It's also a good middle ground when your computer or games don't run well enough to play proper vr. Because it isn't strapped to your face having less than perfect frames isn't deadly 👍
If you're not a VR user, then this probably can seem like it's better than VR, however for a VR gamer there's no way this is better than VR. As an avid VR user myself, It's not even comparable imo.
@@vonklinkenhoffn1 my man he said it was almost better than VR all right he wasn’t saying that it was. I think you jumped up on your horse a little bit too quick all right is a complete different animal. We all know it some people like it. Some people hate it with Toby. It just follows your eyes and does crap. That’s what it does and it works especially in games all right so relax give your horse a carrot put him in the stall relax
I have it paired with a 49" Samsung G9 OLED. Its better than VR for me as I can't stand having something strapped to my face and this gives 95% of the immersion
@@antoniovinciguerra8982 I bought a articulating camera arm and epoxied the metal mounting strip to it and then attached it to my monitor stand with the clamp
I would like to add that if you are using a laptop you can still use the Tobii eye tracker, you will have to take the eye tracker off to close your computer but the magnetic mount is able to stay on and doesn't interfere with closing your laptop.
Thinkin about getting a Tobii when you already own a VR headset might seem like a downgrade to immersion, that was atleast my thought until i tried it. Biggest + is that you dont have to strap anything to your head, you get tons of immersion from the Tobii with the correct settings. If i could chose (i mean, i can) between VR or Tobii for games like Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Flight Sim, etc. I will go Tobii every time!
I love the tobii eye tracker but nothing will compare to the feeling of motion controls as I use a multi tool, interact with my ship, or reload my weapon. That’s the experience I’m looking forward to
finally got one and just for SC alone it is crazy. I wish VR was popular but we definitely better VR tech first. This on my new monitor is so incredible.
You should check out Grass Monkey Simulations solution. Also, how is gaming on Linux? Do you use a certain distro? Thinking about making the switch to Linux finally.
Would love to see the the face creation tool with Tobi. Looked for information online but couldn't find anything about the face creation tool. I think with the 20% off i'm finally going to pull the trigger on purchasing a Tobi ET5. One question: Does TET5 work for mouth tracking when you talk?
So I've had one for a few years now , one of the things I love most about it is windows showing the log on screen for a split second while as it's already captured my face to log in , same with making payments on websites. In games like star citizen it offers a range of new immersion and features like missile lock on whoever I'm looking at , even funny things like rotating my head like a dog and people saying ,how TF you do that XD , In all honesty I don't *use* it much but that's because I don't have to actively have to do anything , I forget it there at times , it's a sort of invisible technology that just works and its got to the point where I forget I even have it until the rare times it does something I don't want. One of the best game uses out of Star citizen is the feature some games have where if you ads it automatically snaps you to what you was looking at , 1 tiny downside .. if you use a vr headset like the oculus with inside out tracking .. make sure you disable tobii as the IR will look like strobe lights to your vr headset and tracking won't work , super simple toggle in the taskbar
I had a tobii eyetracker in my Alienware laptop many years ago. I kinda liked it, but it didn't work as well because of the smaller screen. I'd buy one for my current setup if the prices weren't so absurd here in Brazil.
I bought one second hand a few weeks ago from a guy who had spent 50k on SC and was now bailing out of the game. I haven’t changed any settings yet so this video is a plus for me as my head range of motion seems to be a bit too twitchy. Such a great piece of kit though. Makes landings at stations way less tricky in my Vulture or C2 etc
Most important part is having a bigscreen, and AR glasses like Xreal and Viture are making this possible to have huge virtual screens and lock them in place. A lot cheaper than bigscreens, and easy on the go too for movie watching and ofc work space wherewver you go.
Excellent overview, and I agree if you figure in the cost of the VR gear, needing a better PC, the Tobii is not cheap but a better value than VR. VR for me will need to be at a stage where it's a not to heavy ski goggle size device and more games for it.
I still very much would like a Tobii Eyetracker 5 to use with Star Citizen but right now, especially with CIG missing delays _again_ ... I'm putting it on hold. Also, even with their frequent discounts, it's still pretty expensive and I really need Star Citizen to be further along before I make any more significant purchases.
I know right...was really close to buying joysticks for that game but i am glad i didnt. The game looks good and all but to be worthy for buying hardware just for that game, it has to improve a lot more.
Prices are ridiculous, purchased a Leap Motion years ago for a fraction of what their asking. 35 Euros for a tripod mount? Hell, you can 3D print one in 5 minutes. Unless prices come down, not interested.
What about "Beam Eye Tracker" with a webcam? Even with the 20% off the Tobii seems a bit pricy, it would be nice to see a side-by-side comparison of the two.
I bought a articulating camera arm and epoxied the metal mounting strip to it and then attached it to my monitor stand with the clamp . there was no way to stick it to my curved monitor
the reason I haven't bought a tobii 5 is that they don't tell what comes in the box. Somewhere I read that one has to buy the Monitor mount seperately, their website isn't clear if that's the case. Your review suggests it's included. So can someons concretely tell ne what the eyetracker comes with?
For casual players, YES its worth it. But if you have more tech knowledge and love gaming. Then theres no substitute for VR. As soon as SC introduces VR I'll be switching to my meta 3 & selling my tobii. I used my VR for sim racing, DCS and war thunder.
@@jakeramp1 I don’t get much lag on my 4080, i7 system other than some server lag. Once they get server lag fixed and what they promised for 4.0 update, it’ll be a really fun game. Dog fighting already gets my adrenaline pumping
gotta disagree. Tobii with a large curved monitor give nearly the same experience and you can still see your controls and peripherals like game glass and additional monitors. And you don't have a device strapped to your face
Careful if you play in like a sim rig setup. I play on a 75" gaming tv, and i sit further back then most. Tried really hard to get it to work properly and went back to track ir. Love it on my more conventional pc setup tho.
In terms of Star citizen I find it pretty lack luster compared to track IR 5 it only works well in ideal conditions and even then has some limitations. Sure track IR requires something on your head and the stock clips aren't that good in that regard but you can get custom made battery powered clips to remove the wires and have a firmer track. Customization also way better. The eye tracking isn't super useful especially if you aren't running with optimal settings because the accuracy will be way off. The stick on mount doesn't last very long especially in hot weather.
Check out Grass Monkey Simulations. Like a TrackIR head tracking solution but higher frame rate, larger tracking space, and it's made by a small business (and cheaper).
This has to have been a sponsored video. There’s no way u believe it better. A good substitute for those who get sick or don’t like the hmd on their face maybe but BETTER in general no way
the fact that you can't download the tobii drivers from tobii but have to go through the awful experience that is the windows store is the only downside or reason not to have one
i got the tobii and tracked much much worse than my homemade tracker made of 3 ir sensors, coat hangers and tape. Later I got a trackIR which tracked even better. I personally cant recommend the Tobii and I am surprised to see so many Content creators recommend it.
I can tell you have NEVER played with a quality VR headset because of you have that statement would NEVER have even been uttered Head trackers/eye trackers are not even in the same league
