Growing up I always loved the second through fourth doctors, but Hartnell grew on me slowly over the years. He had some iffy episodes and some are lost entirely, but he’s in fine form here!
One of my favourite Hartnell stories. "Go away! I'll come out when I'm ready!" Love that moment even though Hartnell wasn't actually there. His line was pre-recorded as he was on holiday during recording on Episode 2. Also love his facial expression in Episode 4 when he says "He won't listen, he's determined to have his own way. He's got to be stopped. He must be stopped!"
He returned in "The Daleks' Master Plan", again played by Peter Butterworth, though only for 3 of the 12 parts. Whether he'll ever return in a regenerated form or not, it's hard to say. Same goes for the Rani.
First time we saw another Gallifreyan other than the Doctor and Susan! (if i remember rightly, in the Virgin books New Adventures, the Monk's first name was revealed to be Mortimer!) 🤔
One of the best stories. The companions have plenty to do advancing the plot, just like the modern stories, because William Hartnell took a holiday (the Monk keeps him locked in a cell so he doesn't have to appear and Bill recorded a few lines so we can hear him in there complaining about his breakfast). i imagine that when the 12th incarnation of Doctor Who said "Oh no, NOT VIKINGS, I'm not in the mood for Vikings" he was remembering this adventure....
Wow this is from 1963 and he already looks old in here. Does this man even age? :o I mean I knew Walder Frey is like the oldest living person, having grand grand grand grandchildren and stuff but this is ridiculous!
I've always really liked the First Doctor after reading the Target novelizations when I was a little kid, but tbh I don't think The Time Meddler is one of his best stories.
The Doctor does mention that the Monk is from the same place as him (i.e. Gallifrey, though it hadn't been named in the show yet; neither had the Time Lords). The Monk did manage to fix his TARDIS, and returned in _The Dalek's Master Plan_ the following year. He hasn't been seen again since.
@@TheMoonRoverBig Finish at least gave us three new incarnations of the Meddling Monk, though neither the Monk or the audience knows their chronology, as they’ve meddled with time so much that it’s warped their own timeline.
Rufus Hound and Gemma Whelan are pretty great in the audios, so I’d love to see either one of those incarnations show up in the tv series. But if we had to have a new actor, then Matt Berry would be my prime choice.
No, this episode is part of the Whoniverse collection where past companions and Doctors are reunited on a "Memory TARDIS" and talk about their experiences with the Doctor and we see an episode. The actors who played Vicki and Steven appeared in it and talked about where their lives went after they left the Doctor.
