So, when you’re at the broken track, you’ll notice a ton of hair bands on the side. Somewhere in the world there is someone who was the first to do it. Whoever that is, props to you. Long live hairband mountain
Sara Hedrick are there? Interesting. Never been, though, sad as it is. I Saw the really tall slide from tower of terror. Looks amazing. Can’t wait to go on it someday.
What if they replace the yeti in the ride with the abominable snowman from monsters inc. and instead of scaring you he just tries to offer you snow cones.
Same here!!! The yeti looked absolutely *amazing* when it actually worked back in 2006. I was 9 at the time it was working, and I remember how fluid the animatronic was. Truly a work of art! It's such a shame that no-one gets to see it.
@@termite9753 back at oid before 1971 Walt Disney world was looking for something like that for Disneyland 1955 1959 and make sure most amazing thing in side effects from home hollywood from Disney company channel VIP tickets tour New oasr awesome picture awards Disney classics collection Disney plus on multiple different ways than most
I was one of the lucky ones that got to see the yeti in A mode and damn that thing was scary... This light however.... Yeah brings the whole thrill of seeing the yeti to almost nothing.
While I'm not 100% sure of the validity of this, I've heard that another reason they are having trouble fixing the yeti is because of a mistake that was made while trying to repair it. The story goes that in order to help secure it to the wall (once they realized the stress it was causing the structure in "A" mode), they poured concrete over the anchor points to better weigh it down... However, they forgot to check that the switch was out of the way of the concrete. They realized the error after it was too late, and now in order to dig the switch out and properly remedy the situation, they'd need to take the mountain apart. Either way, I'm so bummed that he hasn't been able to be fixed yet! What a cool animatronic!
That would be a major headache to fix, having to breakup the concrete without breaking something from the animatronic. Hopefully they fix it one day, I want to see the beast in all its glory.
The yeti as a whole is set in a massive block of concrete. At some point the concrete started cracking. They have tried some fixing methods, one of which might have been additional concrete. However, the way to fix it once and for all and completely involves taking apart the mountain, removing the yeti and concrete, and pouring it again.
it Needs to be refurbished at some Point anyway… it's like 10 years old? it would been wise to make the Yeti more accessible in the first place… and better anchored without being attachted to the concrete… but now they can do that. Disney has the Money. shut the fucker down for 4 months in the winter, and get 'er done!!!
I heard that it hasn’t been fixed due to the fact that they would have to take out half of the mountain to fix it? I’m probably way off but that’s what I heard from a few websites and people
The Yeti looks great and it’s a shame it doesn’t move anymore, but honestly if it began malfunctioning and causing damage so soon after opening, you have to ask whether fixing it would be worth it at all. There’s no guarantee it won’t do the same again.
I rode it for the first time, and it has my favorite line ever. Since COVID and avatar being the main thing, it was walk on, and I rode it 7 times, but I made sure to take my time looking at all the details
I love this channel because I’ve never even heard of half of these attractions! I grew up near Disneyland, but the east coast parks are like a totally different world...
@@ThemeParkHistory I could not agree more about Dungeon of Doom, it had so many crazy theatrics, but most of thr time they were just a hilarious mess, lol. Great Video BTW, Expedition Everest is truely one of the greatest rides ever (the best Disney Coaster by far), definitely the best ride at Animal Kingdom for over a decade (and is one of my favorite rides ever). It's only rivaled now by Avatar Flight of Passage as far as Animal Kingdom rides go.
You can thank Hogan for the Dungeon! Both WCW and WWF thinking over the top characters were going to draw people to watch in the mid 1990's, what a time to be a fan 😂 Thank you for the kind words TheWpack911! It is one of my favorite attractions at any of the Disney Parks and only put Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ahead of EE because it was the first attraction I rode at Magic Kingdom when I was way younger.
@@ThemeParkHistory Yup, then WCW got wise and started the NWO which buried pretty much all of those types of over the top characters, except the really good ones like Sting. EE is one of my favorites also, and the kind words are deserved because your channel is one of my favorite RU-vid channels as well, keep up the excellent content!
Thank you Sdanwolf! I agree with your take on whether or not the Yeti will be fixed. There's nothing else major coming to the park as of right now besides the rumors of Zootopia and The Lion King. Wouldn't be surprised if they announce a new attraction and then the closing of EE to fix the Yeti.
It won’t be fixed for the 50th. There’s just too much going on right now. That ride is still incredibly popular. Even during off peak, the rides in Pandora and the Safari are 1-2 hour long waits. Then there the two new lands at MGM/DHS that will be opened but need to be given time to settle. But the biggest problem will be EPCOT. The 36yo park is in desperate need of restoration and retheming. It is currently getting this attention, but during the 50th there will still be too much construction going on. Add the additional crowds that the 50th celebration will bring, and people wanting to experience all the new lands for the first time, combined with the current packed-during-off-peak. AK simply cannot afford to have this 13yo attraction go dark for a lengthy time.
