THE TITANS - GREEK GODS BEFORE THE OLYMPIANS The Titans were the second generation of gods of the Greek Pantheon and the forebears of the Olympians you know, Zeus Apollo, Athena etc. They were led by Chronos, the tyrant god of Time. Very little is actually known about the Titans, as they were more a footnote to the gods of Greek Mythology, an explanation of the genesis of the gods. Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them. This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience. All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos. There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries. These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays. Love these. I'm in the process of making something in the same vein as this. However, I have talking bronze owls of Athena reciting libervox mp3 files. Yours are magnificent.
Utterly beautiful, both of you. I haven’t seen the Titans portrayed so humanly before. Usually they are monsters for the Olympians to overcome. I was really impressed by this. Bravo to both of you, bravo!
I never knew there were so many other mythological beings in Greek mythology. Other than the Olympians and the titans that you hear about in the popular stories. Thank you for enlightening me.
Love the different approach Lightbringer and Papa Bald are bringing to these. Making the epic personal never fails. Long may this channel transport me into legend.
Very beautifully narrated once more, love how Lightbringer and Baldermort are doing this in tandem , it works so well! Loved this, both informative and very relaxing!
Fantastic narration. The narrative and voice acting. Absolutely perfect. It is like the blanket in the cold. It is like the fire in the freeze. It is like the water in the desert. Perfect.
When the Greek gods are complete, perhaps the gods of the British isles, and then the Germanic gods after them? You would do such an amazingly good job on any mythology, though, so I will be happy with whatever you provide to us.
I enjoy these videos, so glad I stumbled across this channel! You do the reading for each character so amazingly bringing life to each individual! I love Greek mythology and this enhances the stories! Choosing Oceanus and Tethis to introduce the Titans was a great idea as they are the most non bias characters! Thanks for bringing these stories to life in an amazing new way!
LOVING BOTH OF THESE NEW CHANNELS MY GOOD UNCLE.. YOU ARE FOREVER IN MY LIKE AND SHARE ROUTINE! AND THEY ARE BOTH BEAUTIFULLY DONE! GIVE MY PRAISE TO MRS. B AND THE DAUGHTER FORMERLY KNOWN AS GOBLIN. CHEERS!!
Epimetheus... that was me when i repeated in my mind the mistakes of some shameful times to me... valuable insight... & valuable lessons, both of mythology & life... i simply love it ❤
Love the style and what you guys are bringing to these tales and the way you bring the hiearchy of who's son and daughter of who an their attributions, tying them all together. Can't wait for more! You'll make it to 100k subs in no time!
Arriving late commenting early for the great and fearful algorithm Thanks for the stellar work Uncle and Cousin Baldy Edit: what an elegant way to frame the Titanomachy.
I'm glad you noticed and appreciate it! Campfires are as old as we are, as too are stories. Tales connect us all to our pasts, our ancestors, and each other. - Lightbringer
Fantastic content as usual.. Already the best mythology channel out there! Can't wait for the next. Quick correction though.. Cronus leader of the titans is different from Chronos titan god of time. Not the same at all
Alas, you are overcomplicating a situation that has more than enough nuances. None of the differing histories, poetic tracts or studies totally agree. If its good enough for Cicero, its good enough for us. We are aware of the variations and have made decisions that make a cohesive narrative. As they should. Its light entertainment. Best to treat it that way. If you want an academic thesis, there are a multitude of lectures from universities on line. - Baldermort (which is rare)
I love these videos we need to spread these to all mythos nerds grow yes grow young channel as tho all the fae and the morrigan herself saw it's coming.
Mmm another exquisite narration from Baldermort and Melina-I mean Lightbringer ...say, I can't find Lightbringer's channel because David Lightbringer + LoL Lightbringer are things - anyone got links?
