PRIM-AND-PROPER...!" That's got to be the funniest rant ever 😂😂😂 The way he integrates namby-pamby, hoity-toity and wishy-washy into one unholy mess of meaningless words is hilarious!
I often wondered if his rants were off the cuff or written. I can imagine the script just saying [grimm rants] and getting David Haig to improvise so it sounded more real and natural. They may have written his first one and then every other time improvise. They were brilliant.
I couldn't wait for this to come on every week and when it did, I absolutely couldn't wait for Inspector Grim's hilarious rants. You can hear the Ben Elton connotations in them and David Haig delivered them so perfectly. - wonderful stuff. Inspector 'Raymond' Fowler was utterly hilarious too. A very underrated comedy, if you ask me. Good times!!!

How the whole cast didn't crack up when Grim was having one of his rants I'll never know. 😂 Very funny and brilliantly done by David Haig. All this compilation is missing is the clip where he's trying to work the computer and is getting extremely frustrated until DC Kray tells him to plug it in. 😂😂
An absolute standout character, perfectly cast and wonderfully written. I laughed out loud at the ‘nick them, lock them up and throw away the door’ line. It must actually be quite hard for an actor to rant garbled English and deliberately get it wrong.
Went to a genuine Senior Officers Mess dinner and the Chief Constable in his speech did an absolute blinding impression of DI Grimm- went down a storm 🤣

In my humble opinion one of the top comedy programmes of the past years. Fowler - brilliant, Goody- brilliant , Habib - brilliant, Dawkins lovely and brilliant, Kray - priceless Doyle, Gladstone etcetc , but Grim put the cream on all the comedy and bits of business! Wonderful entertainment. Set against a lot of the drivel of 2019/20 it’s still a gem! In trying to get the spelling of Habib, correct, I chanced upon an answer(on a BBC page) as to why the show was cancelled. It was in the form of a review. It was noted by the individual who penned the “review” twaddle, that Ben Elton was trying to recreate a Dads Army type show, and it didn’t work! Well whoever penned that thought needed to return to wherever he or she came from and retrain for another job! It was funny, and if that was what BE wanted to do he succeeded in spades. Save me from reviewers and commentators!
Absolutely spot on. It was beautifully written and wonderfully acted. Some of the comedy timing was just perfect. And as for Grim, he was indeed the icing on the cake. He really made that role his own.

Rowan Atkinson is masterful at reacting facially, its an important nuance in making this and his interactions in Blackadder so good. The weary look of having to contend with a stream of borderline insane morons. (4.04)
From what I’ve read Roman Atkinson apparently has total control over his dead pan look. I seem to remember someone on the Blackadder set commenting that Rowan was the only one who never succumbed to corpsing
Only thing funnier than this in this show would be the outtakes for these scenes. Probably weren't any though. He was so good at it! Then the irony of him going on to play Mr. Wilson in Downtown Abbey🤣🤣🤣🤣 all "HOITY TOITY LAH-DEE DAH DEE, KNOW-IT-ALL STIFF-UPPER-LIP STIFF-UPPER-HOUSEMASTER... PRIM-AND-PROPER!!! "" 🤣
Absolutely fantastic! I can so relate to Inspector Grim as I feel exactly the same in many cases. I can’t stand fannying about with namby-pamby, hoity-toity, looney lefty claptrap crap!
