One of the most famous shootouts in movie history! (In my opinion.)
On this scene, the Terminator tried to kill Sarah Connor but Kyle Reece stopped it by shooting it with a shotgun and caused a gunfight between them. All credit goes to MGM! Enjoy folks!

Shouldn't surprise anyone. Jaws is from the '80s. The Wrath of Khan; still the best 'Trek film made. Close encounters of the Third Kind. Aliens is from 1986; and is the best sequel ever made, it may never meet it's equal. The music from 80-'86 will still get radioplay in another hundred yrs. Can't even remember the last time I heard a memorable contemporary tune. At least the videogames today are better. But I'd choose a rocking soundtrack to life, over videogames; any day of any week.

Love how Kyle's knowledge of terminators is demonstrated by his fighting style, ducking and weaving and diving for cover, never staying in one place for a long time, while periodically letting off shots to distract or temporarily incapacitate it, and then waiting until the Terminator's good and distracted before he goes in again. It shows us his character before he even says anything, a skilled fighter and a lightning-quick strategiser, who is on familiar terms with his enemy. modern action films would just have him rush in, all guns blazing, explodey and chaotic, the camera would be all shaky, and we wouldn't know who the good or bad guys are. Also love how Linda Hamilton plays Sarah before the shooting starts, looking around, and occasionally nodding in time to the music in a effort to dispel her anxiety.

There was something dark around "The Terminator" that they never could, or wanted, to replicate. Or maybe it was something in the film making. This Tech-Noir scene is a master piece. One of the things, I believe, made this movie so dark was the fact that we could see people getting killed in a more or less gory way. As we go further into the saga, I think the movies became more "family friendly", kind of Disney-like. I couldn't say for sure, but I have the feeling that the first terminator movie was set mostly on night scenes. The plot was also simple at this point. Just two time travelers fighting in a neutral land. Nothing complex like multiple universes, nano robots, and stuff like that... Just a powerful cyborg on the hunting. The movies of the 80's had something darker in this respect. Do you remember Highlander? A lot of similarities. Why those movies were so good? Why was Nightmare on Elm street so scary...

T1 has a very grim, unsettling atmosphere, and is quite realistic and serious. Also, very few people point this out - there is no humor in it whatsoever, and that only amplifies the dark tone of this masterpiece. Still my favorite in the series....
@Boxingbear
@Boxingbear 4 года назад
The problem now is there is a too much emphasis on getting away from the R rating because the studios want to take in more money. T2 was toned down in order to to achieve this and that is why the original Terminator is powerful and dark and the sequels are not. Cameron made a classic and he didnt tone things down so kiddies could see the movie. Many a great film has been destroyed by wanting to keep things on a PG 13 level.

I was born in 1989 and I grew up watching these classic movies on VHS. Amazing films I am a terminator fan as well and I loved them all. This scene is awesome and what I really liked about the car scenes for the movie making of those times is that certain modern films just cant replicate great car chases like they did before. I really like it when the car chases have less cgi as possible of course for certain sequences you have to use cgi but I do love the classic styled real no cgi chases they are awesome!

Man it's all so perfect. The pacing. The change of the music. The very little details which make a great movie. You can watch it over and over and over again. Never gets boring. Nowadays you don't find this well crafted movies. It's all rushed, uncreative and bloated with millions for crappy CGI.

The best intense, action scene ever. The slow motion is perfect, the lack of dialogue is great as well. Just let the scene speak for itself. It's also the most 80's thing ever.

It's all the little details of this film that makes it so good, this scene and the police shootout scene, and the music is just top class to create that air of tension and fear. How you can see the Terminator does get a shot off at Sarah, and it's only the split second reactions of Kyle shooting his hand that makes him miss. You even get to see the Terminator trying to repair the damage caused, later on in the film. It all adds up to being one of the best films ever made, and puts all the budgets of the newer films to shame!

Compared with the torrent, derivative, and throwaway films of the current and recent sci-fi/action genre, this film not only still holds fascination and interest, but challenges and surpasses many contemporary films of this genre. The writing, pacing, story, execution, and overall presentation is commendable. Please don't appreciate what is given, recognize what the thing is, whether be it good or bad, then appreciate the good and if you prefer, the bad.

Except for the meathead bouncer-everyone's survival instinct wisely gets out of his way as he makes his way through the crowd. He really played off the role of the killing machine mission obsessed and paying little heed to anything else. He breaks the bouncer's hand more or less as an annoyance and afterthought-efficiency in it's most cold form.
