I felt uncomfortable after hearing Marc Summers saying, "fuck"

For those of you judging the 5 min of television you saw, you need to remember the previous part you don’t see. When Jay was interviewing Burt, he had some fairly stiff jokes about his very recent divorce, and that was why old Burt was mad. I think Marc Summers came out and was just trying to survive...so he started in on what was already infuriating Burt. I remember watching this when I was like 15 with my parents, it was epic at the time.

Hilarious that Burt stopped him when he tried to throw water back on him with no effort and then just said “you’re not a neat freak anymore”

At the beginning of the interview, Burt saw Marc as an easy target, a wimp. By the end of the interview, Burt respected Marc.

They didn't even show the part where Leno's producers brought out pies and Marc & Burt did a duel-style back-to-back before pieing each other in the face - and it looked like Burt put all his rage into his pie throw!

That's what they call "great television"! And they never invited him back??

Marc had it coming. I love them both but it was part of Burt’s humor to make awkward comments on the Tonight show. Burt even cut Jay’s tie for a divorce joke and all Marc got was water in the lap. Plus, you don’t bring up someone’s humiliating divorce unless they start it. Marc kinda instigated it by bringing a gun to a knife fight. The real sissy is Jay because he wouldn’t stop making fun of Burt’s divorce and when Burt finally lost it, Jay literally ran into the corner away from the two

It really was pretty low to poke fun of the divorce. That can be a deeply painful time.

Hearing Marc Summers drop an f-bomb here has really made me rethink a few things

I only know Mr. Summers from my childhood TV show, _Double Dare._ That's all I know about him. But I was familiar with Burt Reynolds' douchebaggery. He truly assaulted a reporter on camera and giggled in the 1990s if I correctly recall.

Burt was going through a very public and very messy divorce at the time, and fighting over custody of his kid. That comment by Mark was especially cruel. Neither of these guys is right, but Marc embarrassed and provoked Burt, kicking him while he was down

Guys why are y’all hating on burt he was defending himself he felt like it was needed and it was Marc was saying really rude like things and also Burt handled it very well and the part he didn’t show was Burt hugging him in the end also it doesn’t get worse they are making it sound like he hit him like that’s not assault. All respect for Burt to doing the right thing❤

I grew watching Summers on Nickelodeon being very wholesome and kid-friendly. So it was kinda strange to hear him say the F word. Obviously he can say whatever he wants. But I still remember him as the “Danny Tanner” of tv show hosts.

I had to return to this video after Burt Reynolds passing, I don't know exactly what happened but I'm on Marc's side. After i saw this for the first time i never thought of reynolds the same again. Rip Burt

I actually think that maybe Marc was trying to tell it with a little sympathy, stating that Burt was going through a rough divorce at the time, and this interviewer cut him off to sensationalize everything. Neither Marc nor Burt were behaving awesomely (or Jay), but I'd like to think that Marc has seen his complicity in this 20+ years later.

It does seem like it was all burt Reynolds fault. But honestly mark did say I still have a wife or I'm still married. Bert was going through a divorce at the time. He did ever react but Mark shouldn't probably said that

Plus Leno (obnoxious as ever) had already been needling Burt about his very ugly & costly divorce from Loni Anderson. It's not nice, but calling that assault cheapens the actual meaning of the word.

If you watch the whole segment, it seems that Mark used Burt's divorce to attempt to cut him down and upstage Burt. Not a smart move at all. Mark's 5 minutes of fame, on behalf of Burt. Reynolds had 60 yrs.

No one fucks with Burt

As a 90s kid who watched all the shows Summers hosted, it feels dirty to watch him say things like "I hated that show" lmao. Because we all knew Marc and he was just the nice white guy funny game show host. So friendly and fun. But then I would go back and watch Double Dare and "What Would You Do?" episodes through the eyes of an adult, and now you realize how many times Summers would get smart, or smarmy, or short, or uppity when he spoke to the kid contestants LMFAO!!!!! It's so f'ing funny to rediscover and watch it as if it were the first time again. We gain emotional intelligence as adults and now we can tell how impatient he is with the kids. God forbid one of the kids are confused by the rules and they ask him a clarifying question as they film the show, and he starts answering them with questions in a very sarcastic tone lmao. Poor kids. I wonder if it ever hit any of those kids who competed that he was being rude to them lmao

I think Burt saw him as some kind of creepy child groomer talking about covering them in beans/whipped cream etc which is fair enough, what kind of show feels the need to do that stuff? just so they can regularly excuse getting the kids out of those wet clothes etc? Yeah Burt was right to diss that freaky sh*t and Marc might have picked up on it then got super defensive knowing where it was going and made the bitchy divorce comment.