If they want to fix him they have to take the Mountain apart to a point and they do it. Which would leave the ride closed for a while and that ride is one of the main reasons people go
I’m surprised you don’t have at least 1M subscribers by now. You make great videos & it’s literally about theme Parks & coasters. Like, what could be more entertaining? Love these videos man! Keep it up! I’m always watching 👍🏻
I was fortunate enough to experience expedition everest at it's best with the fully functioning Yeti. Haven't been to Orlando ever since. Hope that when i go back he will be fixed
Using Song of The South was apparently Tony Baxter's idea. To coincide with the theme of Bear Country, which was where any available land was, and to efficiently reuse the animatronics from America Sings! Ideas for a log flume had floating around Imagineering for years since the inception and later cancellation of Western River Expedition.
From what I’ve heard in other videos, it was part being inspired from the cartoon parts of Song of the South and part so that in kids’ minds Zip-a-dee-do-dah would be “the song from splash mountain” instead of “the song from that movie Disney won’t let me watch”
Thanks to Expedition Everest, we have the vertical free-fall coaster. John Wardley designed it because he was disappointed with how long you waited to move backwards on the Disney coaster. So Th13teen and its successors were designed to drop within a few seconds of stopping.
I was at Imagineering on an ABD, and the guy said that Everest would be going down within the next 2 years (said in July 2018) to fix the yeti. They have a plan, but I can’t remember how long he said the ride would be down for, but it was definitely under 4 months. It wasn’t very long, but he said that they were working to make it faster
Aw yeah, one of Disney's best Thrill Rides. The first time I rode it, I was a bit intimidated, but my brother talked me into riding it. Best idea ever.
OH YEEESSSS!!! Every time I ride this I always yell “ITS THE YETAAYY!” In my best Tony Schiavone voice. I can’t tell you how happy I am that someone else made this joke. You are the greatest.
This is definitely my third favourite ride ever. It can’t beat Pandora, but for when it was built and the story behind it, nothing is as unique and it’s such a good attraction. Definitely a can’t miss attraction
I do hope that someday that _monster_ of an animatronic can operate at its full capacity again, for the sake of its creators if not just because "the biggest animatronic Disney has created with the force of a 747 taking off" is too badass for it to just spend the rest of its life in Disco Mode. The head Imagineer is just so damn passionate every time I see him talking about it, I don't just want to see his vision and his team's hard work pay off, I want to see the thing that's got him so excited for myself!
Thanks for these awsome videos, you should do a video on the great movie ride what happened to their anmatroncs after the demolition of the ride. They were awsome and the sets were amazing a shame they tore it down for some weird 3D ride they should have just updated the ride with newer movies
Everest will always hold a special place for me as I was one of the first people to ride it (I am the kid in orange for the b roll at the end). Thanks for covering such an amazing ride! ^-^
Great movie ride please! Also, I have taking a tour of this attraction before, I have to say you are on point with the information. I don’t think the Yeti is going to fixed anytime soon because of the momentum from the yeti, it was literally cracking the ride itself, so safety in numbers. But I do hope that they will one day be able to fix it.
One of my favourites. If I had to list my favourite Disney World rides, they would probably be Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Test Track, Haunted Mansion, Everest, Rock n’ Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror. Magic Kingdom is my favourite park of all time. Hope to go to Tokyo Disneyland some day. Love your work, so in depth.
I was so happy when this video popped up today! Expedition Everest is my favorite coaster! Every time I visit the Animal Kingdom, I go on it at least 3 times.
Theme Park History For some reason, theme parks and wrestling just click 😂 Thanks for the awesome content! Keep throwing in those wrestling references!
Love this ride. But got my head stuck one time in between the two head rests during the backwards drop. My neck hurt for a week lol. Can you please do Haunted Mansion? Pretty please? :)
I remember being a kid and playing dress up games with this ad playing in the back ground. The yeti always growled, and I just stopped going because it scared me so much
I went to Animal Kingdom back in 2007 so Expedition Everest was out about a year. It was a big deal back then. Kids use to talk about it at school a lot. I remember seeing commercials for in on Disney Channel and the Disney Channel also had a segment showing off the ride and the stars from the Disney Channel shows got to ride Expedition Everest early. It was cool to see the giant mountains all around the park. (I'm from a state with no mountains so it was cool to me) I never went on the ride tho. ( I was a coward when I was a kid). I didn't like rollercoasters back then but I did go in the Dinosaur ride when I was there and that ride scared the crap out of me. Good memories...
I recommended Dueling Dragons / Dragon Challenge several months ago, and know its already on your list. The news of Hagrid magical creature rollercoaster has me salivating for its eventual arrival. Keep up the awesome work!
In my opinion, they should have put the drop in the back where no guest walking by could see it, it would have added to the whole experience and story telling of your track taking a new route. Not to mention it would be a surprise for some of the guest not expecting it!
