This is a very RARE and Interesting Interview of Kate Jackson right before Making Love hit the Big Screen. She looks absolutely beautiful in this one.

Kate Jackson was utterly convincing in 'Making Love', but then again, she always was terrific in everything!! She had such range!! No wonder, she had that amazing screen presence. A combination of intensity, fortitude, beauty, intelligence and sex appeal. Her portrayal as "Claire" in "MAKING LOVE" was absolutely stunning....just an incredible sense of genuine "reality" with regards to her performance. We love you, Kate!

Kate Jackson is a terrific actress! Always!! In "Making Love" her acting was so subtle yet powerful and utterly heartbreaking. And so different from Charlie's Angels iconic Sabrina Duncan. A favorite role of mine. Loved her as Sabrina Duncan. She had range in that role. And loved her in "Making Love"! Talented, friendly and always gorgeous! Kate, you are the best

Ontkean and Jackson were on "The Rookies" together only to reunite with each other in the film in question, "Making Love". 40 years later still controversial. You would think Hollywood and the mainstream media would see this as nothing compared to 2022.

OMG thank you for this. Kate the Great Jackson will always be the BEST angel there ever was. She took the show and it's feminist statement the most seriously and knew how to make even the stupidest of season 3 episodes work. She is so beautiful, inside and out. We need to see more of these interviews that show what a genuine soul she is. Bravo, and thanks again!

OMG I was just turning 18 in Feb of 1982, and not officially coming out as a young gay male, but 2 of my best gay friends who turned 18 in Jan. of '82, well we all 3 just had to see this movie. We loved it. It was sort of coming of age story for us, we still talk about it to this day. Ohh yeaa Harry Hamlin wasn't bad to look at either.

But this is the oddest interview. They barely mention the film, as if they are skirting round the issue. They show a clip, but not where the guy comes out - the most important bit, surely. They mention homosexuality ironically/apologetically, but they don't address the main issue of the film. It's like as if this interview is from the 1950s where people could barely mention the word homosexuality. Mind you, the interview does make a good point about the audience member from Utah!!

When did Kate dismiss the film and/or say it was the catalyst for the demise of her career? Esp since not long after the film she began the smash hit TV series "Scarecrow & Mrs. King". Kate was not a film star before or after M.L., she was & is primarily a TV actress. As for M.L. itself- I always wanted to see more emotion from Claire. More anger. More confusion. Just...MORE. It remains a classic amongst gay films. Michael Ontkean HAS dismissed it BTW. Harry Hamlin loves his gay fans.

Right - just goes to show how much we've (thankfully) changed as a people. The film itself, in all of what you pointed out, was mishandled. They should have made a bigger deal about it's subject matter, but this is corporate America, and Homosexuality would NOT make the buck in those days. Now it's all the rage. Go figure...Kate really shines though. It's a shame too, that she is apparently ashamed of the film now, and blames it for the demise of her career.

We may have discussed this before and I'll say it again: The constant badmouthing about Kate Jackson is upsetting. Just because she wanted to improve a show she had invented. Those men felt threatened by a strong woman who dared to stand up to them and who said no, when they wanted to put her in skimpy clothes. It was (lousy) writer Ed Lakso who said in a documentary that Kate "tended to be bully". He said that because he couldn't cope with an assertive woman like Kate who wanted better scripts (she was right!). He favored Cheryl above the rest of the Charlie's Angels cast, and made her the center of attention by writing episodes revolving around Kris Munroe. And here's why: Lakso maintained a covert dalliance with Ladd for most of the duration of CA!

Kate Jackson was so annoying in 'Making Love', but then again, she was grating in everything… No wonder her nickname on the Charlie's Angels set was "Hate Jackson".
@19CALI_sunnyv
@19CALI_sunnyv 3 года назад
Silly comment. Kate the great Jackson was brilliant in "Making Love" and in everything of course! And she made the show on Charlie's Angels! She was the best actress, co-created the show and yes, dared to stand up to the executives because she wanted to better the show. Of course the 70's macho creeps hated her for that and started to call her names and the rag sheets spread the bs gossip. Well, it served those idiots right ha! After Kate left the show went downhill BIG TIME. Those haters should have treated their real star with more respect. They didn't... Too late! And that was the end of Charlie's Angels.
@DDumbrille
@DDumbrille 3 года назад
@@19CALI_sunnyv Brilliant. Haha, thanks. That was funny as was the rest of your laughable analysis. Jackson didn't "leave" the show, she was dropped from it because she was constantly complaining. She was never the star, their 'real star' -- that's also hilarious. But enjoy your delusions...
@19CALI_sunnyv
@19CALI_sunnyv 3 года назад
@@DDumbrille I get it, Doug. You hate Kate Jackson in your own special way. And you find that very amusing. You’re so cute. Since you don’t care to find the facts yourself I’ll provide them for you: The fact that Kate Jackson landed that role on "Kramer vs Kramer" because director Robert Benton had seen her on „Charlie’s Angels“ speaks volumes about her acting skills and charisma! The "Kramer" team wanted "somebody who has an enormous presence and skill“. Robert Benton: "In the spring of 1978, we had meetings with Kate Jackson [to play Joanna Kramer]. She was terrific, but the network began throwing up obstacles because of their scheduling for Charlie's Angels. We said, "Sooner or later, they are going to make it impossible.“ Which is exactly what the CA producers Spelling and Goldberg did… Anyway, after three years Kate told the producers „I quit“ and they said „You can’t quit you’re fired“. They were so desperate LOL. Without Kate Jackson this show turned into a parody with some ridiculous replacements that didn’t work at all! These are the facts. Your delusions won’t turn into truth no matter how hard you try. Good luck with that.
@DDumbrille
@DDumbrille 3 года назад
@@19CALI_sunnyv Again, thanks for the laughs PST19CC, is that you Kate? What you're relaying is that Benton wanted Jackson. Okay, I'll buy that. But because she was already employed and UNDER CONTRACT, doesn't equate to 'throwing up obstacles'. Regardless of what happened back then, if Jackson was such a great actress, why didn't she have the career of the woman who replaced her? Or even 1/10th of that career?
@19CALI_sunnyv
@19CALI_sunnyv 3 года назад
@@DDumbrille That’s right, Benton wanted Kate Jackson. The Kramer vs. Kramer people were very willing to be accommodating to Kate's Charlie’s Angels schedule. Kate was willing to fly to NYC on weekends to do the movie and work on CA during the week. There were negotiations and just when things seemed to work out Spelling/Goldberg threw up more obstacles. They didn’t want Kate to become a movie star because they were afraid she would leave CA… when Kate did leave Aaron Spelling said: ""We just kind of threw up our hands and said oh hell what next?!“ The show went south that’s what was in store for them. They blew it. Unlike today, the 70’s and 80’s were a time when it was nearly impossible for TV actors to make the transition from television to feature films. They were either TV or movie stars. So K vs. K was the chance of a lifetime and it got sabotaged by the CA producers. As for Streep. She won her first Oscar for K vs K. Wouldn’t have happened if it had been Jackson’s part who may or may not have won an Oscar but Streep would not have that Award without that role. And without that first Oscar under her belt she very likely wouldn’t have landed the part in Sophie’s Choice because competition over that role was tough and an Oscar did help. So there would be no second Academy Award for Streep either. Streep may or may not have had some big roles but K vs. K opened doors for Streep that would otherwise not have opened. And that’s why that role would have been so crucial to Kate! It would have led to other roles. Not necessarily the same roles Streep had but other good movie roles.
