The Three Passes Trek in Nepal: Episode 1-Flying into Lukla Airport

The Three Passes Trek is in Nepal absolutely stunning. The Himalayan vistas are breathtaking, the people are incredibly friendly and the Dal Bhat is tasty. This trek takes you over 3 high passes; Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La, all over 5,000 meters (16k feet). A little swing to Everest Base Camp is frosting on the cake. I did this trek in mid-November to early December, there's no snowstorms at this time, but it's a little chilly at night. In this episode, I travel from my hometown of Boulder, Colorado to Namche bazaar. Highlights include the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, and the first leg of the trek to Namche Bazar.

I'm going to Nepal in December and probably going to Everest Base Camp. It will be my first hike, so this vids are great for preparation! One (beginner) question: did you have 1 set of clothing for the entire trip and did you wash them on the way? Or did you have more of the same clothes? Or didn't you wash them at all during the trip? I don't want to pack too many stuff for my tip, but also not too less ;)

@duzer
@duzer 5 лет назад
Robert S. Howdy Robert. My flights from Denver to Kathmandu we’re 1k. Flight to Lukla was 150. The hotels cost almost nothing, like 2-3 dollars a night. Meals are about 2-5 dollars. Gear can be pricey depending on the brand, but to me, it’s worth having good gear. You could buy all your gear in Nepal and save some money. Thanks for watching!

From watching the videos, this is what I came up with but I'm not sure. Would greatly appreciate if you can verify it. Day 1: Lukla - Namche Bazaar Day 2: Namche Bazaar rest day Day 3: Namche Bazaar - Tengboche Day 4: Tengboche - Dingboche Day 5: Dingboche - Chukhung Day 6: Chukhung - Lobuche (via Kongma La pass) Day 7: Lobuche - Gorak Shep (visited EBC) Day 8: Gorak Shep (visited Kala Patthar) Day 9: Gorak Shep - Dzonglha Day 10: Dzonglha - Gokyo (via Cho La Pass) Day 11: Gokyo - rest day (visited Gokyo Ri) Day 12: Gokyo - Thame (via Renjo La pass) Day 13: Thame - Namche Day 14: Namche - Lukla

What are those mules lugging--I bet they are doing the labor for tourists. I have mix feeling about mountain challenges, such activities have polluted and the mountains and certain aspects of the location's serenity. I have friend who climbed Mt. Everett--who cares--try world peace if you want a real challenge. Why do they call it a challenge--what are humans always *challenging* nature or each other! Challenge your own life--many have tried all their lives yet failed in the end. I'm going to challenge that rock by climbing it--hey, what about climbing a grizzly bear--that's a *challenge* but I don't these mountain climber flocking to do that. Visiting a place to appreciate and respect its free beauty projects a different inner mind set than challenging it. Thanks for the tag along.

I think if they quoted me $2 for hotel room I would insist on paying at least $50. Paying $2 is an example of exploiting their lack of worldliness imo.
