator is a dang fine movie, even if it has a girl in it. Terminator 2 might be better, but it has Robert Patrick who I love as an actor.
