Another beautiful rendition by these lovely ladies, Sheila, Valerie and Fayette, displaying their perfectly crafted vocals and choreography which made this song a show-stopper in the 70's.
They were appreciated around the world more then any other group at the time. They are amazing. Love them. And they always had the best bands backing them up.
My favorite version of this classic! Those harmonies were *angelic* Fayette was KILLING IT with that Soprano, what a voice. I love how Valerie delivered her part, so dramatic ❤ And Sheila had a beautiful voice, that tone was everything. Let's not forget about the coreography! Those hand movements were so delicate, and perfectly done. That ending was like opening the gates of heaven! *THIS IS THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE EVER*
Absolutely agree with you: it's a triumphant rendition of this song. .No one can touch it. And the Three Degrees at their magnificent peak! Three amazing voices and three beautiful women, three splendid examples of womanhood. Valerie's harmonies are so unusual--I've never heard anyone harmonize like her or them--they have their own unique, inimitable sound. This recording is also a great tribute to the lushness and luxury of the Philly sound at its glorious best. They are like three immortals on that stage--I always come back to this video of them and it never ceases to astonish me. I've been hooked on their sound since I first heard it in my early teens--a heavy rocker at the time--coming from a transistor radio on a building site where I was stacking bricks. I looked at the radio and thought: Omigod, who is THAT? They epitomize the phrase "a class act."
Goodness Sheila Ferguson ❤... those puppies are sitting perfectly in that dress… Absolutely gorgeous... I'm sure all the men in the audience were in love. Three goddesses with great talent. Fayette is super soprano... singing all up and down the scale OMG. VALERIE is gorgeous looking like a black Farrah Fawcett and singing for the Gods ❤❤❤
These were the real girl groups with perfect vocals, perfect appereance, style and glamour. And just still nice to watch and listen to after that many years. Timeless beauties.. wow!!!! I wish we could bring back those lovely times...
True, though this girlband did a great job as well! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aAV534dLBCo.html (the song is sang at the end of the video)
Wow! What an awesome performance, these ladies had crazy talent, class and sex appeal. They look fabulous in those fitted gowns and can still do the choreography and keep their harmonies tight. I have become a big fan of The Three Degrees.
the three degrees are prince charles favorite group iv liked them back from the 70 es and still like them now how maney bands or groups singers of this generation...honestly can last as long as the three degrees they are quality great fantastic.....
I thought the 3 Degrees were a one-hit-wonder--until I saw this. The best rendition ever! I love the Supremes also, but these three women should have been equally famous in the US. (I see they were popular in Japan!) :) 127,562 views--I think I make up 100,000 of those!! Thank you for sharing!!
Hardly. The three degrees had a very success string of charting hits their entire career but sadly they were more successful in Europe than at home in the USA.
Remarkable. This goes to show that the Three Degrees were all supremely talented and oozing with class. Obviously Sheila normally fronted the group, but it's great to see Fayette and Valerie get their moment in the spotlight. Why can't we see the likes of this nowadays; it can't be a sudden vacuum of good singers surely? Times and fashions change but, why oh why can we not see the quality available instead of the, often, soulless garbage that gets trotted out by the record company moguls of today. It's just starving our younger generations who are fed a diet of cr*p, and are so used to it now that they wouldn't recognise brilliance if it bit them on the butt cheeks.
I agree with you Michelle, there are no groups, men or women, like this today. Soooo much class, beauty and wonderful, magnificent unmatched voices . I appreciate beyond words what these vastly talented ladies have contributed to music. Our Grand Creator KNEW what He was doing when He gave us the Three Degrees. This is truly enjoyable....
Gosh, weren't these ladies just so graceful. I absolutely loved to watch them perform, during the '70s and beyond. They could sing in perfect harmony and dance to boot, beautiful ladies!
I'm not going to compare this performance to other artists renditions or critically rate this according to my personal likings. Behold, The Three Degrees performing MacArthur Park. Ladies, you put on a beautiful and entertaining performance here. We will probably never see the likes of this caliber of entertainment again in our lifetime. Thanks Psimberg for posting this.
This performance is sublime. The choreography and the aesthetics combine with the natural and believable spirit of the performance to just take the outstanding vocals and create something very special.
I must admit I was more attracted to both the other women; Valerie for her face and her low vocals and Shirley because she was the most sexy black woman I 'd ever seen :p I can see a resemblance with Nubians in Fayette and I can appreciate her beauty more at this moment in time :) They were an awesome group and I love their music still. Just saw Shirley on a BBC Quiz. She now lives on Mallorca and she still looks fantastic for her age, still really incredibly beautiful and vivacious too!
Never got the recognition here in the US that they deserved . I started following them when background singers for Englebert Humperdinck and then seeing them in the movie “ The French Connection “ !
The Three Degrees are one of pop music's greatest forgotten groups - better than the Supremes, the Ronettes or any disco diva. Once again, the record-buying public missed the boat. No matter; we love you, Fayette, Sheila and Valerie!
The most beautiful group in my opinion. Who is the best is a difficult one to call. I think groups like the Supremes had better material to work with generally.
I agree with you that they are a great group, my favourite girl group actually, and better than the Supremes. But forgotten? I don't think so, they are often still played on radio stations in the UK. My gripe with the radio though, is that they always seem to play their most famous hits like When will I see you again, or Take good care of yourself. Wish they'd play some of their other hits as 3D do have a huge back catalogue.
Ive been listening to this group and introducing youngsters to The Three Degrees since I first heard them at a South Florida Disco in 1974. Ive got all their LPs and 45's and still play them on my Stereo system that Ive had for almost 50 years!!! And their sound on Reel To Reel Tape!!
I did with my trio.. in the late 70's and early eighties.. 3 part harmony and then we became 4 in the eighties we loved singing a medley.of their songs.. Year of Decision, Woman in Love and of course Dirty Old Man.. The 3 Degrees were our heroines..another one of our faves was Take Could Care of Yourself and we slottrd it in now and again.. i have to say i loved all of their songs and their choreography was awesome..X
+ian bradley When you see her, please tell her that her voice, music and performance touches my heart. I discovered the Three Degrees when I was 15 years old in 1976 and I since then I am a fan. Love from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
I was only 8, 9 years old when I first heard them. And in elementary school I along with two other girls, would playback their songs. We were three of the four tan girls in our class in a wonderful school in Amsterdam and we loved their elegant dresses and graceful moves!
I've heard and seen this song performed so many times.... I never thought it could ever be done so brilliantly .So beautiful you girls are, and ever so touching and amazing is the way you portray this song. I am forever moved... God bless your beauty and your voices, you are so loved......and so missed.
My life feels more complete to see and hear this wonderfully talented group do so much more than I ever knew they did. Why were they kept away from the main scene here in America?? If just for their performances I am thankful for the internet and those who appreciate their talent and heartfelt presence onstage to provide these videos I would never have known about.
I've never heard this version only Donna Summers but this is certainly worth the listen the harmonies are gorgeous as are the girls and the choreography so old school and soulful.
