Consider grommets. They press together, and can even place a small O ring between them. They provide a hole and surface that RTV silicone can adhere to effectively. They wouldn't be reusable but likely cheaper and faster to apply.

I won't say I've been doing this for years But I've done it a dozen times with no issues: I just dabbed some RTV on my bags (no sanding) and covered it in clear packing tape and let it dry (longer then 24 hours tho; without air it seems to dry slower) So far so good...

That's a great option too! You can just put RTV direct onto the filter patch, it adheres better there!

I just put a blob of silicone on the bag after I remove from PC only had it fall off once out of a lot of bags.

I just put rtv onto the micropore tape. I do it after I’ve sterilised the bags.

Works well! Or you can just put RTV onto the filter patch directly!

What kind of nut and bolt is that? It's a great idea. Do you reuse them?

Hi mate sorry for the late reply. They're called pottery nipples if you google them you will find them with an attachable hex nut. Absolutely matey. Completely reusable.

@@ArchersMushrooms I think people outside the UK will have more luck searching for "cable gland". Not exactly the same(but almost). It seems like that kind of bushing have gone out of style and been replaced by a different kind that locks the cable in place and are not fit for this purpose.

@@Halaster If you snip off the "wire end", you get a very nice bushing with a flat side that should not puncture other bags when they rub together.

This is excellent, reusable autoclavable bags. How do you make the filter mesh adhered to the bag? I'm thinking to use foodsaver's turkey bags are huge.

Brilliant !! does the soapy liquid you used to smooth out the sealer need to be washed after the sealer dries ?

You can do mate! It'll wash off during the sterilisation cycle though!

Do you personalty think it’s worth it to buy the silicon, or should I stick with injecting through double layered micro pore tape? And also do you think after injecting through micropore tape, regular tape over the hole would help? Thanks for great video incredible help

To make it easier, you can dab some silicone onto the corner of a filter patch and inject through there! just be careful you don't 'sew' or pierce the bag as you move to the grain! Regular tape does trap moisture so if shes not 100% dry and clean you do risk encouraging bacterial growth!

I just mark the bag and go straight through the bag plastic and then cover with packing tape. Seems to work for me and the bags hold up through vigorous shaking throughout the colonization phase.

@@barrielatter6960 but can you reuse the bags after? I mean if how do you sterilize the next batch? with the tape on them? and if not isnt the hole a contamination risk? and the more you use it the more holes it will get...

Tape is problematic. If you don't have a self healing injection port you should either innoculate before you seal the bag in front of a flow hood, or if you don't have one just seal up the hole with hot glue.

They are mate! So you sterilise them along with your grains!

@@ArchersMushrooms Have you tested to autoclave the ports at 121 C for 15 mins? I can hardly find in Europe some plastic ports that resist at over 100 degrees and are cheap.
