@Gary P I actually agree. I always loved T1 because of it’s practical effects during the time it was released, it’s darker tone, Arnold being the bad guy was more menacing, etc.

One of the few movies that actually deserves its 100% on rotten tomatoes. This movie is a masterpiece. A true 80s scifi/horror... I couldn't imagine how exciting it would have been to see in 1984 opening night!

I remember seeing this in the theater with my friends, and we all thought it looked pretty cheesy. But we went to the movie anyway, figuring it might be at least dumb fun. Then the movie totally blew us away! We knew right away that this movie was going to go down in history.

@@Willyum123 ummm it's a killer cyborg sent back to kill a woman, has no emotion, won't stop until it's done, can't be reasoned with and it kills innocents... that's basically Jason and all these other slashers... plus the scene with the endoskeleton is terrifying in it's own way. Along with the eye removal scene. A lot of people do consider this horror....

This is exactly why the new movies cannot cause the same impact... After T2 the franchise became so popular... A line of action figures, a pop culture thing... The movie directors have not been able to recreate that sensation of terror and feeling powerless... It just became a standard action franchise... Dark Fate is not bad at all, but it just doesn't have this feeling anymore...

The reason the first two were the best is because alot of effort, time, and talent was put in it. Also they had a little bit of everything genfe in it not just action, adventure, and sci-fi. They also had mystery, crime, romance, and horror.

Yeah I was trying to see how they sold it back then. I was a freshman in High school and my Social Studies teacher had seen it over the opening weekend and raved about it. I probably wouldn't have seen it if he hadn't recommended it. I remember being blown away by it.

1984 technology was barely alive. Back then writing a screen play had to be done the hard way with a type writer or by hand. How they ever made this film is truly remarkable and make it look so real. Good job everyone.

There were home computers and electronic data processing back in 1984. You could write a script on a Commodore64 or on an Apple II and then print it out on a thermal printer.

They did have computers did u even know that first computer was manufactured in 1984 from Steve. He was the founder and the idea sparked his mind for so much from traveling to India and he didn’t want to think was trying to invent something. He was putting and pushing all the mindpower and willpower. Lol, there is just a tractory different of inventing and manifesting that within their lateral prenatal cerebral cortex and bilateral prefrontal cortex…it can usually work with unlocking the basal ganglia and hippocampus that is responsible for the creativity development.

But remember all, this movie was conceptualized in the early 1980's. The script and screenplay were all drafted up between 1982-83. Filming took place in 1983. In 1984 the Macintosh came out, and home computers were never the same again.

Initially I dismissed this movie as a B film, but eventually the nuances of the narrative and the effort made the filmmakers, the acting and the writing won me over. One of the best films of the 80’s, no doubt.

They used Arnold at exactly the right time when making this movie, he just looked the part, any older or younger and he wouldn't of looked as scary as he did. Linda's acting was next level in this, she made you feel the fear she was feeling

In today's world of spoiler trailers, this would have gone on for about twice as long, and when Sarah asks "Why me?" they'd probably spoil that in the course of the trailer as well. This did enough to draw in the crowd, while leaving the mysteries to be explored within the movie itself.

I saw this movie back in 1984 at "The State" movie theater located at 703 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90014. One block from it was made. The rest of the movie was made about 10 mile radius. I'm a very privileged guy.....

There's something so special about this movie. Like I watched last night and honestly I could watch it again right now it's just beautifully made to almost perfection. T2 is amazing too don't get me wrong but for me the original terminator is one of the best movies ever made. Has to be in the top 15 films of all time somewhere for sure 🙏

Interesting fact for (almost) first time director, James Cameron had a/the walls in the scene where Schwarzenegger punches through the car windshield built and moved while the car stood static for the safety of him performing the scene several times, pretty impressive, but he is a genius.

I can tell you I was there in the cinema when it was released and it blew me away. I declared it there and then the single greatest action film and sf of all time. It literally was a perfect film. Everything that I wanted to happen, happened. Flawless in every way and a masterpiece. I couldn't get over the movie. I've never seen so many people transfixed at the cinema. Jaws did the same so did Die Hard and Misery. There are more of course but these are there ones that immediatlely come to mind

They shouldn't have shown what the Terminator looked like underneath (robot without skin) in the trailer because it ruins the mystery of not knowing it's a robot. Initially we think it's a man until we find out it is a robot from Kyle Reece, then we see the Terminators exposed arm and red eye when it fixes itself, finally we see the entire endoskeleton when it rises from the flames.

Actually there is no “mystery” that the Terminator is a machine and not a man because Kyle Reese explains all about the cyborg 800 series Terminator that has been sent back in time to kill the mother of John Connor to Sarah Conner in the first 20 minutes of the film.

Outside it's living human tissue. Flesh, skin, hair, blood - grown for the cyborgs.

Yeah you can keep T2 and everything that came after it. The original had THE score, it had that rich dark atmosphere, it had Schwarzenegger as the villain, it had those badass practical effects, it had the police station shootout, it had those intense chases, the final confrontation in the factory. It was a brutal, relentless, and cold Science Fiction Action/Thriller with horror and slasher undertones. It's exactly everything and anything I could want out of a Terminator film.

i liked terminator salvation i found it underrated. better than t3 rise of the machines and genyshits combined. genyshits was by far the worst. best was t2, then t1. but yeah, i liked terminator salvation.

Yeah, part 1 really shows its strong indebtion to the horror genre, especially the classic horror films of the 30s and 40s. This is, after all, a Frankenstein story at heart.

I watch this last week for the nostalgia and have me from the beggining, its a Master piece, suspense, action, dialogues, even the scene where a kid put an icecream ball on Sharas waitress uniform, and the prhase "in a 100 years who gonna cares?"

I had just turned 15 when this movie came out. Even though it was rated R I somehow was able to sneak into the theater. I was so glad I did! Awesome movie!

it’s interesting to see how they changed the cops voice when Kyle asked him about the date. in the trailer it’s a lot higher pitched but they made it a lot deeper. although i don’t know if that’s something they did when it came out or if it’s just in the remastered.