We're glad you're enjoying it as much as we are! You have not found my channel because there is not one yet, but my writing and narration have featured once or twice on Baldermort's Guide to Warhammer. And there will be plenty more to hear from this channel, so I do hope you stick with us and enjoy the journey! -Lightbringer
@@livingmythology1405 oof Well, I can foresee your subscriptions exploding the moment you announce your channel - especially with Elden Ring fans. Good luck, and may Quantum TV + the demonetization stay away from you
I don't mean to be rude, but I'm pretty sure that the Titan, Kronos is a god of Harvest, not time. I do know that is a greek god named Chronus, who is a god of time but I've always thought they were different gods despite having similar names. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Cronus, Cronos, or Kronos whatever you want to call him as he went by many of name to the Greeks had harvest aspects tied to him but he was also the Titian of time. According to Plutarch, the Greeks believed that Cronos Kronos, and Cronus was an allegorical name for Chronos/chronus.
@@rb.5940 Huh, no and yes. I recently learned that, for a significant part of Greek history, Cronus was occasionally interpreted as Chronos. The usage of either name depended on context: Kronos/Cronus was seen as the god of the harvest and time, while Chronos was the personification of time that Kronos governs. Although there are times when they are not used interchangeably, their usage fluctuated throughout the history of Ancient Greece and into the Roman era. At times, Chronos was considered what we know as Father Time, while at other times, he was seen as an aspect of Kronos, like two sides of the same coin-one side governing time and the other harvest, yet both parts of the same entity. Thus, it varies based on the historical context.
12:20 Okay, so this fanfic's alt-Angron is only 'minus the Spartacus copypasta narrative', but remixing Vulcan by adding in a dollop of Vashtorr is pretty funky. Looking forward to seeing where that one goes. As a side rant, I HOPE Alt-Angron gets his due development and attention in this one. I don't know if it was BL, the authors, or both, but Angron's potential contribution to the lore was kind of emasculated in canon. Of course, my version of this takes Baldermort's vision of a planned post-Great-Crusade liquidation of the Mechanicum and runs with it. Basically, de-feudalizing & emancipation of the serfs was next after that, followed then by a final de-slaving. So Angron hears this plan from Emps and is like, "I'm guessing that in all your millennia, you were never enslaved like I was." Boom, there's your conflict, so they get to write a version of the Third Servile War that ends VERY differently.
The one throughline that I have notice about Greek mythology, is that they are so very spiteful. Curious, I wonder how long it took for these beings to learn from their history before they finally finished killing each other.
Because we cannot release a video every day, or even week at the moment, youtube does not push our videos. Also, they are not for everyone. So those who do watch or listen are very happy, we like to think. But youtube does not want to put us in front of people, in case they turn off the app. Its deeply disappointing. But it is what it is. We hold out hopes that one day we may gain some traction and more might enjoy them. So, if you ever wanted to help out? Just share the videos a few places maybe? Inevitably, if we don;t grow at some point, the project will have to end. So if you enjoy what we do, please do share them about. We don;t want to stop. We want to get much better, but everything we do takes time. So we need to be able to pay our bills too. We hope it takes off. We really do. :) - Baldermort
I think she did great 👍. But she reads like you . When she can nail geladrial from the peter Jackson films. I believe she cam sound just like the intro on the films
Wtf you don't even explain the story correctly. You make Cronus out to be an asshole and don't even mention the hecatoncheires or why he even actually castrated his father.
There's a video on the Cyclopes and Hecatoncheires But I am curious as to why you think we got it so wrong! I'm sorry you didn't like our tale, may I ask what the correct version is then? - Lightbringer
@@livingmythology1405 well alot of the tellings of the story ( yours included ) make Cronus out to be the villain, they dont mention how much of an asshole tyrant Uranus was. The reason Cronus castrated him was because of how horribly Uranus was treating his brothers, it wasnt simply because he was jealous or something. Uranus imprisoned Cronus brothers in a dungeon where they were tormented and suffered all because they were "ugly". Gaia is the one that was trying to help them but none of the other titans would do it because they didnt want to lose the power they had and feared they would if they overthrew there father. Cronus was the only one that knew it was wrong and wanted to do something about it.
I understand your perspective - but If you look at the 'Greek Primordials' video, that explains the trapping of the cyclopes and the hecatoncheires and that Uranus was a cruel father and ruler. We highlight that Cronos was once a liberator of a tyrant, but he didn't let the cyclopes and Hecatoncheires out of Tartarus when he ascended to power. This shows he became like his tyrant father - so we do agree partially! If there are sources that say Cronos freed the titans I would be more understanding though! - Lightbringer
