This is great and a bit bizarre in a way, because it really IS going back in a time machine to see this. I remember this very well. My brother and I were staying way past our bedtime but we'd somehow manage to keep the tv set turned down low enough so our folks didn't hear it. We've often talked about this episode and especially the one where Don was guest hosting- there was a part where Don was going into commercial and just before the screen faded to black, you saw Don doing some kind of step and he fell on the floor! I don't know if it was legit or if he was just playing for the crowd, but we were HOWLING with laughter because it was just so unexpected! Thanks for all the work you do here!

You're welcome! That's a good story, and I remember days like that: either wheeling and dealing to stay up to watch a show or sneaking it. As I look back on these episodes, there's no way they figured anyone would care to be watching these 46 years later...if they only knew!

It's interesting that he was talking about dogs feeling love. They have done hormone studies that show dogs release oxytocin when they greet their masters. Oxytocin is called the love hormone.

I just grew up with 6 siblings but my cousins lived 2 houses from us. They had a dog and the 2 little boys that lived between us had 2 little goats. So because I was older than these other kids I babysat not only my cousins but also the boys next door and got to "play" with the animals. The guy I married had a little red cocker spaniel named Sparkle and a horse called Midway. Needless to say, our 2 sons and our daughter grew up with animals from birth. And now that I am 85 and have a Great-great granddaughter from1 great grandkid and several grandkids they all know about dogs and cats and how to treat them from birth.

And as he should have been, because I would have been really pissed off too !!!! Don Rickles is a real A$$ Hole and has NO Respect for Anybody Elses Property. I HOPE WHAT JOHNNY CARSON DID, TEACHES THAT A- HOLE RICKLES AN OBJECT LESSON. THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND A JOY TO WATCH JOHNNY TELL DON OFF IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS FOR DESTROYING HIS PROPERTY, JUST BECAUSE RICKLES LOUSYJOKE, DIDN'T GO OVER WELL, AND NOBODY LAUGHED.

My mum loved Evening in Paris in the 50’s. I was a child I loved the way she smelled. I used to go to her dressing table and would try it on. Evening in Paris. Conjouered up so many dreams of Paris. As an adult my mum and I went to Paris. Just because of the name of her perfume.

Thanx muchly for sharing this little gem! I miss Johnny. His shows were always interesting and fun, even when the jokes bombed. I saw this one when it was first aired, and Johnny storming the CPO Sharkey set is still hilarious. John Davidson was all over the tv. By the way, After the Lovin' was on the charts, but it was sung by Englebert Humperdinck. Richard Pryor was a joy, as always. Loved him in Silver Streak, and all his movies. I admired his honesty about his life and career. His two tv shows, one for adults, and one for kids, were great. He was so funny and witty Appreciate that you included the original ads. Especially the double-entendre loaded Flick My Bic. Darlene Carr was good on Streets on San Francisco. Streets was a good show anyway. And oh, that film clip. Sam Elliot looks good at any age. The Battle of the Network Stars, Superstars, and Circus of the Stars were pretty good shows. Some of the stars were surprisingly athletic, which made for a interesting show. The critter doctor had some interesting points. But, people should not be surprised that animals have feelings, too. I miss Johnny's Tonite Show. RIP, Johnny and Richard, and thanx so very much, gentle men, for the magic and memories.

My main memory of John Davidson was seeing him as one of the hosts on That's Incredible on ABC when I was a little kid. Cathy Lee Crosby and Fran Tarkenton were the other hosts. I knew Tarkenton from football, I knew Crosby was an actress, but I didn't know Davidson's claim to fame.....until I seen this episode tonight! I never knew he was a younger version of Andy Williams, lol. Pretty cool episode!

I grew up in the era and the one thing I remember about John Davidson was that me and my brother had no idea exactly what he was- a singer who acted or an actor who would also sing? John was one of those people who was famous but to us kids, he seemed to just come out of nowhere! Like all of a sudden, he as all over television. Nice, but like you said, almost in a saccharine way. We didn't dislike him, we just didn't know much about him!

The Left would´ve killed him today for the black jokes. Back then people knew that it was comedy and didn´t took it so damn personal all the time. Those were good times, no doubt and thanks for the upload, I´ve never seen this version of the event.Too bad all of those people are dead now, with the exception of Doc Severensen I think.

Blatantly using the N word or joking about having a cotton gin is unacceptable coming from a white man talking to a black man because, you know, history. Same reason you probably wouldn’t wear a swastika down the street. Or refuse women to vote.

I grew up in those times and I'm trying to remember if I or my folks ever took much offense at those jokes. I don't seem to recall that we did. If ANYONE had a right to take offense, it would have been my folks and their generation, growing up in the South and experiencing those things- but I just don't recall that anyone dwelled on that stuff too much. I think people knew when a joke was done to hurt vs. a joke that was actually exposing the ridiculousness of that stuff through humor. I do think people have gotten a LOT more easily offended- and oddly, it's the generations that came well after my folks.
