So on the Unicorn site they also sell a biodegradable bag that is almost half the price. What is the difference between that and a normal gusseted bag? Will the biodegradable one hold up under high temps?
I've not used the Bio bags. from what i've read they're good quality and work fine, the bad side is their shelf life is quite short > 12 months I think which is fine if you cycle through them quick. The BIo bags work the exact same but break down in the presence of UV and O2 I believe which is why they arrived vacuum sealed I think.
I got like 100 cheap chinese bags for 0.04 dollar each (something like that, really cheap) for now ill try them out and see, for the price if some works it would be okay, they are quite small but its just for spawn
@@WedgeKahr well yeah but i dont think that example is good here because all the bags have worked good for mushroom spawn and i cant see how a more expensive bag would be better when it comes to mushroom bags..
@@oNorw "I can't see how a more expensive hooker with regular testing would lower my likelihood for accidentally growing unwanted microbes" I'm half taking the piss and half serious. If it works for you, it works for you, but go to literally any forum and you'll see nothing but people who've had bad experiences. China has no QC because they don't need it, their mushroom industry is built on the backs of figurative slaves working for pennies a day. Who cares if they have to do extra work? Dunno about you, but my time is too valuable to gamble on thehope of saving a few cents. Material costs are nothing compared to labor costs
@@WedgeKahr i have done about 8 different batches without any contam and i dont think a expensive bag would make it grow faster so i see no benefits of using an expensive bag. I get it if its something else like a hooker or a car etc but for now there does not seem to be anything different between expensive bags and cheap ones Probably the micron count on the bags right? But i have had no contam so i cant see a lower micron count filter would make a difference for me when i have not gotten any contam And several of the batches have already been moved to tubs and are done growing without any problems in the later stages
@@oNorw yes, the microns. China has no quality control and no return policy. 8 runs is pretty good, but see how they hold up once you're going through a few thousand bags a month and then get back to me. I used the hooker example because it actually fits really well: just because THIS cheap hooker was clean doesn't mean they're all clean. By all means, keep using ccp bags if that's what you're into. But I think you'll find the savings are far outweighed by the extra work you'll be doing once you scale up and a case of duds shuts down your entire operation for weeks. There's a reason this guy says to avoid them, and why you'll almost never see experienced growers using them. Might as well use jars for the amount of extra work you'll be doing at scale
hii, i couldn't really understand what is the difference between spawn and substrate, you dont just innoculate substrate in the bag and than spawn out of it?
Hi mate! Spawn is mycelium on grain or some other kind of starter grain. This is to give the mycelium a greater surface area and nutritional boost before you inoculate a substrate with it!