@@mgilkey13 they 100% can’t change it now but even then you’re right. Seeing the drop, hearing the ambient sounds, the people screaming, all builds the adrenaline to getting on the ride. All as according to design though, it really is still a great roller coaster.
It's basically the best roller coaster in Disney world, period, and one of the few that's not entirely inside and yet still huge. If Disney saw the red light as a capmfire rather than a hinderance, Disneyworldcould have had its only Hypercoaster in its roster, good thing Busch Gardens and Seaworld can build past 200 feet.
Another great video. 👍🏻 My last trip to AK I rode this five times and man it was fun. Great story and attraction. Some of the most in depth theming you’ll experience, which unfortunately doesn’t get the attention it deserves in the hustle and bustle of WDW. Joe Rohde is an enigma. Still looking forward to a Poseidon’s Fury video Jack! 👍🏻
Awsome! You got yourself a new subscriber. I am not sure if you would do two disney videos in a row but I think that haunted mansion or space mountain would be a cool video. Great work guys!!
This ride has a special place for me and is the reason i always dreamed being an imagineer. It is the ride that started all, that gave me the curiosity to search for another video, then a POV video because i didn't even knew what it meant back then and because i'm french x) ! So, sorry if i make mistakes in my english. This ride is incredible and a major statement that W.Disney is still right, mixing technology and art can give some pretty amazing things. The only ride in the world i would compareto this one is Space Mountain De La Terre à La Lune, not the other "versions". They both have the best : Story, Theming, Music, Environement, Placement, Colors, Sensations, ... Maybe i'm a fanboy for these two but you can't take the fact they are some of the best coasters in any park in the world, just by their catchy names. I've never ridden on Expedition Everest and it's a dream that WILL come true someday. I hope... Reality is i'm not good in math, i can draw some decent things and make 3D models / Layouts and everything that goes behind a ride in Nolimits 2. But being an imagineer might be something i'll never do. I respect these people, they are my models, they are everything i want to be one day. Someone that left a print in the world of Roller Coasters and with that, in a Disney Park. Thank you for this video, it reminds me why i love making rides and why i would love to ride even more. Really, thank you.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been added to the list, we will be covering Alien Encounter sometime later this year. Thank you for the suggestion tankart150.
I can't even see him, even with the lights, every time I'm like "dang I missed it again, it's so dark" I try because I want to see it but can't make him out. The light needs to be changed, it needs to be slowed there, something if they aren't going to make him jump out
The construction photos brings back memories I was 6 when the ride was being built and I remember it having the shape of Everest but completely steel which was weird as a kid I unfortunately didn’t go back to Walt Disney world until 2015 11 years after the last time I was there
I've Might Go On Expedition Everest Rollercoaster At Disney's Animal Kingdom At Walt Disney World Resort In Florida One Day. Thanks Theme Park History Mate. X
For me, it’s incomprehensible that Disney keeps on investing in Magic Kingdom copies at other parts of the world while neglecting the parks that made their fame and prestige, at home. I think they probably could make the same money expanding and improving their local domain, and having fewer international parks. Just make the american resorts worth the trip, and guests will come! ...This is the best attraction at Animal Kingdom and it’s been broken for so long! EPCOT is another example. It has been in an embarrassing state, with literally abandoned and/or underused buildings. Poor EPCOT...
it’s ashamed the yeti is such a shadow of its former self. maybe one day we will see it’s glory again. regardless, still an awesome coaster and one of the best Disney has ever made! you should do theme park history of journey to the center of the earth!!
I went on this yesterday and I screamed, "Disco yeti!!" when we passed by the not-moving yeti. (Oh and there are so many hairties next to where you stop at the "broken track" I was so confused at the huge amount of hairties.) Also, I was a kid when Expedition Everest first opened so I remember, even while vaguely, the yeti moving.
Had to include one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step into the squared circle. Now if I can only find a way to include Glacier in a future video...
I mean honestly for a ride that has been open for almost 13 years and no major refurbishment, it still runs really smooth. I haven't been to Disney World since I was 4 (17 years ago) and I just finished my Fall 2018 Disney College Program and one night I went to Animal Kingdom by myself and I rode this ride 10 times in a row 😂 it was amazing and the last 2 times were super painful because it was a huge downpour and me and the other guests were saying "ow" because of the rain hitting us so hard at 50mph but everyone was dying laughing it was such an amazing experience!
The supposedly last report of the Yeti working was sometime in 2009, but we couldn't confirm it as it was just posts on forums and no actual footage. If it was still moving in 2008 it was most likely in a limited capacity.
I went with my family (and best mate) to Disneyworld in September 2007, it was working 100% perfect then. The movement was so realistic, when his hand reached towards the train, you actually thought he'd grab it! Having been twice since (2011, 2013), it saddens me to see how they now do the Yeti movement. I still hold out the hope that he will be fixed one day, and back to all his glory!
